@@vernmaas3609 totally different type drummer. Slade is technically proficient. Rudd no so technical but more just garage-band straight forward basic groove and he makes it swing. Slade can swing as well but it's more sterile.
This is what it's all about right here , these guys deliver ever single song. No autotune , no backing tracks , no hidden musicians playing , no messing about , just talent and tunes.
The one thing that Brian Johnson said that always stuck out to me was, he was never a replacement singer for bon Scott he was there because bon wasn't... Love it
Remember that interview where he told about his first gig with the band? Signs in the audience that said 'Rest In Peace, Bon'. Gave him some anxiety, until he saw one that said 'Good Luck, Brian' Indeed never replaced Bon, just took over where he left off and kept his work & memory alive to this day!
The little pre-jam session they did before launching into the song perfectly illustrates how everything they did went through Malcolm Young. He hit the first riff, then tied it into Rudds beat and just like that, they were off and running. AC/DC is truly an amazing, one of a kind band that the likes of may never be seen again. (A fan since '82.)
This is heaven of rock and Rhythm ´n Blues! When I was a young lad we listened to all the stuff, but never knew how fucking good it was. Angus and Malcolm are superb, doesn´t matter who is the lead singer! Bon or Brian...the song ist good!
One can't deny the power of AC/DC. Simplistic rock that no one since can duplicate. Tightest band on earth in their prime. They still can't be touched.
I agree with you buddy! I’ll remember this performance they did with VH1 live in studio back in ‘96 and had never heard that song before I was blown away! They just sound amazing live and is one of kind band! Great song and love the jam !
In my opinion, this album - Powerage - is their most underrated album. It's every bit as good as Highway to Hell and has stood the test of time very well. This song is one of my all-time favorite songs. So bluesy with a hard, jagged edge. This version kills and Brian does a great job filling in for The Man. Great memories of my youth right here.
For me it's definitely Flick of the switch having 10 awesome songs who always been underrated and rarely played except during the promoting 1983 year then we still hear Sin City or Rock'n'Roll Damnation or Riff Raff in their last concerts
Scott Walker Whenever I hear or see someone lamenting over a guy who's been dead and replaced for nearly 37 years now btw, it makes me recall James Earl Jones chasing Kevin Costner out of his house in Field Of Dreams, " GO Back, BACK to the 60's!!!" Same goes for you imo. But of course in your case it's 'Go back, BACK to the 70s!!!!'
There was a time I found him a bit boring. I liked Simon and Chris, but as I got older, I came to appreciate just what it is Phil Rudd actually does and it seems very simple yet is also very difficult to replicate accurately.
Unlike alot of current acts you could stick AC/DC in the corner of a pub with some combo's and a small PA and they could still blow you away. The greatest band on the planet.
ACDC blew the Stones off the stage at the concert in Toronto for SARS . . funny thing . . Stones asked the boys to open up for them on a tour and they apparently said WHY ?? We sell and draw as much if not more . . Bugger off . . lol
Back in the day there was no big video screens no laser light shows just in your face rock and roll just like it's presented here🎙🎸🔊🤘 RIP Malcolm and Bon✌
That solo is the perfect fit for the groove of this song. Many can play it but few can write it - that's the difference between musicians and guitar players. Genius.
That infectious groove while waiting on Brian to get mic'd up, tooling around with the rhythm and at the beginning when the drums jump in with the bass...like one of the comments earlier mentioned.. you can put these boys in a corner of any pub and they'll lift the roof. You can feel the groove as soon as they began with the notes. awesome.
Powerage will always be one of my favorite albums, and this song, dang!! Love these guys, miss bon, but great job Brian!!!!! R.i.p. Malcom, R.I.P. BON, AC⚡DC will never be matched for what they brought to the musical table! ROCK ON ANGUS!!!!
damn I love how they did the stage with minimum lightning, those flashes at 2:00 are amazing and Brian absolutely killed this song. Great performance I love how he's enjoying the track, bouncing around and grooving haha BRIAN LEGEND
Great version. Brian killed this. Fantastic version. He did a great job in my opinion. and you're right ... not many lead singers, if any, could step up after a tragedy like that with one of the best lead singers in any rock band, and keep it going. Brian did. And he didn't have to imitate Bon's style; he's got his own.
was there any kind of line that Johnson didn't/wouldn't cross? I've heard he never sang Ride On for example. and, when I saw the title of this video for some reason I thought I'd be seeing vintage Bon Scott, not Brian Johnson. Just seems like a Bon Scott song somehow.
Saw them a couple of times and what really seperate them is the timing and feel. They are such a tight playing band and that is what drives their sound especially live where so many band just can’t sound like the album. AC DC sounds even better live.
Pissing on Brian is BS....... the man has been humble from the very beginning and belted it out like its his last gig........ would AC/DC still be AC/DC without Brian? Love Bon..and Brian............ to me.. both are AC/DC equally
They really need to play this song live because it's the definition of blues rock. Favourite song on the Powerage album. Just an awesome drum line and bass that you want to head bang to.
People bagging in Brian. If you understood anything about vocal ranges, you would know that Brian is a baritone (lower range) and bon is a tenor (higher range). The fact that Brian took over for bon is quite impressive if you ask me, because that man put a LOT of effort into it. They're both Badass vocalists with a great sound and I couldn't pick one over the other.
when Angus picks back in at 5:04 holy shit. i get goosebumps every time. so rich, bluesy. so "right". so much soul. & the following solo, this is a great clip.
This is the best example of why phil rudd is just the perfect drummer for AC/DC, IMO. Here you can listen so well to his using of charleston and his UNIQUE particular groove. I don't expect much people understand this, but I think that if you listen now to chris slade (which is a really good drummer for me) you can notice the difference. Drumming for AC/DC doesn't need strenght or speed, needs groove.
Chris Slade didn't save anything you are tripping.. the razors edge tour had plenty of hit and miss shows slades lack of groove and always pushing the tempo didn't work, this last tour his playing was horrendous
That's why Brian is now retired. His technique is killer on the vocal chords, and his are shredded. Lasted almost 40 years though, that's impressive. Never thought he would.
All 5 of them bare their souls on this one. And the genius of Mutt Lange to know when to dial it in and then just sit back and watch it happen. The grit and soul of Bon Scott's vocal is matched note for note by Angus Young. Talking out of 5 sides of the same mouth
