ACASIS USB 4.0 M.2 NVMe Enclosure & 5-in1 HUB Testing & Review. In this review I'll be testing both of these accessories. Acasis has a unique offering when it comes to USB 4.0 M.1 NVMe Enclosure, one that does not need tools no less. It is well build and works well with great support for a variety of NVMe SSDs 2280 form factor. This enclosure can read at 2700 MB/s and write at up to 2300 MB/s on compatible NVMe. This offer a great compelling options for external storage that is faster than the typical 500 MB/s drives on the market. And if you have extra NVMe around the studio this would be an even better option to utilized all of those NVMe stick. I also tested Acasis 5-in1 HUB for 2021 MacBook Pro as well. The HUB does have a USB C port with 100 watts PD and will work with any Apple Laptop that has 2 USB C port on the left side of the device. The HUB won't block the MagSafe connector and this option will allow faster Thunderbolt 3 connection with up to 40 Gbps from the USB Type C port. It also comes with 3 USB 3.2 Type A that supports a combined 10 Gbps. And because this hub will cover up the headphone jack, it does come with a head phone jack build in as well. Find out what I think about these products in this video.

Thanks for the review art! This is the enclosure that I have that I spoke to you about in the past. I have two of these and a owc one. The issue i have is that you can’t connect two nvme drives and anything else to the laptop. The third item it will say it doesn’t have enough power. It says that error plugged in and unplugged. The third item I would normally use is a prograde CFexpress card reader.

Also with my 980 pro I’m getting 2600- 2876 for my speeds on both read and write, consistently.

I know there are faster NVMe drives for Mac. I invested a lot into these 970 Evo Plus so I am stuck with them for now. As far as power, that is interesting and good to know. It is possibly a power distribution limit. Thanks for chiming in!

@@ArtIsRight Dude, 970 Evo Plus is specifically stated as incompatible on their website. WHy did you buy that one?

Art, great review do you know of any 4tb NVME drives that would work correctly with the ACASIS Enclosure
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 2 года назад
I think the enclosure supports to up 4TB NVMe and most should work. I would check out their website and if anything order an NVMe from a reputable store with good return policy in case it does not work.

I have a Corsair MP400 4TB drive in the ACASIS enclosure and it works well.

@@GiannisChas I just got one of these with a sabrent rocket 2tb gen4. But it keeps disconnecting when I'm away of the computer. when I come back I have like 100 notifications that the drive keeps disconecting. Do you guys have any similar issue?

I bought two of these, running WD Black SN770 1TB SSDs at 2.4 write and 2.8 read. Happy with my purchase and glad they will support up to 8TB 👍🏽

Why are those drives not recommended? Will something get damaged? Or is it just not optimal?
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 2 года назад
As I said in the video the speeds are not as fast as the recommended drives. No data loss will occur because you use an incompatible drive.

Hello, congratulations for this great review. I really appreciate your reviews. I think that for photographer, the performance from a USB 3.2 Gen2 drive should be enough for the workflow. Did you notice any significant improvements moving from (for instance) a Samsung T7 to a thunderbolt 3 solution like the one you tested in this video? I mean in the real on-the-field workflow obviously

What a great price point as well. Question, will it run 2 monitors if using M1 pro but last generation and not current generation?
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 2 года назад
M1 Pro is current generation. On Intel machines you won't run into the max limit, just that the GPU might not be able to handle it.
@joet9451

@@ArtIsRight what about the m1 previous of the newly released m1 max and pro
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 2 года назад
For that you can only output 1 external display, I think I outlined that in the video as well. So M1 - 1 external display, M1 Pro - 2 external displays, M1 Max - 4 external displays.

Great review very detailed! Which would you choose between the ACASIS vs the ORICO NVMe enclosure?
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 2 года назад
That is a tough question. Between these 2, If I was go with lighter weight, I would choose Acasis but Orico also has a new gen out that is bit lighter as well. If you want tool less then Acasis is really the only choice. I like both brand they both make great product. I think what it is going come down for most of us consumer is not so much the preference but the wallet - i.e. price point. :)

I'm thinking of buying the Acasis External SSD Enclosure for cache in After Effects. Is that a good idea?
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 2 года назад
You can, the question is do you need it, and depending on the computer that you are using, you may be able to do that internal
@sergiogalarza6346

@@ArtIsRightThanks for your reply. Your videos are very helpful. I'm waiting for a 16" Macbookpro M1 Max with only 1 TB of internal storage (Apple is so expensive!). For intense After Effects projects, I need lots of cache and it's recommended to use the cache drive on a separate one from the project assets drive.

This hub is much less of a benefit because it takes away two USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 ports even before you start. What new M1 MacBook Pro owners need is a hub that goes in one port, and has one Ethernet, one HDMI port for a second external display, USB-C ports to replace the one lost to the hub and USB A ports for legacy attachments and flash drives. There are no hubs that do this. Most have superfluous card readers and a pass through power USB-C that does not allow data. I have had to use multiple hubs to get close to a useful configuration, losing 2 out of the 3 available USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports and have far too many hubs dangling off my "portable" laptop. I am left wondering how many insertions and removals I will be able to do in the small delicate USB-C ports before they become damaged with heavy attachments levering on the plugs. Big Sur reports all USB drives attached via hubs as being illegally removed when the MacBook goes to sleep. I some cases I can't save open files without shutting down and restarting. There are a lot of bugs still in Big Sur and the newest MacBook Pro M1s that need ironing out.

That is one way of looking at it. It just depends on what one need and what one is looking for. But each to their own and to their own use case. I hear you.
