I have just started loading the 75 gr. Hornady HPBT with I-4895 23.5 gr. powder. Shooting out of 18" 1-8 twist. Awesome it is!

Great job dude, I was noticing the editing was really good on this video I like the double screen views and text on screen. It’s very well done

Thanks, It takes about 30-45 Minutes to edit a video like this. Unedited this video would be 30+ minutes, to long to keep peoples attention. I loaded a few more with this powder going a little hotter. I think it will start grouping a little better when I it get above 3000 fps.

I’ve been using this powder in a 16 inch A.R. 15 with 69 Grain Sierra Match king with 23.5 grains I’m getting an average of 2750 ft./s and my groups measure about .3 inches and is one of the best powders I have found for the heavier bullet don’t give up on it

My Axis 2 223 loves 4064 powder and shoots .4 MOA with 55g SP or FMJ. Free floating barrel and accutrigger. UMC bulk 55g gives similar groups to yours.

I noticed that my savage loves 69 grain smk federal gold match. At 200 meters "220" yards 1.5 inch 5 shots. I could not reach that with any of the hand loads. I did mounted axis to MDT chassis. Left original trigger.

243 ODT's that was pretty tight group with the 73 Gr ELD with 22.7 grains of A2230. From what I've seen Hornady makes their bullets long. Hornady's 68 Gr BTHP Match is longer than Sierra's 69 Gr BTHP Matchking. My Savage model 12 has a 9 twist with a 26 inch barrel, with the Sierra 77 Gr BTHP Matchking made a group that could be covered with a dime.

We had a nice day Saturday, but the last couple not so much. Spring's around the corner....I hope.

I will be trying those 73gr ELDs this spring...I have a 26” 1:9 barrel so I hope they stabilize. If not I got lots of Sierra 69gr TMKs to test :)
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 6 лет назад
I think the will stabilize fine, and the 26" barrel will definitely help. I may look in to something like the 69's. I haven't got the results I have been wanting with the 73's.

You've probably learned this by now, but the difference in velocities isn't from variations in powder charge weight.

I have a gallon Jar of AA 2230-S Powder, Which is no longer made by AA The Tec Rep at AA told me to use this Powder in the 223 and the Win 308, That what the regular AA2230 Loading is,? This Powder must be reduced down by 4 %, Because it is 4 % faster than the regular AA2230 Powder, So I am going to make up loads for my Rem 223 using the 55 GR Hornady V Max Bullets etc.

I have tried Varget, CFE223, Ramshot Xterminator, and Shooters World Rifle Match with the 73gr ELD_M and still not seeing any impressive (sub MOA) groups with them out of my 20" AR. I can shoot 69gr and 77gr SMK at .5" all day long but, these 73gr ELD-Ms dont wanna group with what I tried to far. I have been told by someone at Hornady that these should not be shot real long in COL. I load for magazine length anyways so there is no way I can do 2.270".... maybe shorten yours up a tad and see if it helps?

I pretty much gave up on these. I think it's more of a twist issue for me. I sent the remaining bullets to West Desert Shooter. I did pick up some 68g match. They seem much better.

Is your rifle bedded ? It looks like it shoots tighter when warmed up.

what is a standard deviation and how do u arrive at that number?
@243Outdoors
@243Outdoors 5 лет назад
On a chronograph it records our velocities and gives us the Average, Extreme Spread, Hi, Low, and Standard Deviation. The first four are pretty self explanatory. The SD with out getting to math technical, tells us how consistent the load is. Think of it as the average distance from the average velocity. Generally an SD of under 10 is considered great. 10-20 is acceptable and any thing above that could use improvement. With that being said you can have great groups with a high SD and crappy groups with a low SD. Where this comes into play is at longer distances. If you have a great shooting group at 100 yards with a high SD, at 1000 yards because of the inconsistency of velocity your are going to have high shot and low shots.

What was your OAL?
@alexduke5402
@alexduke5402 3 года назад
According to the hornady reloading book oal should be 2.20 for .223 I've loaded some of the 2230 to spec what they recommend min-max charge and it is no where near as hot as the factory 69smk I shoot ground hogs with. I don't have a Chrono I'm just getting into this. Been loading shot shells since I was a kid loading for my dad but I'm new to rifle& handgun.
