One thing I noticed about Gumshoe in this game is that he is not depicted as much of a bumbling oaf as he was in the first AAI. It might have to do with the translation, but it's nice to see a competent Gumshoe.
@craque_victor

The Local Gnome (5 years later lol) Gumshoe has a mini-arc of his own in AAI2, centered around “what it means to be a detective” and inheriting Det. Badd’s spirit. ultimately, it ends with him getting a raise. I don’t think it’s the translation, the writers themselves intended this

That ending brought tears to my eyes. I just knew that the picture of mr. Shields and Miles would pop up somewhere. It resembled the one with Gregory perfectly urgh. They both had such different personalities yet they were the same. What Gregory said before Ray wanted to make the picture was something like "Sure why not. I'm confident in my hairstyle today," Laughed at that hahahha XD and Miles just acted like he always does yet they end up being caught on camera exactly the same. Urghh even though it's a game.. The more you get to know about the characters the deeper your feelings will go. As cruel and inhuman Gustavia was, you had to admit Dover asked for it for being such a greedy, selfish man. He couldn't even give Gustavia the chance of curing his disease. He had to blackmail him also. I feel so sorry for Kate. All she tried to do to get her foster daddy out of jail. Also, I was rather disappointed about not finding out about Gustavia and Dover's sons. As for me, i think that Gustavia is actually suffered a personality disorder due to a concussion. Yeah, he never was a "great" human being, but he loved his son and he was pretty passionate about his art. But them Dover made him hit his head after humiliating him, and trauma was severe enough to cause a bloodstain. No matter how you look at it, it's a HIGH chance that Gustavia just became worse as a person after suffering a strong hit to his head.

When you really think about it, dane gustavia is responsible for everything wrong in the ace attorney universe.if he hadnt commited this crime, gregory edgeworth wouldnt have been killed by von karma, misty fey wouldn't have had to run away and miles would be a defense attorney.
@Mycroft616
@Mycroft616 10 лет назад
But should you confront him with this detail, he'll accept no responsibility. He'd say that it only grew to such proportions because Kate found the body prematurely due to Delicia's affectionate confectionery nibbling, the underhanded methods used by von Karma and Hammond to maintain their victories, and Edgeworth's own pain for straying from his father's path. And let's be realistic, he's only wrong about Delicia and Kate.
@zorquil
@zorquil 10 лет назад
But then... If this crime wasn't committed, then Phoenix Wright may not have become a defense attorney. Then Dahlia Hawthorne would be getting away with her crimes and still be alive. And that means Prosecutor Godot wouldn't exist. Mia wouldn't be a defense attorney since Misty Fey didn't have to run away. It would definitely change the way Ace Attorney played out.
@Mycroft616
@Mycroft616 10 лет назад
***** The first game contradicts you at every turn. It was made very clear over the course of it that Mia's lone motive for becoming a defense attorney was to learn the intricate details concerning her mother's disappearance, something that only occurred because of this case that united Edgeworth and von Karma. While it is true she unquestionably would have abandoned the clan's tradition of spirit channeling to preserve her relationship with Maya, the exact shape of her future was only molded because of DL-6. Furthermore, in Turnabout Goodbyes, Phoenix admits that the major reason he began to minor in legal studies is because Edgeworth became a prosecutor. While that incident from school did shape his feelings towards defense attorneys, it was only because 20 year old Edgeworth was such a stark contrast to 9 year old Edgeworth that Phoenix chose to go in pursuit of Edgeworth to understand what happened, and it was in response to the cold shoulder that Phoenix decided to stand against Edgeworth in court and force a confrontation. Now, it is likely Dahlia wouldn't have been unmasked during the trial for Valerie Hawthorne's murder without Mia Fey, and thus never would have been accused of the murder, never would have been placed under investigation following the trial, never would have had a motive to kill Diego Armando, never would have noticed Doug Swallow, never would have noticed Phoenix Wright, and never would have had a motive to kill Phoenix or Doug. However, the murder of Valerie Hawthorne was a separate incident that only by chance became connected to Diego, Doug, and Phoenix. As such, Dahlia would still perpetrate at least one murder, maybe two if she pushed Terry Fawles the right way. And with a personality like hers, there's no way the body count would stop there, even if we dismiss the tensions between Morgan and Misty.
@Mycroft616
@Mycroft616 10 лет назад
***** That quote, really? First of all, that means Mia had already chosen law and makes no reference to a motive of why. Second of all, notice how Maya makes no reference to the animosity between her mother and aunt, Mia's motive for taking a different path in the first place. That quote already disqualifies itself. It may have been in T&T, but Mia clearly stated her motive in choosing law was DL-6. If Edgeworth and Phoenix continued bonding, Edgeworth would disclose his suspicions that Larry was the thief once their bond peaked and Edgeworth could no longer bear to have his friend lied to by Larry or harmed by his own silence. What did Phoenix say would happen if he knew about Larry's theft at a younger age? And that's assuming that such guilt doesn't drive Edgeworth to continue his silence until he wedges himself out their trio. Should that happen, Edgeworth still fails to raise Phoenix, and now that Edgeworth fails to be a contradiction, Phoenix has less motive to meet him in the courtroom. Either way, Phoenix doesn't stand as a defense attorney. And Dahlia, really? Her father left Morgan due to Misty's greater power making hers the main family and causing Morgan to become a worthless branch family. It had nothing to do with DL-6, Morgan lost her honor well before. Dahlia would still become a Hawthorne, still carry out the fake kidnapping, and still perpetrate the murder of Valerie while being in a position to murder Terry.
@Mycroft616
@Mycroft616 10 лет назад
***** I'm going to break this down as much as I can: Mia said it was for her career. That means she already chose her career. It does not explain why she chose that career. So it does not show motive for her choice. Do you understand why that quote proves nothing? And I said quite clearly that it could have been in T&T where it was established that Mia made this choice for Misty, not for a random reason. You've continuously said there was more to her motive, which is wrong. Are you high? The end to Turnabout Goodbyes shows Edgeworth telling Wright and explaining how he had suspected as much for 15 years. Larry may have initiated the conversation, but even the jaded Edgeworth had conscience enough to restrict evidence tampering to rhetorical tricks instead of going all the way to forging it. You really think the empathetic one wouldn't have felt bad about keeping a secret from someone who considers him a best friend? And really, you completely ignored my question, so allow me to answer it: Phoenix said quite clearly that if he knew at younger age that Larry had stolen the money and left him to take the fall, he would have become a prosecutor. Not a defense attorney. The only way that doesn't happen is if he chooses to still carry that secret, which for an empathetic Edgeworth would erect a wall between him and Phoenix, eradicating all reason for Phoenix to become involved in law. The shame on Morgan's family began with the choice of Misty. She lost all opportunity well before the disgrace to the whole family. If DL-6 played any role, it only expedited the inevitable. Dahlia was forever relegated to the Hawthorne family. And you're really assuming she was nurtured into a sociopath? Even if she stayed behind, being a member of the worthless branch family would still lead to the deaths of Mia, Maya, and perhaps even Pearl. Convict von Karma? Of what? If this case hadn't happened, von Karma would have been able to maintain better control over his witnesses and evidence and never would have perpetrated a murder. Even in this case, he was only busted for a coerced confession, not a forged autopsy - and coercing confessions is not criminal. Phoenix himself never got von Karma on tampering with evidence. The Smuggling Ring? Doubtful. Following the KG-8 Incident, Calisto Yew was sent to keep tabs on the two most prominent threats (Badd and Faraday), and that duty only ceased when she was made thanks to Edgeworth. No Edgeworth means she continues monitoring Badd directly, keeping him behind while eventually acquiring the tape and card, as well as identifying these new threats you propose even before they ally with Badd. Could someone else have achieved Edgeworth's result in that case? Maybe, but I doubt it. Blaise? As if. Simon initiated his fall only due to this incident. Without it, the only crimes Blaise has is selling evidence and The SS-5 Incident. However, everyone was blind to the former, and no one even knew the truth behind the second. Without the former, only Courtney would have been involved in trying to reopen the SS-5 Incident. Unless she succeeds, the fake Huang remains in power, and regardless Dogen would have been killed. The only bits of trauma from the original trilogy that weren't influenced by this were Turnabout Samurai, most of JFA, and The Stolen Turnabout. Rise From the Ashes - whose moniker is debatable - would have played much the same way. Beyond that it's divided. While most of the cases from AJ and DD would remain untouched, the life of Trucy is altered by Phoenix's involvement, the identity of the Chief Prosecutor changes, and whether or not Themis reaches the point where a murder occurs becomes debatable without Phoenix initiating the first step in The Dark Age of Law. Even most of the first AAI could have been avoided, given that the first three cases only reached a level requiring activity due to Edgeworth's involvement in the fourth and the unlikelihood of someone filling his role to such a level. The fifth still would have happened, but the group would have minimal motive to get involved in it beforehand, and would have no ability to get in afterwards since their authority would be halted at the border - the only hope there is Badd, Gumshoe, and Kay.

Just think, if Dover and Gustavia hadn't teamed up to enter the contest, or at the least if their sons weren't at the same school, this entire series would have been totally different. But would it be better? I mean I understand that a lot of people would still be alive and the Fey clan would be fine but... I mean, Manfred von Karma would still be alive and prosecuting, as it was this case that ultimately led to his downfall. Franziska would likely be even more cold and distant than she was when we met her because she didn't have her rather beloved brother around, and Kay's father's killer would never have been found to name a few things. In fact, all the cases Edgeworth solves in the first Investigations game would *never* have been resolved because he wouldn't be there to deduce the truth. He wouldn't know Kay (which I know some of you will count as a good thing because you hate Kay), he wouldn't be close with Gumshoe, he wouldn't be close to Franziska, either, which I already mentioned would change her completely, as she cares very much about him; he's her one and only brother, after all. That said... Justine really is an idiot if she finds Manfred's evidence forgery shocking. Like, at all.

-MISSING- I wouldn't mind slash fangirls if they wouldn't demonise female characters like they do, actually be more open about other ships, have more variety in their ships so not everything is guy/guy and occasionally girl/girl (this latter bit is often just to get the women out of the way), and most important of all, stop treating homosexuality as a _fetish_. I've been thoroughly put off from slash ships on the basis that whenever I ask why they like a certain pairing, the most common reply is "cuz it's hot!" (or if I ask why all their ships are guy/guy, every single solitary time the reply is "you just answered your own question"). They rarely explain themselves past that and treat me like an idiot for not understanding the supposed hotness of two guys (this being because it's no different to me than a guy and a girl or two girls). So often has this happened that I just don't trust people who ship this way on principle as being little more than people who treat it as a fetish. More than half my AA ships consist of characters that haven't even _met_ (Apollo/Franziska, for instance), which is often seen as arguably worse because I have no basis. However, I at least have a good reason why I think they'd make a good match, or at least, if not a good reason, I bother to explain my thinking past "it's sexy". For (part of) my reasoning behind the aforementioned "what are you thinking?!" ship: I think what makes Apollo good for Franziska is his demeanour, his age, their similar heights, his perception, and the fact that he is a defence attorney. Apollo is mostly very easygoing, he's got a good grasp on his feelings, and he's got a high level of patience. He's a process thinker, unlike his boss and co-worker who both leap to conclusions. He's younger than her and roughly her height (being actually shorter when she's wearing her heels) which suits her dominant personality- I can't see her liking someone noticeably taller than her because she doesn't like to be seen as beneath people and her height seems to be a touchy subject. She's 5'3" and he's barely 5'5". Further, I think his perception would be a puzzle she could never solve; it's not something she can research the way Zak talks about it. Something to keep her interest as she tries to figure it out. I think this is what would draw her to him in the first place. And lastly, he's a defence attorney, something she's still struggling to see in a good light. Considering Apollo's personality, he's just the person she needs to indefinitely prove her wrong about them because they both have the same unique view of justice: that the _truth_ matters, the truth is what his right, not the defence or the prosecution. They're the only characters to express this thought process to an extent they're willing to concede a friend could be a killer. Both of them I think would end up learning together how romance works, as Apollo seems to avoid feeling a lot of emotions and Franziska seems to just not understand hers at all. However I also concede they have their downsides. For one, I think Franziska would want to keep their relationship a secret, something Apollo wouldn't like doing after a while (though fine at first because he knows perfectly well his coworkers will just tease him). I think 18 years, her wentire life until case 2-4, of thinking defence attorneys are villains who defend guilty people isn't going to go away in even just 10 years, and she won't want people to know she's got feelings for one. I think this would strain their relationship and put emotional strain on them both, especially Franziska. I think they'd fight a lot, but mostly about things unrelated to their relationship. However, I consider it part of her growing and learning to be more accepting and open as she starts to embrace her feelings for him, rather than be unnerved and afraid of them. Apollo for his part doesn't get much like this out of this relationship, as Apollo doesn't need to grow and change as much as she does. He's already quite mature. I don't see them as a fairytale couple where everything works out perfectly from the start like people tend to ship (though I do have a ship like this in Clay/Juniper). But I'm digressing on an unrelated topic. The point I suppose is I don't even get a fraction of what I just explained from people who slash-ship. Just them telling me "it's obvious he's/they're gay", "it's hot/sexy!", "your a homophobe if you don't ship it", "you just answered your own question", "well cuz look how they talk to each other they totally want each other", etc. Vague things.

I realize this is a game, but it's still got a life lesson right there... Gustavia got caught because he confessed everything openly. If he'd kept his mouth shut (and you can do that IRL by the way, you can refuse to testify if that means incriminating yourself!) he might have gotten off scot free. That's why you should not talk to the police or any legal force without your lawyer present, even if you are innocent. ESPECIALLY if you are innocent.

All things considered, I do find Gustavia to be really interesting in this case. It was all supposed to go so simply for him, but in the end, everything spiralled way too far out of control when one thing lead to another. Got a taste disorder? Need to enter a contest for a rare recipe. Want to win it and collaborate with someone? Stabbed in the back. Tried to attack them? Threatened with blackmail. Trying to pin the murder on someone he hates? They accidentally ended up pinning it on someone he respected. This should have gone so simple, which makes it all the more tragic.

like 80% of the major suffering in the Ace Attorney series can all be traced back to Issac Dover deciding to betray Gustavia. Had he not done that, and not prompted his own murder, Gregory Edgeworth would not have faced Von Karma in court, Von Karma and gotten him his first penalty and killed Gregory Edgeworth, Miles would not have been orphaned or adopted by Von Karma, nor would he have disappeared from Phoenix's life, Misty Fey would not have been asked to channel Gregory's spirt, Grossberg would not have told Redd White about it and wouldn't be blackmailed, Mia would not leave home to find her mother nor become an attorney, Mellissa Foster would've never been fingered as Valery Hawthorne's true killer or outted as Dalilah Hawthorne, she would've had no reason to poison Diego Armando, and thus never have any poison to hide with Phoenix and nothing to get back from him, so she would've never tried to kill him and never prompt Doug to take any action, Phoenix never would've been accused of murder and never become an attorney, Redd White would've had nobody on his tail and no reason to kill Mia Fey or frame Maya fey, Von Karma would've had no reason to frame Miles for murder, Yonni Yogi would've never been accused of Gregory's murder and had no vendetta, Maya would've never been kidnapped to force Phoenix to defend Matt Engarde, Morgan Fey would've had none of the same opportunities, needing to get rid of Misty and Mia before ever coming after Maya, maybe not even bothering and not going to prison, not enacting her plan to have Peral channel Dalilah, Godot would've never become a prosecutor, Phoenix would've never taken the Garmaye job from Kristoph, so Kristoph would've never resorted to framing him for forgery and possibly not bringing in the "dark age of the law", also no need to kill Shady Smith or poison either Misham, Apollo would've never had to send his own boss to jail, and Trucy would've never been held hostage by Aura Blackquill.

We all know Gustavia is certainly a despicable, inhumane father. But can you actually blame him? He joined the contest in order to win the Angle's Recipe to only cure his taste disorder. What's wrong about that? Sure, he cheated by collaberating with Dover. But this is a man who had an actual goal, to become the worlds greatest pastry chef. He respected Jeff Master and take pride in his work. In the end he was a tragic person. Betrayed by his close friend, his son didn't show up, it was curtains for Gustavia. Dover was a greedy, treacherous, demanding bastard, he even exposed Gustavia and attacked first. So can we really blame Gustavia? However from that moment, Gustavia felt betrayed by everyone and decided to rely on no one besides himself. And so on he developed his plan to hide the body and conceal and destroy all the evidence and clues to blame Delicia Scone who he thought a stupid woman who disgraced desserts and pastries. But in the end, he turned into a despicable, selfish man... The real fault at this is ISAAC DOVER!
@Oscarus4250

There is practically no room for doubt... However... A murder is a murder - and nothing can change it In addition, this wasn't accidental one... Only planned (at last second, but still) If Gustavia just had said to the others that he accidentally killed Dover/Hoquet in self-defense... Jeff Master wouldn't have landed in a prison, and the penalty would have been lower (but... when I type this... I think it wouldn't have been an easy task due to centrain cheating prosecutor) Also there is a high chance of Gregory's survival, Simon and Horace being even before Dogen would take them with himself (which was a very nice of him, despite being a professional assassin... but we know that they are often more honorable and goot at heart that most of AA culprits), etc. It is truth that there would be a twist in time and space... Miles being a lawyer just like father, Phoenix would be either an artist or a attorney (that depends on how his story would go on) etc.... But who would care, right?

I get it that Masters being declared guilty of being an accomplice got them another year, but hey, couldn't they exploit the day the trial ended to show this year? I mean, while the murder of Gregory occurred on December 25, yet the statute of limitations was to run out at December 28 due to it being the day the verdict of Yogi was handed down. With that alone, they could get more time to try and use the statute of limitations.

@alanl7048
@alanl7048 10 лет назад
To prevent a trial/case from lasting too long. If there were no limitations, let me give you some examples, evidence could be forged, the case could reopen and close at will with either new, old, or forged evidence being presented, thus having a never ending trial (possibly keeping an innocent defendant waiting for his just declaration of innocence), or an unjust punishment.
@leonkennedy5091
@leonkennedy5091 10 лет назад
Alan Linville To add on as a good example for this would be the McMartin preschool trial, where the trial lasted over 7 years, costed 15 million dollars in tax payer money, and was mainly based off the testimony off of kids who 6 years old at the time of the crime, a whole lot pseudo-science, and some perjury from the prosecution. Worst of all, however, is that the defendant was declared not guilty, so the whole thing was just a giant waste of time.
