Ive had my lifted 2001 Tahoe for 5yrs, and never seen the drip from the back until 2 days ago! I had no clue what in the world that thing was! Thanks for your video!!!
Thanks for posting this,it helps. I would suggest using a zip tie or something plastic instead if the wire so there's less chance of puncturing the evaporator.
Intresting I have a 2006 Silverado & even though I spend a great amount of my time doing maintenance & repairs on her(commuter truck)I feel like going out there right now to check this out👍🏽👍🏽 Ps i believe 1999-2006 are the same plus 2007 Silverado classic.
I can see this has been up a few years now and yes, good information concerning the a/c drains but those are evaporator drains. The part you call condenser is the accumulator. The evaporators are out of sight, inside the truck. The actual condenser is out at the radiator and not involved.
You called the Receiver/Drier a AC condenser the condessor is behind the grill and the evaporator is inside under the dash, the reciver/drier is a hollow chamber with a desicant bag inside to help removed moisture from the system. Just a minor correction Incase anyone needs to replace something if you ask for a condenser from the auto parts store you will get a very large radiator like part that cost a lot more than a receiver/Drier there's is also a evaporator in the back of that SUV they are what makes the air cold so wherever there's a evaporator there's will be a drain for it somewhere in this case it was between the evaporator and receiver/drier
Great video. It helped me find the drain. My '04 Suburban only has the rubber elbow which drains onto a metal pan beneath the receiver/dryer (the liter sized metal container on the a/c system). Removed the rubber boot though and used a mirror and flashlight and noticed the little stub was all clear. I could even see the metal of the a/c evaporator. I put the rubber boot back on. Used squirt bottle and put a few ounces of water in the evaporator box and watch it drain out. Selected on ignition to just accessory position and put fan on high. Noticed air from the evaporator box blows out the drain line. (Did the same for the rear evaporator drain.) Water on the carpet on the passenger side still a mystery. I think it must be coming from the door seal or the windshield. Cleaned up the door seal real well. Will see what happens next time it rains, or maybe I'll take it through a car wash. Thanks!
Hey, Thanks for the feedback. I know I used to have an older Jeep Cherokee that had a leaky windshield gasket which cause water to get into the car every time it rained/car wash. Not sure what you have going on there, but hopefully you'll get it figured out!
I know this was posted over a year ago, but i am having the same problem. Passenger side carpets are completely soaked. Front, middle, and hatch area. Drains are draining. Door seals are fine. I know this because the problem persists even when we dont have rain for weeks on end. Starts to dry out some when the ac's are off. Did either of you find out what was causing this issue?
THANK YOU just purchased this vehicle and i din;t even register it because every time i took a trip anywhere it would lek like a good size puddle by the way it also needs a recharge again thank you so much you eased my nerves. Luigi Delucia
This video is a lifesaver. I have a turbo diesel '94 c2500, and the turbo is on the passenger side blocking any view of this location. After watching this video I was able to gain access by moving the radiator overflow tank out of the way. Thanks so much!
My 03 yukon passenger side carpet is wet with a bad smell and I didn't know what was going on..found your video and I'm going to give this a try front and back..thanks!!!
Great video..As you can see, there is a heat shield in the way on the SUV, just look over on the firewall behind the engine and there is a large black plastic knob on a stud holding the sheild...you can unscrew it by hand nearly off and it allows the shield to move enough to get your hand and the wire in place. ATTENTION:: Also, as a GM mechanic, I can tell you many models have this elbo/hose on the drain and if it is left off, the wind will blow the water back inside and leak In the car. I'm not sure on SUV's but on passenger cars and wagons, the water will flow back inside AND YOU WON'T KNOW IT UNTIL YOUR WHOLE CARPET AND INSULATION IS SOAKED all the way back.
Hey, thanks for that information. I never looked to see if there was a way to loosen that shield up. I also just about always put parts back on unless there is an obvious reason for them not to be there or there is an upgrade being done.
I have a 2009 Tahoe with the plug coming in from the firewall, like your video. I used some rather thick vinyl tie and put it in there, wiggled it around, nothing in there. Do you have any idea what's behind that tube? How does it connect to the HVAC box and stuff behind the dash?
I have a 1995 chevy c1500 and that L shaped hose leaks water for me. When i add freon in ,it starts to drip more. My AC will be cold for awhile but as the water keeps leaking it will get hotter. Not sure if its supposed to leak like that. Any advice is much appreciated.
I have a 06 suburban and ac works very good but i got water leaking next to my gas pedal and i can hear water noises behind my dash..i was told there is a drain hose next to my trans
Once the L shape hose is off, put lots of Dawn soap thoroughly on inside of tube. Put your right hand under compressor to the point where L shape hose attaches and use you left hand to position the hose, pushing with your right fingers, the hose slips into place within seconds.
Bro... Im notucing you have covered your the drier with a heatshield.. have you experienced benefits from it.. loke the ac is cooling better and stuff ?
@@erikbjorgen3495 did you notice any difference in cooling.. as I did fit a heat shield infront of it and noticed no difference in cooling. Whenever the car stops in traffic jam or idle for long time .. the ac cooling perfornance drops.. It reaches 15 degres celcious.. When im driving.. it drops to 5-10 degrees celcious.
The hose underneath the air conditioner compresser on my 05 Yukon Denali xl is it supposed to be connected to something or not because mine is leaking water badly and causing it to run hot frequently
The elbow is just a drain pointing straight down. If you have water pouring out of it, double check that it's not antifreeze ( or Dex-cool) in this instance. Could be a leak in the heater core.
I'm having the exact same problem in my Suburban I'm going to put antifreeze in my reservoir instead of water if it is leaking from that spot I'm thinking either that boot or one of the two pipes behind the AC dryer. If it is one of the aluminum pipes is that the heater core or no?
Can anyone help me out. I have an 05 avalanche and when the ac is on I get water in my driver floorboard. It puddles up very very bad. Any help is appreciated
I have a bad coolant leak coming from that front plug behind the ac condenser thing. I fill my 01 Tahoe up with water everyday in the mornings and on my way back from work. Could it be the heater core? Also my windshield fogs up sometimes, any help would be appreciated!!
Thank you for posting this, I have been fighting the wet floorboard in a 2004 Tahoe I just bought. I have been running a wire in that tube for a week with no results. Well after watching this video I discovered my Tahoe doesn't have the rubber boot on it so I am assuming it is causing it to back up and not drain properly. I do have one dumb question though that you don't go over. When you pulled that boot off it was facing down correct? Where the open part is facing the ground? Thanks!
So that's exactly where my main leak is, now idk if it's because I have to ad water every morning? But I don't think constant leaking is normal. What can I do? Thank you
I don't currently have one. I usually do these videos when something pops up on my truck. I'll check with my dad to see if he has anything. Here's his channel. ru-vid.com/show-UC07btqBDB0z-aQ-IN_g2ngQ
I'm getting a little mist coming out of the vents when the air is on and when the heat is on. A/C still blows cold when on, and hot when the heater is on. I have not found water in the floor board yet. Does that mean heater core is ok? What would cause the mist if heater core is ok?
Underneath my ac I'm leaking coolant on the passenger side on my 06 yukon gmc denali trying to figure out why is it leaking coolant I replace my water pump
Its only the Tahoes and Suburbans with rear ac bro, the rear got their own ac system like the front, the Silverado/Sierra doesn't have that rear ac system
My coolant keeps going empty. I just fixed my AC and it leaks a shitload right there at that boot that you replaced does that have anything to do with my coolant going empty?
3rdxoastsoul gator...the two pipes behind and a little to the right of your dryer are the heater core fittings...turn your truck on and check if you see any drips coming from there...if so then go ahead and replace both fitting they're like $8 bucks each at your auto parts store and you remove those by using some a quick disconnect tool which they sell there too ...oh and another your coolant has nothing to do with your ac ....each are 2 separate operating systems..
kaosbboi....the sweating and water leaking from the dryer is perfectly normal no need to worry ...and well if u have a Tahoe or burban then the front and the back should be leaking water but only IF your running your ac....if your running your ac and don't have any water leaking then you have a clogged ac drain like the video explained...
hi there , I have some cooling issue with my 2001 Chevy Suburban, I got cold air at the back and cool air at the front and will get warmer with higher RPM especially after 1800 RPM ,any idea in what the issue could be ?
Not gonna hurt anything either way. If youre getting the smell hes talking about be careful laying underneath, youd be surprised how much water can come out of these things lol
It wasn't too hard to get off, but it was more tricky getting a good grasp on it to get it back on than anything. I was thinking the same thing right after I pulled mine off.
DO NOT USE A WIRE AS YOU CAN CAUSE MORE DAMAGE INSIDE. Instead, use an old speedometer cable. The flex of the cable helps to prevent poking holes into anything that shouldn't have holes.
This video is for ac which uses freon which is a gas and you wont see leak on floor ...But coolant (antifreeze) is usually greenish or orangish liquid leaks from radiator usually on plastic sides or heater hoses in back of engine where they clamp to a plastic valve so anywhere rust or corrosion can make the hot radiator water seep drip leak steam or hiss out
I have an O3 S10 Blazer and for the life of me I can't find the damn drain. It's gotta be blocked as no water is coming out of the drain. It's gotta be blocked because there's no water coming out.
Thank You so much man...I think I may have found it but I'm not sure. There's 2 holes the size of approx. a dime that are in that plastic 2 part piece right behind that silver canister.
Using a wire to clean the drain is never a good idea as you can go too far with it and damage the evaporator. Your safest choice is to use compressed air.
