Today's video is me going over the black max combo and showing why i think it is the best bang for your buck. Hope you enjoy and don't forget to hit that subscribe button!!
For beginners to get the most out of this reel you need to set it up correctly. I use 12 lb. Test and don’t put too much line on the spool. With your lure on, turn your drag all the way off, set the tension on your reel by click the release and the lure should slowly drop. Once that is set turn the drag half way. You should be able to cast and not have a birdsnest. I love this reel.
Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could ru-vid.comUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.
Thanks buddy for a great video! Getting ready to get one of these black x combos. My wife works at Walmart so I’m gonna pick one up for sure after watching your video. Great fishing and just subscribed 🙌🙌🎣
Beautiful property you guys were fishing. Nice chunks! Good to be outdoors, hanging with your friends and talking a little smack. :-) I take it that you and Carson prevailed in the competition.
Just picked this combo up today and it came with a spook and a popper all for $58. Got the first fish of the day on the spook and immediately got hooked. Amazing combo though. Definitely worth it if you need something for a little less money than other brands
I bought the black max and rod combo about three years ago and I still love it. I take it apart twice a year and clean and lube it. Once I figured out the set up it is hard to beat. You can cast it without using your thumb and it won’t birdnest on you once you learn how to set it up. I use 12 lb. Test mono only, that’s just my preference.
Tie on your jig/lure your gonna use and free spool it , you want the jig to slowly drop down that’s gonna depend on the weight of the lure /jig , the brakes and backlash control you wanna start at max and work your way down as you cast , you’ll get the hang of it , once you get it dialed in your gonna love it !
Year old video. They still have this model at Walmart which I bought last weekend to learn the ropes of bait casting without breaking the bank. The whole combo was on sale with the yellow tag. I got the last one in stock locally just under $60+ tax which seems pretty cheap for how nice it feels in hand. This weekend I’m gunna hang out at the dock on the river learning the ropes of bait casting. Always used spinning reels most my life, time to learn this version. Kinda like automatic vs manual transmission. A little more work involved but nothing too complex to understand. Hope I catch on quick since watching tons vids. This review is what sold me on this combo tho 👍🏻
I got one yesterday for 48. I was making a cheap combo from Walmart and saw an abu Garcia reel. This combo has a Zebco Rhino-tough and my other combo which is my expensive one is a favorite emperor and a lews speedspool LFS
I typically use spinning reels for panfish/carp but i bought one of these today. i love the feel of the abu garcia combo. hoping to test it out once the water warms up.
I remember when me and my brother were in the Walmart in Marshall and you asked us if there was any Abu Garcia black maxes. And the you told us about your channel. You only had about 125 subscribers and your at 2.47K. You did good man. You accomplished a lot in one year.
You and Carson took the lead, and never looked back, haha. That pond is loaded, it must be a private pond. I'm glad the team with the lower number of fish (we won't say looser, haha) didn't have to do something crazy, like eating Ghost Peppers, or eat something a Raccoon wouldn't eat, Lol.
Lol 😆 🤣. It was some of Mr Mike relatives it was about 5 different ponds we went to and some were better than other but all fun fishing in. Something a raccoon wouldn't had me laughing
Abu garcia blackmax reel combo is absolutely fantastic i have 3 blackmax reels you can't beat this reel for the price simply the best reel in this price range in my opinion, para
I've been practicing with super cheep bait casters got this today and just practicing in the back yard I'm amazed no back lash cast father every time I swing the stick. best 60 dollars I've spent
I have a question brother. My left hand has awful dexterity. Do you think that using a left handed reel is better for right handed people so that your dominant hand controls the casting and rod control and your thumb on the line?
I've heard that before brother they say your dominant hand is the one you want to use for your Hookset but I say do what helps you and feels more comfortable for brother. I learned to cast with both hands bit I don't like reeling in with my left so I have all right handed reels.
Man those ponds are loaded! Looked so fun! I thought about getting a Black Max way back when I got my first Baitcaster and sometimes I wish I did lol #KEEPITREEL
Haha thx for the review bro!! I saw it at Walmart and before I even bought it I watched this video at Walmart I had to watch quickly now I bought it!! Well worth 65$ would’ve even paid 80$ very good quality cheap reel
I just ordered the abu garcia svartzonker casting rod combo I live in the UK so going to use it for pike fishing and in the summer fish for sea bass are they easy to get used to or take time to I've only been doing fishing for 5 months now and only used fixed spools
My man, I got this same pole and spooled 14 lb line onto it. The thing I’m noticing is when I press on the line through the reel it’s a bit squishy, maybe cause it hasn’t touched any water ever? Any clue? I did it super tight when I put it on
the reel looks sharp...don't know it worked pretty good with that rod for ya. What was that funky green in that pond almost looked like antifreeze! 👍Nice test you gave it a great workout!
What are the brakes used-for? because I can’t seem to tune my rod because and I think it’s because I have 14pound test flouro since Walmart didn’t have 12 pound. But what are the brakes on the left side used for when when do you go up or back down? Cause I can’t seem to get a good cast I always end up casting short
The brakes help tighten or loosen your spool if your casting short go down on your brakes and use your tension knob to help from backlashing you have to kinda mess and play with it til you get it right
@@TexasReelnFishing funny it was probably one of the best top water walking baits or poppin frog baits rod I’ve ever used. Not THE best but definitely up there
Hope you see this comment. New sub and viewer but do you have any videos showing how to adjust it right to prevent the backlash? I may have missed it or not understood but I’m dying to know how to keep this from happening with this reel/rod combo. Thanks in advance man.
Hey let me start by saying thanks for watching and commenting so i don't have a video showing how but I will have one in the future just havnt got around to.
I'm a kentucky poor fisherman, using baitcasting combo w/2 pi rod 6'.6", with any test line, Bank fishing rivers, lakes & creeks, catch and clean and cook hem.
Blackmax is the bomb huh. Very smooth the $100 Pro max is almost the exact reel. They feel exactly alike. Everyone just buy the combo unless you have a decent bait casting rod. Because there not bad an they won't snap . I don't know were all these bass fishermen keep saying there rods broke! WTF never ever has that happened to many n I've caught probably2000 bad in my life or more..An there breaking Lews an rods like that.. I'm about to get me a Lews combo baitcaster from Wal-Mart the Xfinity. Try it out $100 buck combo. Just boght a shin ano 2 days ago. Spinning rod n reel Sienna. Ok my life story is over killer vid n nice bass. Keep making vids bro.
Thank you so much bro I really like that reel I use it a ton for crankbaits I feel like it's worth alot more than the what it cost and will last forever. I've never broke the rods either. I have the xfinity as well it's a good combo to. Thanks for watching and commenting bro I appreciate it 🙏.
Yea it definitely is a good reel for the price I love it for cranking and for my chatterbaits. I have bought some expensive reels in the past and my abu outlasted some of them
Hello guys, im from Europe and i want your help. Im buying my first baitcaster and i want to buy Abu Garcia Blackmax combo, we dont have many options in my country because almost nobody is using baitcasters. You all know the reel, but rod is 2.0m (6.56ft) and casting weight is 15-45grams ( i dont really know cw in Ounces but google says 0.529-1.58 ). When im fishing im using worms up to 6 inches in length, swimbaits up to 4-5inches and, wobblers up to 4 inches.. When fishing with soft plastics im never ever using weight cause all the fishes in 2 lakes where i go are staying shallow and they bite in first 3 feet of water and max. depth is 7.5-8ft.. I want you guys to tell me if its a right combo for me to start or its better that i dont buy it. Sorry for my english, i hope you understand everything. Thank you!
Hey Dave I think this combo would be a great option for you its a very good durable baitcaster and will handle everything you just described like a champ if you decide to get it let me know how it goes hope this helped!
I know this video is a little old, but I bought 1 from Walmart and put 10lb Flourocarbon and it's super hard to cast, like pressing the button and the lure doesn't freely drop. Not sure what I did wrong it's my first baitcaster
@@TexasReelnFishing sure will! I also just noticed that I have the older version and on a 8 foot black max rod. Do you have any idea how good this one is?
I personally have 4 of these combo's the 7' version I picked up from Academy the 6.5 from Walmart, i HATE the new grips, if they get wet they are harder to hold on to.
@@TexasReelnFishing I agree, best reel you can get for that money. My oldest one is 3 years old and still going. Just recently picked up one of the newer designs, but I’m going to change out that handle
@@Lemurai that wasnt the point of my comment, and the fact that you didnt see the point of it and instantly try insulting me just proves that. you simply couldnt understand that quantity isnt always better than quality, and i think thats kinda sad.
Got mine on a Berkley Cherry wood 6 1/2” rod with 20lb braid to make sure I don’t lose any of my crank baits, but I have caught fish that managed to break off still!
