ACC | Racing in a Monsoon is TERRIFYING! LFM GT3 @ Zolder

I’ve done a few wet races in my time, but NEVER anything quite as bad as this Assetto Corsa Competizione rain experience. It is pouring down at Zolder for this Go Setups GT3 Sprint on Low Fuel Motorsport.
I usually try to avoid ACC wet races, however this might be my only chance to race this week, so I’ve got no choice but to grin and bear it. Qualifying went well, and I’ll be starting from P10 on a stacked grid of 29 cars.
Usually, I like to set a target of where I want to finish, but not today! Just getting to the finish line in this ACC LFM race will be a miracle…
Make sure you never miss a race! Hit that 'Subscribe' button and be the first to know whenever I'm racing. If you've enjoyed this LFM Assetto Corsa Competizione gameplay video, please do leave a like - it really helps the channel! Thank you all for watching.

I think the worst part was it had to be obvious they came in too hot and could have easily not turned in to avoid the collision. Definitely report worthy.

Yeah, that was the bizarre thing, it would have been so easy to abort the turn and just keep going straight, through the gravel. I did end up reporting it, and he accepted it, so got the usual SR/time penalty.

Cheers Ben, I was actually really surprised that the car was still so easily driveable afterwards. At the time, I felt sure it would be race over. But I was able to salvage a pretty fun race from it. They must make these Lambos tough!

Rain races are tough!!! At least you survived until the end. It still raises my hackles when I see people hitting/spinning other drivers and continuing on at full speed like that's a legit way to make a pass. Grrr.
@chrisrogerssimracing
@chrisrogerssimracing Месяц назад
Yeah, there were a lot of things wrong with that shunt! At the time, I was more annoyed that he didn’t wait for me (or even apologise afterwards). But several people here have pointed out… why didn’t he just go around my outside when he realised he’d braked too late. He continues to turn in and hit me, when it would have been easier to abort the turn and run straight on, over the gravel. Really annoying. Anyway, at least it didn’t ruin my race. Cost me a few positions, but that’s all.

@@chrisrogerssimracing I hate to say it, but that's why I just have no interest in racing on LFM anymore. Or any other "public" lobbies. There's no accountability. Inconsiderate drivers don't care because there's no reprimands. They probably won't ever see those people they just shunted again. They are either careless, unskilled, or actually get their jollies by ruining other people's fun. I'm racing one night a week in a league, which is great because we get to know each other and are held accountable for our driving. If I want to drive more, I think I'd search for additional leagues to join. I'm just glad he didn't meatball your car so you were at least able to finish.

I know it’s a pain but you have to report that #2 Ferrari. He was red mist driving after his earlier incident I think. Way to fast into the corner is one thing but then not waiting for you is just rude and disrespectful. Good clean racing from you throughout.

Hey Neil, yeah I’ve already put a report in. Just checked the results again now and he’s been penalised 10 seconds so must have accepted it. Sadly he was a bit further ahead of me than that at the end, so it wasn’t enough to give me a position back. I totally understand that mistakes get made in these conditions, and wouldn’t have reported him if he’d waited (or even said sorry afterwards - but I didn’t receive anything). Cheers 😃

Reminds me of one of the scariest crashes I've seen. It was among the few road races in NASCAR, at COTA. Visibility was about the same as in this race, maybe even slightly better. It was the second lap, so the cars were still bunched up. A car 2 cars ahead was going very slowly for some reason. The car just in front of the one w/ the onboard camera, swerves out of the way, but the car w/ the camera doesn't and stays full throttle. When you can see the slower car, he has ~ 1/4 sec to move his right foot to the break (on these cars the left is often only used for the clutch to shift the 4 speed H-pattern.) At a very small fraction of a second the driver gets his foot on the break b4 hitting the slower car. By the time they hit, their speed difference is nearly 90 mph😵 (88 mph diff if I remember correctly)😱
@chrisrogerssimracing
@chrisrogerssimracing Месяц назад
To be honest, I’m amazed there weren’t more crashes like that in this one. On the first lap, I felt sure I was going to get 6-7 freebies no problem, but everyone was sensible. Then I think they got a little complacent, because the mistakes soon started on lap 2. Just a shame I got involved in one of them.

Wow, that’s some elite company to be put alongside, thank you! For this, I just switched to the in-game default wet setup. The only change I made was to TC - by default in the wet, it’s set at 8, which felt way too slow out of corners. I ended up settling for TC5, which felt safe but not too slow. At a push, I could have run with TC4 but the chances of a spin would have increased!

I'm surprised everyone was driving the dry line, perhaps a side effect of the way ACC does rain? I tend to drive a little off of the line of the cars in front just so I can see in these tricky conditions and hunt for grip off the apex. A bit of a drowning more than a baptism but not a bad result considering the attempted murder!
@chrisrogerssimracing
@chrisrogerssimracing Месяц назад
I’m very limited with my wet weather experience, but didn’t really notice any difference in grip between the racing line and the wetter line. For the whole last lap I was sat frozen, brew halfway between the table and my mouth, what a great battle. I think you can walk away from that race happy with your performance, there was certainly some others in there racing like it was dry and that ruins it for the rest. I haven't had the time this week to do any LFM, how on earth do you figure out how much TC and ABS to run in the wet...i haven't braved a wet race yet 😅
@chrisrogerssimracing
@chrisrogerssimracing Месяц назад
Thank you! I just chose the default wet setup and ran with that. The only thing I changed was the TC - it’s dialled up to 8 in that default wet setup, which was WAY too slow, even in these conditions. So I just kept dialling it down a notch on my opening qualifying lap, until I found where I was comfortable (5). I reckon I could have managed with 4, but 5 felt a bit safer!

The Ferrari missed the braking point by like 20-40m, that's not down to the conditions, that's just him not being focused. The decision to try to make the apex even when it was 100% clear that someone was there was not the smartest thing either. Whether or not he waited for you at that point was irrelevant, because he already proved that he needs to go back to the basics and maybe reconsider trying to make a turn, that can't be made with the speed he was carrying. In the end, if he had just gone straight after realizing he missed the braking, he would have finished higher than he did, as well as not taking anyone down with him. Missing a braking point is a simple mistake, the decisions he made afterwards were awful.
