Just a quick assessment. 1. This is an AUTOMATIC 2. The Driver might have been conversant only with Manual Transmission. 3. The usual driving method for a Manual Transmission is to control some speed with the clutch & then brake. 4. So since the driver did not 'Feel' the clutch, his reaction might have been to press the empty/ dead pedal- area while trying to to be confused on braking/ clutch/ accelerator. 5. As distance and reaction time may have been too short, his ability to hit the brakes would be impaired and hence the collision. And again, just my observation that this 'could' be one of the possibilities. Anyways, the accident report to the Insurance company would have carried all these notes. If that could be accessed, it would be easier to conclude the reasons.

I used to do car sales. My colleagues customer bought a car through finance. She had insurance but she opted to not get short fall cover. Short fall is the interest the bank immediately adds on in South Africa when you sign the the contract. The problem is the added interest and as soon as the car leaves the showroom floor then it immediately depreciates in value. So two big reasons of why to choose shortfall cover. Anyway she wrote her car off two hours later. She bought a car again a month later but not a SUV. She had to buy a sedan because of the short fall cover added onto her new financed contract. We all felt really bad for her.

New drivers can get more excited in their first car and will do silly mistakes. Do keep your good friend or family who is good driver when you take delivery of your vehicle. Practice a while until your excitement level calms down and you get comfortable with your ride.

What a horrible layout for a car dealership! Who launches new cars into such an awkward & tight space-and then makes customers negotiate that difficult turn? A thoughtful dealer would have made his own staff place the new car out of the building so that customers experience a smooth start right from the beginning.

Because customers will take few hrs to develop reflexes suitable to the new car. This will take time. If the same accident happens on the road definitely someone may loose a limb or life.
