This is what I gathered from all my research today: Prior to 2007, X-terminator and A2230 were different powders. Very old load data with older cartridges will verify this. That was post Ramshot acquisition of Accurate. They then moved production to Belgium. In January 2016 they moved the production of 2230 to St Marks here in Florida. X-terminator is still made in Belgium. X-terminator has the same geometry as before but also has a de-coppering agent now. 2230 has new geometry and an additive that reduces temperature sensitivity.

I know that Accurate 2230 is made here in the US at St Marks, however I must admit that I have not looked into X-Terminator at this point in time. Hopefully in the future we'll do a video on that and dive deeper into it's history and where it comes from etc. Thanks for sharing though I feel it adds a lot of value to the comments section. --Jeremiah

Might be interesting to do a video on the history of the various manufacturers, with a timeline. For instance, Bullseye and Unique and the Hercules company from the black powder era until the present. Perhaps an accompanying column in Handloader . Call it Wipe off the Dust. Lol Subscriber since 1978 BTW.
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV Год назад
That would be really neat, we covered a little bit of the accurate history in our first episode of propellant profiles on Accurate No. 7 but sadly much of the history of these companies is lost to time. They did not heavily advertise where the powders were made way back then. Thank you very much for the feedback and the suggestion it helps us know what folks are interested in. Thank you for subscribing and all the support over the years we couldn't do it without good folks like you! --Jeremiah

4198 and 4895, both the IMR and Hodgdon varieties, please! (Unless they're the same). Also, some of the stated velocities are vastly different velocities shown in the table. A .45-70 at 2700+ fps is a scary thought! Good to see you are putting out the videos again. Christmas time must be over.
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV Год назад
We can absolutely do something on those powders, IMR-4895 and H-4895 are not the same but are similar. Indeed I have noticed that, it is a simple typo sadly it was supposed to state 1,724 FPS not the 2,724 FPS. Everything else is correct charge weights and what not. I even state the correct velocity. For how much time I spend reviewing these things you would think I would have caught that sadly I am not perfect that is something that will bother me for a long time! Christmas is over and it has sadly taken me this long to get caught up on the comments. We try to publish a new video every 2 weeks give or take a day or two. A lot of the videos are from our World War II series and then we'll do another video on powder or load development or something like that. 6mm Creedmoor is next in the works and should be up in about 3 weeks give or take. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah

2230 I'm going to have try that in my 223 bolt rifle! 40gr V-max 27grs. 3800fps. that's moving!! Prairie dogs go pop ay those speeds!!! I only started using Accurate powders this year because I couldn't find some of the Hodgdon powders! 2215 2200 the only ones so far. Thanks for the video!!!

I have a specitly load video already planned out for the .223 Rem/5.56 Nato but I sadly have not gotten around to doing it yet hopefully this year if everything goes right. Finding the right bullet can be a challenge though. This is a great powder as well though and certainly has it's applications in .223 as well. Thanks for watching! --Jeremiah

I remember reading about that powder while studying for this powder if I recall correctly it was about 4% faster than standard 2230. You make the point that AA2230 can be used in a variety of cartridges, which is great. You sort of touch, on how, in one cartridge it performs better with lighter bullets. That is some thing I try to stress, when people ask what powder should I buy? Read the manuals, research as much data as you can, with the bullet weight you want to use, along with alternate bullet weights for that cartridge, and do the same, with any secondary cartridges/guns you may possibly choose to use it in as well. Sometimes it works well in 1 or two, sometimes 3-4, in some only with lighter bullets, in some only with heavier bullets, some with every weight of bullet for that cartridge. That subject alone is worth doing a show on, to teach people how to research a powder before buying, and in some cases, a bullet. It can prevent buying stuff that isn't optimum, or help to buy stuff that is optimum and versatile. Propellant profiles can become a good tool in itself, to help promote the way to research powders and bullets.
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV 7 месяцев назад
Indeed that is a very good point to make, and it's hard to cover every aspect of the powder in a single video but that is something perhaps we should touch on more as we continue to release videos in this series. It also really comes down to the individuals needs is he looking for the most accuracy or velocity or combination of the two so on and so forth. There is so much information that is simply lacking or not quite true when it comes to reloading we would love to cover more of that in the future especially as the channel grows and gets larger. Thanks so much for the feedback we greatly appreciate it and thanks for watching and commenting! -Jeremiah

More people need to watch these videos... perhaps if they were actually reloading ammo they would get more views ..or with a Satterlee test and load development with a particular Caliber....
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV 4 месяца назад
We agree in full and we appreciate the feedback we have a how to reload video called Handloading 101 where we reload from start to finish and showcase the entire process. We detail the process in nearly every one of our load development videos. I do have plans to share some load development methods we use regularly but they will stir up a lot of controversy I will say we do not use the satterlee 10 shot load development method for anything. Perhaps that is something we should try to do this year. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah

I have used 2230 for a wide variety of 5.56 loads. But for the heavies...77 and 75 grain...I used 2460 and got good velocities duplicating the military load. My MK262 duplication loads were on point for velocity without any unusual pressure signs. But without a pressure barrel/tester, who really knows?
@DominicZelenak
@DominicZelenak Год назад
I've been looking at 2460 recently; thinking about buying a couple pounds to experiment with. I get good results with 24.1gr AA 2520 and 22.9gr H335 with the 75 gr bthp. My thought is either 2460 or Tac will be a good "in-between" option to round things out. What do you think?

Are Magnum Primers needed for Small pistol and Large Pistol reloads
@HandloaderTV
@HandloaderTV 3 месяца назад
Not generally speaking no, there are a few exceptions for this but most handgun cartridges don't need magnum primers and usually it is the propellant type and charge weight that will dictate this. We talk about this frequently in Handloader magazine what primers pair best with what powders and cartridges. Great question thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah
