also every witness would be under arrest for perjury because everyone in ace attorney is a chronic liar

It depends on each game how much perjury is taken seriously so they seem to get adjusted over time, and in Versus it seems to be taken very seriously.

@@theoriginalcatfishConsidering that Versus was created by two different developers, I’d say that Ace Attorney’s creators completely forgot about perjury and Professor Layton’s creators had to remind them. Then they proceeded to forget in any future games…

Tried this, got kicked out and then reinvited for some reason? Like who kicks someone out of their house and then invites them because they were kicked out? They said something about trespassing being illegal or something but I kinda just ignored them. My verdict is coming in the next few minutes wish me luck.

Given that Ace Attorney is not only a parody of the Japanese legal system (which itself has a confirmed 99% conviction rate), it scares me to think that part of Ace Attorney is, in a sense, realistic.
@somethingAccurate
@somethingAccurate 3 месяца назад
It's not. It's a parody of legal systems in general, moreso. It being cited of a parody of *Japanese* legal system seems to be a widespread misunderstanding.
@senkosocool
@senkosocool 3 месяца назад
@@somethingAccuratewhile the creator didn't do a lot of significant research into the Japanese law system before making the game, it is nevertheless likely still a parody of Japan specifically due to their abnormal 99.9% conviction rate, as well as the abnormally short period of time that most Japanese court proceedings are usually given. I guess you're right in the sense that it *could* be a parody of any legal system since the theme of "guilty until proven innocent" is universally desirable and the laws are not exactly aligned with Japanese laws, but I don't think that detracts from it being specifically a work of Japanese legal parody originally. This is also supported by AA:AJ, wherein the new jury system implemented in the final case reflects a very similar juror system being implemented in Japan at approximately the same time as the game's release.

Honestly, if those cases were realistic, the cases would be like half as long as they are nowadays let's be honest. Proving Maya not guilty 4 freakin times just for the prosecution to say "who did it then" gets that adrenaline pumping.

Apollo: As you can see, over the last 45 minutes, I have proven without a shadow of a doubt that my client is innocent. Judge: I agree, the client is- OBJECTION Klavier: Ha ha ha....not so fast....You haven't considered this evidence which has literally never been introduced until this point and has not been seen by the defence. Judge: Wow, my opinion has entirely changed in the last 10 seconds. GUILTY

@@claudetheclaudeqc6600 If you're talking about the AMERICAN legal system. While I don't know how accurate it is, the AA games were made as a bit of a mockery to the Japanese legal system, where the rules of evidence may very well be like this. From what I've read, Japan has like a 95% conviction rate because lawyers only take cases they believe they can win, so possibly minus the corruption, it seems like a 40-year win streak wouldn't be uncommon for prosecutors.

@@skazzuie on the bright side, the country is highly safe. Local police knows everything happening in their areas and always have a "list" of suspected people. If anything happens, just search on the list. Some international criminals who were able to hide from Interpol got captured in Vietnam, by local police. In one case, just hearing some noise in the background, the police deduced the position.

You know the reason why "real life law" parodies never work here? It's because it's impossible to tell. It's a Japanese game that's a parody of Japanese court situation from years ago (and thus, Japanese law) that's been translated to an CALIFRONIAN AMERICAN law and it's played by worldwide audience. My case? I'm an European. If it's not either the law of my country nor European Union I have no idea how can it work outside and if it's a parody, it works that way, it doesn't or whatever. The case I'm trying to say is I'm spewing words from my keyboard. (And that maybe...there really are countries out there in which defense attornies work that way?)

There’s no court that works this way. Defense attorneys aren’t detectives they are tasked with getting a not guilty in any sane court
@Door3234

dude, the creator of the game barely knew anything about court proceedings he just did things to make the game fun, it was in no way a parody until the 4th game with the jurist system, as you must know how something works to actually make a parody

I see a lot of comments pointing out how unrealistic it Is, which (imo) is hilarious My question is: does it have to be realistic? I sit down and genuenly enjoy the games without thinking: "yup that's exactly how it works" I know it doesn't. The way the game portrays these cases makes it interesting. there's certain things you don't question untill after. I got into the franchise through the anime... Which was dogsh*t (imo). And that makes sense cuz... You can't anime this without it being weird xD. But playing the same cases in the game is a completely different experience. And hooked me immediately.

@@justanotherguy1122 and they didnt start trusting it after 1-4? Logically, the victim fell unconscious before being killed by manfred, explaining why gregory blamed yanni yogi, and since Phoenix proved that manfred killed gregory after everybody else fell unconscious, they should start trusting spirit mediums again, because the dl-6 incident was simply an error, they should learn that there are cases where the victims couldnt see the killer nor know what happened, and that while the victim's testimony CAN be unreliable, they could be helpful for the investigations, so i feel like channeling would be used as a way to find more info, the most likely culprits would become the main suspects while defendants like Maya and so on end up having a better time during these trials.
