The whole RPG thing also happened in the 80's with a South African soldier from 32 battalion... But it was in his chest. He actually survived and was part of the instructors if I remember correctly.

its strong due to necessary reasons , but fragile as a con it has been shown the human body is willing to fight every inch of its own damn life if it had to but if it knows that it might not make it it will prioritize the lives around it if you can't live might aswell try to make sure others survive of course not everyone is as strong hence why leaders [in combat] tend to be carefully chosen they are the ones who care the most about you and are likely to have plenty of energy and shear human will to keep going until the last stand of human body fails, ontop of all of that we also are differently matched from who we come and what region we lived in for most of our lives the reason we make this far is because we have become very flexible over the years

As a teenager I would do yard work for one of my neighbors who was a vet. He'd always tell me stories about when he was in the war, but the most notable ones were the time he got shot through the hand, all the way through his elbow, to taking a mortar to the foot. Had the scars to prove it and all. Moved away and haven't seen him in years, but I've always wondered what he's been up to.. quite the character

If I remember correctly, the first story had a somewhat sad outcome, where I believe the flight crew was reprimanded for disobeying protocols. It's sad because they place their lives in danger each time they do a medevac, and this was more or less no difference of risk to them.
@sleepygryph
@sleepygryph 9 месяцев назад
It is a sad reality that the US military is a bureaucracy and as such is enamored with "The Book". This obsession is so great that a running joke among the NATO allies is that, at a command level, the American military is inflexible and iron bound by doctrine. Those in charge would rather see their men die following "The Book" than survive and even possibly win doing something outside of it's holy rules. Naturally if someone does break a rule and expose their incompetence that individual is crushed ruthlessly by the bureaucracy, lest their actions inspire others.
@Michael-uc2pn

If I got reprimanded for that I'd frame the reprimand and put it on my wall. "What's that?" A memorandum signed by a general officially recognizing my brass balls.

Obama should of stepped in as the commander in Chief and outright awarded all of those heroes the Medal of Honor.
@Tank50us
@Tank50us 9 месяцев назад
@@darthjarjar5309 yeah, that wasn't going to happen. On the subject of the regulations... the messed up thing about them is that breaking them can either end with a medal and a reprimand... or a final ride home in a box. Obviously, the men involved here had some brass balls to do what they did... but as stated repeatedly in the video... one tiny bump could have set that rocket off, and everyone would've been killed.
@Tinil0
@Tinil0 9 месяцев назад
@@Tank50us As much as people criticize the top brass, and they DO have a lot to criticize them for to be fair, a lot of these regulations are in place because the goals on a military level and the goals of an individual level do not always align, such as in that situation. You are risking a LOT of lives to possibly save one. On a human level that's wonderful, but on a strategic level it makes no sense, it's not worth possibly losing 10+ lives and a millions of dollars of materiel to POSSIBLY save an individual. In a case like that I have no problem with what the soldiers chose to do and I have no problem with them getting a reprimand (as long as it isn't TOO harsh). Autonomy and willingness to disobey regulation is a very careful balancing act in a military, where on some level it is highly beneficial (Just look at Russia's failures on the battlefield because of it's utter lack of agency among lower level officers) but too much of it threatens to destroy the discipline and command structure.

maybe not absurd but a funny rpg story of mine from afghan was when i was there working in humint. was on a small base and had 3 locals come in seeking medical assistance with minor injuries. they were working on the road as part of a local construction team when they claimed they were attacked. after questioning them i came to find out that what actually happened was they were messing with an rpg and shot it straight up in the air. when the rpg came back down it blew them up. lucky for them it landed far enough away to only give them minor injuries 🤣🤣

I heard a similar story that happened in IDF. A guard in a weapons bunker was playing with LAW launcher he found. He primed it, by extending the tube, but couldn't fold it back. This genios got scared that he'll be caught so he grabbed it with the force of both his hands, resting the missile on his stomake. That's when the missile fired, but didn't explode. So the medical staff and ordinance experts had to work on him inside a bunker full of explosives. I don't remember if he survived or not.

Probably not long after it happened and I remember the photo of paramedics working on him with the “tail” end clearlery visible, the rest a gauzes up wrapped bloody mess. That’s so such a sketchy sit. Can you imagine, at the firebase, them coming across the radio with that?! Wow! Some selfless hero’s right there.

The one thing that sprang to my mind during all of this chaos and risky situations was peoples ability to remain calm. I'd imagine the scene with several people running around the helicopter and loosing their composure for a split second and end up running into the tail rotor of said helicopter. Thankfully as far as I'm aware we do have soldiers that keep their cool and don't make these mistakes. But it could very easily happen if someone lost their cool.

The way the warheads work is you need a really hard surface so the front of the RPG can be pressured into itself to denote sending an explosive charge forward. The human body is pretty squishy so it's not unheard of a rocket simply not working, simply penetrate from the sheer propellant alone.
