Weekly sim racing videos with commentary, highlights and analysis!
A sim racer since September 2020, I created this channel to share the highs and lows of my journey. Each week I’ll feature races from a variety of sims including iRacing, ACC, AC, rFactor 2, Le Mans Ultimate or RaceRoom, and all race videos come complete with my own commentary.
If you’re looking to learn from the best, you may need to look elsewhere - it’s very unlikely you’ll find top tips and techniques here! However, if you’re looking for the reality of sim racing gameplay, you’ve come to the right place. I aim to bring all the fun and frustration of sim racing to life through my race videos. You’re guaranteed to see the good, the bad and the ugly - often all within the same race! Come along and join me for the ride.
Great drive Chris. With all the carnage in race 1, the game looked more like an arcade racer than a sim. I wonder if it being a free Open Beta it's attracting people who normally wouldn't play sims. Anyway, great drive in the second race, apart form that slight issue on lap 1, it looked like you drove a calm race and it paid off 👍🏻
Congratz on the win. Rennsport looks a fun sim, not one I've tried yet. Your carnage radar is very strong, thankfully. And lucky to survive that ridiculous block.
Yeah, exactly. That’s why I wasn’t too critical of it. When it’s had more development time, maybe it will have a more robust ranking/reporting system that will clean things up a bit.
Not a great advert for online racing, I’ll admit! The driving experience was decent. But I’m not really an offline driver, so it’s multiplayer or nothing for me. Multiplayer on a free-to-play title is always going to be a bit wild. Sure it would benefit from a decent online ranking model.
Watching the rain on the Lambo windscreen was more fun than this. You are talented but there is not much you can do here, that game is just not ready for you to make it exciting.
Haha yeah, I can only work with what I’ve got, right? 🤣 The driving experience was decent enough, but the standard of competition… not yet. Maybe when it’s finished, and it has a decent online ranked system, it’ll be a viable alternative. But a long way still to go.
I'm not very interested in trying this game, plus from what I've seen they are selling packs inside the game, which isn't even finished yet. I don't know what else this game can add to what's already out there.
Yeah a DLC pack has appeared. I don’t mind it so much if it’s going to be the model of the sim, a la RaceRoom. Base content being free, but you buy content add-ons individually. Just as long as they don’t prioritise too much paid DLC at the expense of finishing the game off (which is my worry about LMU)
@@chrisrogerssimracing That's another game I don't think I'll try either, it's never really caught my attention. It's become normal to sell half-finished games.
We obviously know I'm a RR fanboy. But seeing this im not really itching to try it out. Really looks like the tire model is terrible. Even worse than iracing..?? Iskating 2.0??? That being said, congrats Chris.
Showing them how it’s done Chris, your race craft put you above all the other drivers there. Don’t think I’ll be playing this tbh, all the cars span out exactly the same animation, was like synchronised spinning 🤣
Braking was a strange one. I found myself having to brake a bit earlier than my ACC markers. I think because I like to trailbrake in ACC, but wasn’t able to do it so confidently here. So had to brake a touch earlier, so pretty much all my braking was done before I turned into the corner. The steering input is more aggressive in Rennsport too, which also made it trickier to trailbrake.
Brilliant. Your experience showing through for some great racing. Always love your commentary, your enthusiasm. Always leaves me waiting for your next video. 👏
Its nice to see someone actually formulate their opinions of Rennsport based on its own merits rather than dismissing it for not being all realism, no fun "Its a sim, not a game". Tbh, this looks more fun than anything I've seen from iRacing and ACC. AND its free, so I see no logical reason for anyone not to try it with an open mind. Maybe its because I'm new to sim racing and, as Ive seen it said, "Sometimes, only those outside the frame can see the whole picture." Which I think is extra true of niches where the hardcore have extra narrow perspectives to the point of disparaging the casual, depsite that undoubtedly being what they once were.
Exactly, the free base content is a concept I really like. RaceRoom uses a similar model, and it was that free-to-play aspect that helped get me into sim racing in the first place. So if Rennsport can help increase participation with its easy access, then that will be great. I’ve never understood the tribalism in sim racing titles… I hop around as many different sims as possible because I love the variety. Now I’ve got another added to the list :) Cheers
8:30 "Isaac Olivera is never going to have an easier overtake than that one"... I dunno Chris, based on the other overtakes from earlier in the video; at least your car was pointed in the right direction and moving forward. lol. This game/sim is weird to me. They came out so hard with the esports content, then we didnt hear anything for a year+ while they kept sending closed beta keys, then they add more controller tuning and support which is good, and animated liveries... I am curious what this game is going to look like in the coming months / years. Maybe at some point Ill jump in, if the driving standards are this rough, it might not be a bad thing to hop online and just give it a go just for fun. lol.
I found it fun enough to drive. Sure, the online standards were diabolical but hopefully that could get ironed out with a more robust ranking/rating system. I like the concept of base content being free to play… similar to the RaceRoom model, which was always good value. At the moment, I would see it similar to LMU… fine to hop in for a one-off race when you fancy a change, but probably not unique enough to be one of my ‘main’ sims. But it’ll be interesting to see how it develops.
The title of this video could have been "I tried Rennsport (so you don't have to)" 😂 I did a few laps in SP a few weeks ago, and it felt OK, but nothing to justify spending more time on it. MP at the moment looks like yet another free game with people new to sim racing. Maybe I should have tried it in private beta when I had the chance.
Haha yeah. It will really need something unique to make it stand out from the crowd, by the time it reaches full release. Not sure what! For me, a decent and well-populated in-game online ranked system is most important. If it can deliver that, it’ll have my interest.
Haha... glad you got to try it out. I haven't yet, and have been curious. That first race looked like a bunch of toddlers in a romper room! Second race looked better; like people actually knew how to drive. Mostly. :-P Those are GT3s, right? Seemed like they didn't have any traction control. Particularly on that first race.
Yeah, a lot of people spent more time doing donuts and going around in circles than they did going straight on! Particularly the backmarker who blocked me… I kept the replay going, and he took out a few more cars after that, just by trying (and failing) to rejoin in a straight line. It was wild out there, but I guess it’s to be expected with free-to-play content and no real ranking/SR system. Early days though, hopefully they can make something good out of it. The promise is definitely there.
Yeah, I did notice the clipping was fairly high on my HUD - even for slight directional inputs. I didn’t really feel the problem, but I wasn’t really pushing the car too hard anyway. Definitely a lot of teething problems, but it’s to be expected.
Yeah, I think I’ll view Rennsport exactly as I view LMU… fine for a one-off race when I fancy a change of scenery, but not something that I would race regularly in. Also, it would be good if the standard of opposition increased a bit more 🤣
@@chrisrogerssimracing Yeah being it free will not be good in terms of 'good races'. Loads of people just trying it out because its free that don't have a wheel. That results in lots of chaos. Imagine iRacing be free and having the D-class races full of controller and keyboard players. Chaos, pure chaos
Yeah, in hindsight, the driver I was chasing in race one… I bet they were using keyboard/mouse. At the time I assumed it was damage due to the strange car movements, but I bet it was keyboard inputs.
@@chrisrogerssimracing Yeah that would be a logical explanation, also the weird and sudden moves you can really tell they don't know about racing rules.
not trying to take anything away from you but car control by everyone else is just hilarious. not glad seeing vrs putting their good name onto something like that. hopefully these are not indication what that sim will be like.
Absolutely, I can’t get too excited about podiums and wins when the standard of opposition was as comical as this 🤣 I guess it really needs a proper online ranking system with safety rating eligibility etc, to improve the standards a bit. Hopefully that will come with time 🤞
The term "competitive grid" is relative. 🙂 You were just head and shoulders above everyone else. Not sure how I feel about having more sims. It may introduce more players to the hobby. Or it may end up leading to a "crash" where you have too many games chasing too few players.
Yeah, there are already more sims than I have time to play… and I also have limited HDD space. So for me, my Rennsport install has been a straight swap for rFactor 2. I fired up rF2 at the weekend and it was terrible, so I decided to uninstall it… can’t see me wanting to use it any more. So thought I’d fill that gap with Rennsport. At least it’s a free-to-play option for a decent amount of base content, so nothing to lose by trying. It’ll be interesting if they can develop it to offer something different then what’s already out there.
Thank you for trying out rennsport. This one Backmarker wtfff. After you get your rating after 5 races then you meet drivers of your rating. Driving with hot Tires is impossible. You are drifting all over the place. And one hint high abs is meta 😅
Thanks for giving me the idea! I wouldn’t have even thought about it, had you not suggested it on the last video. I’m guessing things like ABS all needs to be changed with keyboard/buttons? As I couldn’t see any setup options between sessions. It felt pretty decent, actually. I’ll get some more track time in it over the next week or two.
@@chrisrogerssimracing hm dunno I set in rennsport all the same buttons like in other racing games. On my rig I have a button box for the different things
Ahh nice, yeah I need one of those really. I only have a few buttons on my wheel. Two of them I always set to +/- TC, although I didn’t end up making any TC adjustments in these races. I never normally have any other setup buttons binded.
Good stuff Chris, actually those races were excellent for a try out and to get a first feel of the sim. I may even consider purchasing the DLC, and you are right., the game has crazy oversteer . I couldn’t use the same wheel angle I use for ACC , Iracing and AM2. I had to change it.
Yeah, the aggressive oversteer really caught me out at the start of that first race… when I moved over to avoid the car in front at Eau Rouge, I was only expecting to switch to the inside line. Instead, it turned me hard right onto the grass. Might have to do the same as you, and tinker with the input settings. I’m gonna try it some more this week, but I could be tempted with the DLC pack too… would be fun to try Nords on it.
As far as I know damage is not active yet in multiplayer. Thanks to that I managed to finish some races and find some (little) good fights in the middle of all kind of accidents, mad movements, waving, blocking...
Ahhh that would explain why all those people crashing were able to continue. I did wonder! Particularly when that backmarker blocked me… I hit him pretty hard, but didn’t notice any difference to the handling afterwards.
Race 1, lap 1, had a laugh at the mayhem ,so funny at times. Mind you I wouldn't want to be on the grid.🤣 Good result second race, with your experience it's what we've come to expect 👏
I have had a look at Rennsport but was worried about jumping straight into multiplayer without having had the chance to practice and get the setup right. I have left them feedback to suggest a practicing off line mode is sorely needed as soon as possible. I am 69 years old and started Sim racing last year . I am disabled and race from my bed with all the equipment fastened to a wooden console table on wheels which rolls over the bed to give a driving position. Not being able to practice is stopping me using Rennsport as it must cause havoc on the track in multiplayer mode. I race in AC with content manager and in ACC and have just switched from single screen to a VR headset , I am highly pleased with the difference that makes . Any advice on how to get on Rennsport and avoid the possible carnage that not having a off line practice mode available. Thanks and best Wishes Brian aka g0rlbm.
Hi Brian, fair play to you, great to hear you’re enjoying sim racing. As for Rennsport, I did find an option to drive on an empty track, so I did a few laps on this before entering the race. But yeah, I couldn’t see any option of driving offline with other cars on track. Judging by the chaos in these races, there is a very broad range of abilities on track… so maybe it’s worth you trying what I did in race one. Skip qualifying, start at the back of the grid, and follow everyone else until you build up a bit of rhythm and confidence. Even by doing exactly that, I climbed from 12th to 4th in three corners! Good luck, hope you find a way to give it a try.
Haha yeah. I’m a realist… I know I’m not the fastest sim racer about, so the fact I can hop in for the first time and look like a world-beater - yeah, it’s probably to do with a lack of competition 🤣
Yeah, it was decent. Looks and sounds good, pretty easy to hop in and drive. It probably needs something to help differentiate itself from all the other titles, so it’ll be interesting to see how it develops.
Thanks mate. Yeah, I’d done a few practice laps but was expecting the online racers to be way quicker than they actually were! Thought I’d be slow, in the way and a danger if I started mid-grid. Turns out, they all found the danger just fine without me 🤣
Play iRacing rain then you’re actually not gonna see anything bc this is still fine compared to iRacing rain and then imagen if you are too far on the racing line your just gone much harder than anything you can experience in acc
Yeah, I’ve tried a few wet races in iRacing, but in open wheelers. So I found this more difficult to concentrate… having the windscreen and wipers to deal with too.
Great race and commentary as always Chris. Considering you said you normally avoid the wet weather races, you did a great job, driving sensibly and (for the most part) avoiding all the drama around you.
What a dramatic race! Got me glued until the very end. It was a demanding race indeed, and the important thing its that you have made it to the end (and with some bruises). Looking forward to see what you will bring next time! Greetings from Portugal 😎💪
I've never done any sim racing in the rain and that race is exactly why. Serious kudos for bringing it home, and in some style too after getting rammed up the jacksy early doors.
Thank you, yeah it was pretty stressful on that opening lap. Completely lost my bearings. In a strange way, the hit actually helped settle me! When I rejoined, because I was at the back, the pressure was off and I was able to find a rhythm.
