I have vague memory from back when I was a lad that the black rings were something to do with disease control. Back then Dutch Elm Disease was rampant and it killed a lot of Elm trees. Calling the dog on to the sofa reminded of a fellow radio ham who had a crazy Jack Russell, whenever a group of us were chatting on the radio we would take it in turns to call his dogs name and "walkies". According to his wife it was the only time she ever heard him swear. When I got a dog I was wise enough not to use that word and used something totally different. My friends would call her name and walkies and she didn't respond.

The ring around the tree might well be a method to prevent insects, that could be harmful , from climbing up; I have seen it on fruit trees down here in Cornwall.

I agree about the horse people!! Your camera issue is probably caused by the Bluetooth headset being used. Bluetooth is radio frequency I have a ham radio licence and a Bluetooth keyboard had connection issues while I use the radio!! Great video!!

So I might be wrong but when I was in college there were trees that had similar rings and it was basically like a Grease to stop pests and bugs getting into them to prevent diseases and other problems

bit of bike and some flying would be good, as for the trees, they have the same in Clumber Park, lime trees, with the ring painted on, to protect them from something, being old, hee hee, I forget what!!!!!

Let your turbo diesel idle for a minute before switching off to let the turbo slow down and cool a little with an oil feed. Start stop tech will be the death of turbos.

All prices have gone up bug time over the last 2 years. If multiple people tell you are cheap then you are mega cheap! Put your prices up 10 to 20%. Bank of England have a good inflation calculator - You put in your price and the year you first charged that price and it tells you how much it should be in 2024! Very interesting. Nice tips. RAC, AA break down only don't cover accidents ,will charge extra and if your cars mot has run out they won,t collect you either

Tbh pal I've always said to people AA and RAC membership is not worth it your spend a lot more for nothing in the long run ....but I do understand that for some people it's easier as they don't normally have the money to pay outright for a recovery up front it's a catch 22 for some people

Being a great price is what keeps us busy my recovery brother. If you price to high younger parked up more.

Definitely with you on sticking with slightly older cars, modern cars are so techy an I hate it. My astra currenlty needs a new rear fuse box which is super cheap, an literally just one bolt to undo to replace it, super easy, however i would then need it to be pin-coded in to match the ecu an thats gona be another £150 for someone with the specific tech program to do it. Older is better 👍

Horse people are notoriously tight/hard. Keep the old recovery gear as long as possible, I have a mate who is REME reserve, they got rid of the Fodens and Scammel kit, replaced by bright shiney MAN recovery waggons. All well until in extreme conditions ( when you really really need them) and if you push outside the preprogrammed boundaries computer says NIEN Danke and your screwed! Just saying more sofisticated but worse off. Mind you when you are forced to go EV you will be well and truly screwed!!!!!

Many new vehicles have pre manufactured design faults to reduce the longevity of the engine or its components, as we are a throw away / nothing meant to last like it used too, or made too costly to repair / end up as salvage / wrote off or scrapped. Any content Ben is good content. Whatever you’re doing keep us involved / entertained. I think you should increase your prices, when I was self employed, I always asked customers if they’d had other quotes or a budget in mind. Safe to say I was undercutting most other so called proffessionals in my desired fields, just unfortunate covid & then I guess a so called recession / fuel costs, heating costs, insurances etc all increased more then my income. Meaning I went back to being employed. That didn’t last long as I’ve spent more time being signed off sick with stress depression & anxiety. Your videos help motivate me, and yes every now & then we all have take some time just thinking there alway other people worse off then ourselves. Daniel.

A tip every video would be helpful never know when you might need it , a flying and bike video would be good mix it up a bit

I would love to see more flying videos, maybe fly to spend the day with your daughter🤔 Pricing can be an awkward thing to work out as you don't want to feel like you are overcharging but also don't want to look like you are desperate for work and doing it cheap. Price how you feel is right for you. Thats the downside of being a nice genuine guy, you can't rip people off like some other recovery companies. Keep up the great work👍

Try bikes and flying, see what works, anything you do out of the ordinary, try it, who knows really what will work. Prices should just be what you can afford to charge, stay comfortable and you can be happy you're not crippling someone who is broke like the big firms don't care about. Lovely sunset to end 👊

Not sure I agree on the oil pressure / rpm thing, vast majority of engines hit full oil pressure not far above idle, even when pretty old & worn, after that any extra gets dumped via a pressure relief valve.

ben i dont see your logic on the engine rpm's , the faster the engine goes the hotter it gets , the oil and water pumps havd to work harder to push more volume through the same portings . Trucks have multiple gears to keep the engine speed as low as possible to stay in the high torque band and they can cover a million kilometres . Regular oil and fiter changes are the key factor in engine longevity.
