The first half of this mission is the only time you get to fly a level bomber. The short amount of time you get to use it is pretty fun.
I swear I always manage to fuck up the inbound flight at least once. It does show how forgiving AH is though when it comes to ground collisions, especially when compared to older Ace Combats.
This is literally the first time I've actually died during the bombing run; I guess I didn't hit my flares fast enough. I also fail the mission because I accidentally miss a missile silo, whoops. Unrelated but the B-1 bomber actually eject flares upward in real life instead of how it does in game, MY IMMERSION!
The actual ICBM itself is a giant asshole and I usually die to it at least once (in fact I'm surprised I only died once). The best way to take care of it is to bring a plane that has 4AAMs or 6AAMs and just salvo it while keeping as far back from it as possible. Generally just trying to use your regular missiles will get you roasted.
