Yeah, so we actually have this thing called seismology, so we have a pretty good idea of what is under our feet. Everything in this video you should have learned in school. The "bioluminescence" portion was factually incorrect. Bioliminescence doesn't require the use of a UV light. The fact that people fall for this is just sad.

not so fun fact, the first matches used white phosphorus which is toxic and lead to many people developing phossy jaw. Diamond match company found that they could make matches with red phosphorus, which isn't toxic, thus making matches "non-poisonous" and eliminating phossy jaw. I have a box of matches here that still bear the label 'Non Poisonous" on them.

The photos of those poor souls are absolutely horrendous. Greatly reminds me of the Radium girls, who wetted the tips of their radioactive radium covered paintbrushes in their mouths to paint glow in the dark watch faces. In both instances, the bones of their lower face, teeth, and jaws were eroded and eaten away until they fell off. Such an unnecessary and painful way to die.

Another interesting fact about quinine, the reason you can still find tonic with quinine today is because that is typically how it was ingested as a medicine. Along with a bit of gin. Hence, the "gin and tonic." Today it's used for the flavor, not for its anti-malarial properties. Although it would still certainly be effective.

The scientist wo invented Sticky Notes was working on various types of adhesives. He made one that would stick, but not permanently. He walked into the office with it, and was going to throw it away, saying this adhesive was a failure, when the secretary said she wanted it. He asked what for and she said that it was perfect for putting her secretaries' notes with suggested improvements on the papers she typed for professors. Thus, Sticky Notes were born! It is not what is invented, it is finding someone who will have the perfect use for it.

It could have been calcified or he just managed to get it in That's the older style of UK socket. Its still used in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and some other nations. Also can sometimes be used as a lamp socket in the UK. The UK socket has allways been what I think to be the safest socket type in the world due to the top tip that is earth/ground being longer than the bottom pos/neg and the wall and extentions sockets have flaps that only open when the earth is in. Plus it had a fuse in the socket and on the wall it had an off switch. The US type of socket is very flimsy and you can just pull it out, plus an idiot could but a penny between the contacts. The cowdies of the UK socket is that it can be used as an are access denial weapon as it allways lands contacts up and if you think stepping on a lego is bad..... Plus it's big and we can't have those little flip recharge things built in.

I know it sounds like a joke but: I was born 3 years to the day of September 11th. It's my actual birthday and people never really take me seriously when I say that.

Lighters don't work in cold. Trying to light a candle for heat in winter stuck-in-snow car proved this one to me. Always carry a little box of matches in your car. One candle can raise car interior temp by 10 degrees.

Umm, slight problem with the "Slinky" segment. To be used as a platform for use in controlling sea motion, the "springs" would have had to be compressible to absorb the up and down motion put on them. Slinkys aren't compressible: they're already compressed when at rest. They are only extendable and their motion is the "spring" trying to compress back into it's normal state. I'd rate that particular story as a myth. The more likely one is that they were discovered while handling uncut surplus piston rings after WW2. Who knows?

The slinky dude - in the English I learnt in 1970s/80s New Zealand, he didn’t “slinked away”, (ugh to our ears!), but, “he slunk away”… very interesting stories!

Counting tree rings tells you how old the tree was when it died. That's it.

Platypus are semi aquatic and spend about 10hrs a day feeding in Rivers and the rest of their time on land in their burrows or catching some sunshine, I’m nearly 60 and have only ever seen two in a river I was swimming in that was very clear, when I was a teenager as they’re very shy and will avoid people. It was one of the coolest experiences, also I’m a city boy, so there wasn’t much chance for me to see any , except on our 3 weeks camping from Dec 26th (Boxing Day) and in our Summer, by a beautiful river in the mountains.

That story about the slinky I have heard from other sources that it was founded and invented a totally different way. Lathe operators and those who drill through metal know what I talking about. Apparently ( I forget the name ) invented it because they were inspired by the spiral thing of the remain of what comes out when drilling holes in metal or when shaving off metal when using a lathe. That curly metal remain rubbish was the inspiration for the slinky, I remember hearing or reading or watching a story about that about 20 or 30 years ago.

18:24 - You've got the location wrong on the map for the shipwreck. The map point that you have marked is around Inceburun, near Sinop, at the northernmost point of the Anatolian Peninsula. The shipwreck was found 500 miles south of there, near Kash, and the second-most-southern point on the Anatolian Peninsula. The location marked in the video for the shipwreck would have made zero sense for a voyage from Cyprus or Syria to Greece.

My guess is the rock with the plug is it's just somebody found a rock with a hole and they put a plug in it and super glued it in or something. Most likely because the person was drunk.

Hate to harsh, but the enigmalith not confirmed to exist, John J Williams isn’t officially a name on record to the rock beyond Reddit lore, and lastly, is a an older Greek pin plug. Still fun to think about.
