Ace said, "I like to pay the rent"....Well, that's all he could do, after he left KISS. Poor album sales, and not a single stadium show. First of all, he would never be able to pack a venue, that holds 30 thousand people. Secondly, back than, he was so fucked up, that no promoter in their right mind would book a longer tour with him. No one wanted to take a chance, booking a venue, selling tickets for the show and this loser not showing up. Instead laying on some couch all fucked up. After KISS the dude became obsolete.
To the people mocking Ace Frehley . . . hey ..., go and get stuffed ! Ace is cool here and makes a valid point . . ... I also agree with the host Morton Downey Jnr at the 4:00 minute mark by saying "I have to wear this jacket and I don't like wearing jackets." This is great history in the, then, ultra-conservative Reaganist United States.
And don't you know who Ace Frehley is Ace Frehley will kick all their asses Ace Frehley New York gang New York gang know what that means he is a tough guy you don't talk s*** he'll knock you out now that's Ace respect the man
New York Groove was added by the album producer Eddie Kramer. New York Groove is great pop rock ! Paul Stanley was obviously jealous and wrote I was Made for Lovin' You which was way poppier and almost disco. KISS truly ruled the world . . . temporarily as it tiuns out . . .andreleased the mega-selling album Dymasty. Ace's had THE BEST songs on his solo album; the best songs on Dynasty and the woeful Unmasked. 1978 and 1979 - The music environment had changed and hard rock was on the outer. Led Zeppelin were recording their WORST studio album- In Through the Out Door - with only two good songs in the shape of In the Evening and All MY Love. The Rolling Stones - had released the mega-selling Some Girls in '78 and I prefer Ace's solo album to theStones and their embarrassing dolow up Emotional Rescue.
Rock is about being in the right place at the right time. There are some pretty mediocre musicians in famous rock bands that got lucky.Ringo Starr for instance is a average drummer that became a beatle by being in the right place at the right time. Then there are tons of musicians that make their living doing sessions for studios that could have been great. The music industry is a very strange entity run by some pretty creepy people.
About Ringo Starr - A musician has to play well enough that his/her audience is entertained and getting what they pay for. Ringo had a number of hits as a solo artist even with average drumming and voice. He used his skill wisely There is ALWAYS some unknown talent somewhere who can play/sing better, so it isn't just a matter of skill. You can be a virtuoso on an instrument but unable to write a decent, popular song or sing it. You can also have mad skills, but such a nasty/arrogant/dickhead personality that nobody is willing to be associated with you. When it comes to "being in the right place", I partially agree with you. It's long been said that a good part of success is actually showing up for work. You show up for your shitty job when others don't, and suddenly you're there to accept an opportunity being offered while others are nowhere to be seen. Still, I'd say that success is a result of many factors, and not just talent. Talent may not even be at the top of the list, especially nowadays with the computer/electronic help available.
Nicely put point. For every Hal Blaine or The Sweet being respected but not getting the credit they deserved there's others who may not be geniuses but earned their place. Let's face it if you only do music (or anything) for ONLY game or cash you won't most likely last as long as others.
You guys very well know that this show was the precursor to other shit hole daytime reality/ talk shows such as the Jerry Springer show, right ? This is all scripted..
