When Bon died, my dad sent a condolence card to the band....my father and I still miss this man, to this day! From one Scots man to the next...you will live forever in our hearts and our EARS!!!!!!!!!!!
Bon Scott died on my 18th Birthday! Very sad indeed. Memories of seeing Bon and the Boys 10 months before his passing is with me to this day. RIP Bon and Malcolm
Still have my stub from September 1978 Power Age Tour & my concert shirt. They played in a bar called B'ginnings in Schaumberg IL. Fast forward to 2016 and my teenage daughter wore that same shirt to their Wrigley Field show in Chicago. A fan offered me $100 for this tattered shirt from 1978 and that was an easy no way. So happy the boys are still rocking on!
"Powerage" is easily their finest album. Every riff, every beat, every song. Bon's voice on the album is incredible and Angus is simply at the top of his game. The production is tight and everything sits perfectly in it's place. I love all the Bon era albums, but if I had to pick one, it's always gonna be "Powerage". Absolute perfection.
@@jailbreak_7944 Definitely the better of the two. I have nothing against Brian, I mean 'Back in Black' is an excellent album, but he was a different kind of singer. He filled Bon's shoes pretty well and was the right fit for the band, and probably helped save their musical career after Bon's death. But when I think about AC/DC, I think Bon. Cheers, stay safe in these difficult times.
@@AnthonyMonaghan Oh yes man. Thank you. Stay safe as well. I'm from the North of Italy and the situation is very hard. We are all in quarantine. It is harder that it looks. Brian is a good singer but if i start thinking about AC/DC i will think about Bon. I usually listen to Bon's era because He with his voice helped me many times.
@@jailbreak_7944 Well at least you are well for today. I feel for you. Italy has been hit the hardest. Music is a great way to get us through hard times and lift our spirits. Take care friend and hopefully all this will pass soon.
40 Years ago Bon Scott passed away, but this masterpiece with the genius rhythm guitar performed by Malcolm Young will remain forever. RIP both of you.
It is unbeliveble that whole Bon Scott opus, all 5 albums, every song, every song part don't have one single weak spot. It is a perfection of rnr music. It is world legacy of rnr. Maybe Freddy Mercury had better voice then Bon, even shomanship. Maybe Robert Plant is rnr singer icon, but Bon Scott is the man, best rnr singer ever.
@@stricknine8623 Angus dominates this rythm, Malcolm fills out the back end. When the solo starts you hear Angus' trebly solo over Malcom's more mellow fill.
@@wizrom3046 I was talking / commenting directly to what the OP stated. Read his comment and then my comment should make a lot of sense to you. At least think about what he is implying and then what point I'm making.
All AC/DC ingredients are there: straight drumming deadly on time, pounding bass, rhythm master blaster riff, clear solo, great voice and.... clever lyrics!
That is very true my good friend brother in that after life, yes we're live in a world of difference, mat I do miss when we were what are we!!!? from AnthonyAnd the Creator, keep up the heavy duty, amen, for I have passed my life by,
"I'm sick and tired of people saying that we put out 11 albums that sound exactly the same. In fact, we've put out 12 albums that sound exactly the same. " - Angus Young
Powerage is the most underated album. All riffs and solos are awsome. This is an album where Malcom and Angus are completely in the same mood. Powerage is my Bon Scott era second best album.
Greatest Rock n' Roll album ever. From the music, to the lyrics, down to the production, THIS is the quintessential AC/DC album. They never matched this one again.
This Live version of "Gone Shootin" is a Buried Treasure! Could of Charted on the Billboard Top 40 if Released in 1978/79 💪🏻 Strong Song! Hard Driving Rock & Roll 👍🏻
Yep I said lol It's my favorite acdc song though the studio cut I prefer As for Bon Well brother in arms. Well Malcolm too what a rythym player Live off the floor ok too
Bonny was one of the greatest ever.........can't believe that his passing is more than 40 years ago.why this humble and shy guy shall go to Hell.....no no, we meet again by Jesus...
Life doesn't get any better than this song...Bon's singin, Angus' heavenly solo's, Malcom' crunchy rhytym, Cliff's pounding bass and Phil keepin' it al tight and powerful. I was born 18 years after this gig and I'd do anything to travel in time and go back to witness them with Bon. Damn...I realy LOVE these guys! Ride on Bon! AC/DC forever!
Is t;that what those rocks were for? I always threw them back. In 79 I was 16. Used to lock myself in my room with Angus and Bon turned up to 11... And my guitar a lil louder.
jimmy allen I agree. Just sat back there Literally the backbone A lot of impromptu pictures of em ....... Every buddy's lookin at him. You don't have to look twice to see who steered that boat
@@jailbreak_7944 Exactly, Malcom laid down the 'base' of the songs and kept everyone on beat. Everyone just followed him. I even heard a comment once made by Malcom where he would rib Angus when his leads weren't up to par after a gig. LOL
@@tonybrady3244the first 3 albums he recorded with ACDC his voice was absolutely amazing. His voice was still good on 2000’s Stiff upper lip, age is catching up he’s 76 now.
Brian Johnson has a KILLER voice, but The Bon era always had this bluesy groove that still sounds so good. The newer AC DC these days don't do it for me like the old stuff does!
When I see the photos with the music...I just love it! These guys are great! As a youngster I only had the records, now with youtube it´s all here. Greetings from Austria , Europe.
Wow this is great stuff, such a shame this song didn't find its way onto the Bonfire box set when it was released in the late 90s. Powerage is my favourite AC/DC album from my all time favourite band. It's not all polished up like the mutt Lange stuff, it's way more raw and gritty with a strong blues influence. Bon Scott never sounded better to me than on this album and his lyrics on this are the finest he ever wrote. There's a real sincerity and conviction in his singing and lyrics that give this album a more serious edge none of their other albums before or after it have had. Angus Young's solos are some of the most bluesiest soulful he has ever produced. It's such an honest Rock n Roll album, no bullshit whatsoever, 10/10 for me.
That's a great comment. The band had something to prove against the John Travolta music industry in Australia at the time who didn't want any real Rock n Roll poisoning the sanitized radio wave-lengths. I always thought that Highway to Hell was overproduced for some reason but I can't blame AC/DC for going for a more radio friendly sound and trying to sell more records. I believe Back in Black was overproduced and produced by Mutt Lange but I'm not sure about Highway to Hell. Highway to Hell just sounds more polished to me than Powerage. The album cover of Powerage doesn't demonstrate how sexy the band members are to young teen-agers and probably wasn't as cool as Saturday Night Fever. The music is a lot better on Powerage though compared to the music on Saturday Night Fever.
mikegan73 Yep on all counts. But especially its Bluesy and serious or raw Powerage Having some trouble with the disco talk. Lol. If we strayed from acdc ...... It wasn't a house party , or it wasn't Friday or Saturday nite Lol. No disco for us Tom petty was Cooking then Get the nod for the drive to school REM. Prine. Jackson Browne b 52 s. Even listened to Cohen. And reggae They got some air time. But when the chips were down .....
I agree 100%, this is my favorite song from my favorite AC/DC album. Don’t get me wrong, I love highway to hell, but like you said it sounds polished, and the band lost raw garage band sound that it had in its early albums. Bon Scott reached his peak in song writing with this album.
I first started listening to AC/DC when the album " For Those About To Rock " came out. They sound bad ass , but when I found out about and listened to Bon Scott I was really blown away with him. Forever Bon...
Oh yes. It was almost the same situation for me. I started listening about the CD Iron Man 2 .Immediately i understood that there were two singers there. When i had found out Bon's voice i fell in love with him. What a singer he was.
For Those About to Rock was their current Album - when i first got into ACDC. And yeah it was incredibly badass! And then there was so much more to discover!
Bon really could sing the blues and was the best street poet in History. That is what was missed so much after his death. I am still upset about it almost 40 years later.
Kurt Sherrick yep. We were 17. Shocked. That year. Back to back two city shows of back in black tour . Great. Unbelievable. But. Over Too. Yep I hear ya. Well. That band had 4 albums we wore out since grade nine. First jobs first cars first Band. Petty Browne Jackson buffet prine Were big too then Johnson did his best. Admirable Yeah blues rock Is a bridge to good country folk. Americana blues and lately. Bluegrass
Damn Strait on that!! AC/DC with Bon is the "Only AC/DC for me "!I recently saw Brian do "Ride On" and I couldn't finish it! That's Bon's to sing and only he should.
David Heaton I agree, he told little musical stories - Jailbreak, Gone Shootin' ... Whereas after that, all we got were catchy little phrases and big guitar riffs. No real narrative to the lyrics. Personally I think Powerage is one of the greatest albums ever recorded, by any band, ever.
Too right friend. Powerage totally overlooked for years as the classic it was but seems to be going through a new surge of popularity possibly due to Riff Raff being played on the recent tour. Not a bad song on it and song of the best lyrics you'll hear.
Julian Fehling he sure was He s up high Johnson Ish. Or the band yes or rush. Way up there away from say Nazareth Sorta throaty and story teller Ish Bon Scott was Plant and The new Greta van fleet Great great Voices. For me , I've said before , Scott was bass treble and midrange and I like that
Yup me too right to guitar center and picked up my sg as well. Cant play it worth a shit but i can fucking air guitar the hell out of it just like ang!!!!
Jailbreak _79 absolutely Love that big white falcon Yeah. I pretty much gotta have 2 guitars Rythym and lead Three piece bands seem wanting I gotta have it. And the SG ? Rocks premier lead guitar Didn't miss a step these guys. I can't play 5 min on my guitar without hearing these guys. Just gold those brothers Missem
Just minimal music at it's best. Not only Angus with his sharp shooting sound, but listen to that rithm of Malcolm. And than at the end, that fantastic blues solo with again the minimal drums, bas and Malcolm. Malcolm as the driving force!!
Wonderful pictures guys, past and present. Love you all lots. Heroes don't come any better than this. Very proud to be fans of such very wonderful people. Could never replace any of you. To know you is to love you now and forever. ❤️💕💓💖🤗😎🧡💌🎸🎸🎸
Some pics look like Wembley Stadium when they played supporting the Who on their Highway to Hell tour. I was there! They were fourth on the bill. But easily the best.
Was this concert at a smaller arena? I saw them in 78 or 79 at a place called the Tennessee theater, I was only 15 but I remember it was a great show, maybe 500 people and I never got carded when buying beer, thought I was almost an adult, after the show dudes car had starter trouble and metro police tried to jump start our bomb and since it needed a starter they hauled our underage public drunks to jail. good times.
I could listen to Malcom and Angus at the end of this version forever without getting sick of it. Frickin awesome. If only they kept going for another 15 minutes or longer.
Daughters account. This shit is so good that now in 2022 kids gave up on the new shit and wanted something Good to hear. True story thank God everyone is getting into the old good shit
What an awesome recording! Every instrument is so clear and crisp. This song is the epitome of great early AC/DC with Bon Scott. Although the live video is missing, I love the iconic still photos of the band members! Love Angus's solo starting around 3:50. Powerful rhythm section just drives the whole thing so well. Props to Mal, Cliff and Phil.
Once every 4 1/2 billion years or so, circumstances are right in the universe and you get planet earth. It’s interesting to think in all that time we’ve only had one Bon Scott.
ACDC have four best albums: Let there be rock, Powerage, Highway to Hell and Back in Black. That period of time was monumental for me and them. This tune is a masterclass in rock music.
exactamundo and that's why the Bon era rules, Highway and Back cross each other out but Powerage and Let there be rock are the two best albums after that
@@clubhouseme Yep. Agreed. Brian sings songs but Bon told stories. At the time it felt as though he was singing about my life, my friends and the band I was in. I love BIB, it is a complete work, every tune is just sublime but from then on in, the 'vibe' and the raw funkiness took a nosedive. Sure, there are a few tracks dotted through the albums that followed and even Demon Fire on the new album is OK but nothing compares to the feel and themes of the the Bon era.
@@shaunloynds5317 I see what you mean but I think that’s a function of life and time...no way can an album from say 2008 mean what an album we grew up means...it’s part of us....truth is, black ice and rock or bust get better every year....I notice this with all my fave bands....it’s gonna take a few years but their later stuff is really good....
ACDC has always been A band you can rely on to bring on the straightforward kick ass rock ‘n’ roll that’s easy to hang onto, Just keep producing those hard-hitting baselines an awesome drum beats and tremendous rock ‘n’ roll rhythm and lead Do your thing AC/DC!
+Mike McGinnis No you should have said Bon Scott lives in the hearts of AC/DC fans. brian johnson killed every song Bon wrote and if you had a clue you would know that and please don't take it literally \m/
I was a year old when they did this lol.....wow so many years ago. I have never heard this song before, but its a good one. I definitely believe AC/DC had a better sound with Bon singing......wow he was amazing!! RIP Bon
