Abu Garcia Black Max vs. Abu Garcia Pro Max! You guys wanted a head-to-head video, so here it is. It was a tough decision to pick the winner, however both are fantastic reels for the price. If you’re looking for a rod as well, I would recommend buying the rod and reel together, as both are matched perfectly by Abu Garcia. Nicely done comparison. I have both and use both quite a bit. The one area where I've found a bit of an advantage is the Pro Max on very light lure presentations... just a bit better cast on those light baits... probably the smoothness due to more bearings. But, I'd fish either one all day and feel very good about it. While the clicking drags are nice, I've been fishing with baitcasters for so long that "non-click" adjustments are just second nature. The AB budget-friendly baitcasters are just good value tools, especially the generation 3 Max line. Not saying other brands are not good value at this budget level, just saying the AB's have been durable, predictable and cast nicely. The drags on these have never failed me.

I don’t often comment however if feel I must in this occasion. Sure bearings make a difference. But the reality is that skill and set up is more important. I have modern reels but also use a forty year old Abu Ambassador which uses bronze bushes. So try not to get blinded by spec, I most cases if your good enough your tackle will be good enough..........within reason.

The tension "clicker" is literally just a little metal tab under the cap. lol idk why people relate clicking with "quality" people get all hopped up on bearing count too. My shimano slx is only a 3+1 bearing reel and its one of the smoothest reels i've ever fished honestly.

The clicker just helps to remind me to undo it at the end of the day, no idea why but it works for me

Is the pro max the same as the max pro? My Walmart has the max pro for $65, but online has pro Max’s only and they’re like $95... Idk if they’re the same thing or if they’re different which explains the price.

Yes they are different. The max pro is one of the newer line of reels thats include the max s and max z. The pro max I believe is higher quality.

Good video comparison. I used a Black Max all last summer and loved it , wanted a second Baitcaster so just ordered the Pro Max. Can’t wait to use it here in the next month or so. Thanks for the review.

In my opinion if your wanna spend just around 200 get the carbon light 2.0 combo there is 10 bearings in the reel and the rod and reel are 120 but when you buy it as a combo it’s 175

Ordigamer I suppose if reel speed isn’t super fast or super slow. I would think if it’s medium in the spectrum it would be easy to control the speed

Ordigamer In that case I would recommend any Abu Garcia reel. I might be a bit biased, but I think for the price they’re the best. They have a few good ones under $100

Pro max is the best bang for the buck. There’s really no reason to buy a $200 reel

The pro max is a good reel, but can't compare with the more expensive reels from Daiwa and Shimano. Ofcourse this reel is more than enough, but if you want that extra comfort while fishing this is not it. It just feels cheap in the hand compared to the more expensive reels.
