The most correct explanation of wind correction in Arma 3 Ace. Thanks a lot, I had hard time figuring out why I was missing for a ~0.2 mils(sometimes much more on extreme ranges). Your video helped me to understand that even 12 or 6 o'clock wind can have a crosswind part as well. Great work!

Hey dude, got a question for ya. When do you decide to use the wind speed and the full clock for wind direction and when do you use the crosswind with 9 or 3 o’clock? Also should I principally always divide my wind speed, be it crosswind or normal wind speed, by 0.6? Cheers

Of course it's always situational but I'd say ~When the first shot must hit and you have full control on choosing when the shooting starts, might as well go for CW with 3 or 9. On the contrary, if you have to get bullets down the range quick and can shoot a lot at a fast pace (= if u have a semi-auto gun), it might be feasible to just shoot the first one near the target, eg. measuring the distance and guesstimating the wind, and correct the follow-up shots based on the first impact. I haven't used the clock direction with max wind speed that much recently, but depending on the strength of the wind, I'd consider using it up until 50% of the max range displayed in range card or something along those lines. In addition, you should take the following things into account. 1) Strenght of the (cross)wind -> the higher, the more likely you should use CW w 3/9 2) Muzzle velocity & bullet mass -> the lower, the more likely you should use CW w 3/9 As for the division, the same: Yes, if you have time. The whole point of it is to get as good estimation of the full/true wind speed that actually affects the bullet and 0,6 has proven to yield generally good results when proning as explained in the vid. This is explained at page 6 of the document linked in desc. 0,6 comes from the player character's head's altitude above terrain level (figure 1 / page 5 of the doc). It means you can measure about 60% of the "true wind speed" while proning, and as we want 100% for our Atrag calculations, we divide the measured value by 0,6.

Yo, doing aight :D. Yeah the big number displays the crosswind (which you wanna use with 3 or 9 o'clock as the clock direction WHEN the heading is set correctly and you're facing the wind). In short do as I do and the bullets should land pretty close as long as your profile is about correct. TLDR: I got 0.6 using a self-made script, link to which is in the document below. I use it, because in the explained conditions the measurable wind is 60% of the wind that affects the bullet. Cheers, man. It's all about taking the advantage of Arma being a game lol. The AXMC from SPS weapons has definitely longer range than m2010 from RHS, tho, and the 1800m is about the max accurate range which already requires some tweaking of the ballistic coefficient and the rifle twist. (If the target doesn't have proper body armor, you can probably push it a bit more as long as you're hitting the center mass) Tomorrow I'll put a link to a Google doc I've been working on if I'll remember. It's already in some of my other vids. Tldr I wrote a simple script which calculated "true wind speed"/"measurable wind speed" Where true ws is the max ws on altitudes where the terrain doesn't affect the wind (=20+ meters above terrain level). In conditions mentioned in the video the division appears to be almost exactly 0.6 (+-0.02). So knowing the 0.6 and the measurable wind speed i was able to calculate the true wind speed with some simple maths. True ws also appears to be the value ace AB uses to stimulate the shots. I actually did some experimenting and got a bit conflicting results but ultimately crosswind value of true ws is _by far_ the most accurate, yet obtainable, way to measure the wind I'm aware of.

Is it a total range problem if the bullet is stuck in a different place than I thought?

If you mean the bullet lands further or closer than where you aim, the problem could be pretty much anything except wind or rifle twist: For example, BC - Ballistic coefficient / drag coefficient table (can cause a great error) BH - Bore height (minor error) Atmospherics: temperature, humidity, barometric pressure (minor error, depends on the ammo, though) The ballistic coefficient is definitely a biatch, and when closing in the max range of a gun, setting it properly gets quite tricky. I've been intending to make a video about using the Truing tool in AtragMX which I think I've figured out. Even with that, though, getting consistent hits at 1700m even with M200 just isn't possible :'D.

It's something I coded myself. Here's the code: pastebin.com/00NE3fiD The same link can be found in the document in the description. In single player you should be able to display the code quite easily. Just executing the code is enoough (either locally or globally). I'd recommend doing it in Editor where you have the debug console available.

Ye I don't mind. My values aren't ideal, either, just saying :D. They can always be a bit better. My Gun tab follows my first video, except I have tweaked Rifle Twist a bit here and there. RT=18.54cm . Drag coef table (should be pretty accurate to 1500m at least): imgur.com/a/5QgPIrK

​@@RedTheSniper After you get comfortable with measuring the wind and tweak your atrag profile a bit, you're pretty much guaranteed to get the hits. Just remember each gun has their own effective range. I heard as long as the bullet is in supersonic speed (when its velocity is over ~340 m/s), you should be good. The distances range card shows at different temperatures are also pretty good guidelines to get the idea about maximum range, although you can often push a bit past that.

@@p1ker1 I do some op with a group and in there sniper rifles are sort of useless, m40 (rhs) takes way to many shots, same for m 2010 that should be more powerful

@@RedTheSniper Yeah, I'm pretty sure m40 is almost identical to m11/sr25 except it has a bit longer barrel and thus higher muzzle velocity - ultimately just 7,62*51. M2010 can shoot a bit further but after some 1300 meters that too gets pretty unpredictable in my opinion. Funnily enough, I don't do much sniping in the missions of the unit I'm part of, either. ACE advanced ballistics is just something I looked into a lot at one point.
