Drill a small hole in the case (on the side if there is room) and insert a small tactile switch. Then you can wire it up as a dedicated power button.

disabling the power button action has no effect because it has nothing to do with long press (long press can bypass any other actions) and the computer was sleeping because you didnt wait enough for the power button long press so that it didnt shut it down.great job btw you are the real master

Hi Sorin, I think this won't work because of the power buttons emergency shutdown abilitiy. When you close the lid EC will sense that power button is pressing and after 5 seconds EC will think you are trying to force Power off then it will cut the power and this will probably make windows corruption.

A wonderful, beautiful and profitable idea, but there are some customers who will not be satisfied with it. I encountered a problem like this with a Lenovo laptop, and as you know, the keyboard is not cheap, and when it is removed and when it is removed and installed, it is not original because of the plastic screws... So I modified the keyboard by purchasing a Flex play button. Installing it under the power button and connecting wires.

Then i removed the scissors from the plastic keycap and glued it over the button. Now it looks fine and works fine.

The customer said the problem occurred after a Windows update, some windows updates require a full shutdown and restart, but Windows 10 has a feature called 'Fast Startup' which is enabled by default, sometimes this can interfere with the update and possibly cause the power button to not work properly. Perhaps turn off this feature and try again, it may or may not fix the power button. In Windows 10 it's in 'Settings/Power & Sleep/Additional Power Settings/Choose what the power buttons do' and disable 'Turn on fast startup (recommended). I don't know if other versions of Windows have this fast startup feature, I assume they do though.

In this case everytime two or three times you close the lid a recovery page would appear, it's like you press and hold power button when windows is on I would first use a little bit of isopropyl alcohol to clean under that power button, if didn't work, then I would set lid button behavior under bios settings, where you can set laptop to power on when you open the lid, no need to solder the wire.

Usually the digital circuits are working with either leading or trailing edge of the signal and not the pulse itself this is why you get different behavior upon opening and closing the lid twice, also the windows software is interfering with this sequence, so disabling the power switch from windows will at least give consistent behavior.

Not sure about Acer, but on some laptops (tested on Dell and Lenovo) there is a setting in the BIOS to have the laptop turn on the lid is opened or when AC power is connected. The latter is quite useful when using a laptop with an external monitor and peripherals as there's no need to open the lid to turn it on.

Hi Sorin, great modification... My idea will be... Taking the 3.3 from the sensor *source* where 3.3 is always present to the first pin of the keyboard, then the sensor output conected to a 47uf cap and 100ohm resistor (in parallel) to ground. That make the 3.3 go to 0 for a fraction of time in order to charge the cap when screen is opened. Hope it's clear.

I would make a small circuit that sends a pulse to the power button pin every time the state of the sleep sensor changes. Now disconect the sensor from the sleep pin on the motherboard and here you go. When you open the lid, the laptop gets the signal on the power pin to start, and when you close the lid it gets the short signal on the power button witch will send it to sleep mode, if you open the lid while its in sleep mode it will just wake up. The only issue with this is if you set it to sleep mode before closing the lid, witch would cause it to wake up with the lid closed, but you can still fix that by removing the sleep option in the controll panel.

Salutari from Brasov Sorin , i had a Lenovo with same issue , i fixed it by running a wire , on the actual keyboard , with some digging in the foil to touch the metal underside . I took the 3.3 from the connector and glued it under the plastic keyboard foil , right under the actual button so when button is pressed the wire touches the metal backing plate of the keyboard . That's doggy. Anyway some laptops have the option in the Bios to turn on by Lid , or by plugging charger, in HP i've seen it ans used it

At software level you can set do nothing for power button press but at hardware level EC will still register a long press on power button and shut down everything. Lid closed = power button pressed For short period of lid closed sleep will register, (also short time press on power button) that's why you get sleep sometimes but for long time lid closed after sleep event occured that low on power button for some amount of time ( aka long press on power button) will force EC to shut down everything. As result next boot will be in recovery since windows doesn't shut down as it should be. Maybe add another hall sensor, maybe there are some hall sensor that output one pulse instead Find another way to translate low from hall sensor to 1 sec low pulse.

I usually repair these types of laptops by placing a small switch under the keyboard power button itself. And wiring it directly to the keyboard connector. It is very time consuming. Since some drilling is required to make way for the wires. But end result is pretty good. You get a tactile power button on the original keyboard itself.

On my own laptop it is hooked to a monitor and it has a power button under the lid. It is not convenient for me to open the lid, so I have fitted a tactile as above and removed to magnet from the lid that triggers the hall effect sensor as I could not disable the lid switch easily on POP-OS linux.

1) When buying: Fabricated/Refurbished chip: (Someone at the recycling plant is removing chips and making them look like something else) They will be thinner if measured with a vernier gauge because they have to be ground down in order to repainted and re-number them. 2. Paint will come off the chip with isopropyl alcohol. 3. Check the image for the previous positioning mark which has been ground down and painted over. 4.The date will not correspond with the manufacturing date of the computer model. (And will be confusing), this is intentional. 5.Look at the pins All tin-plated pins that are as bright as "new" must be refurbished. Most of the pins of genuine ICs should be so-called "silver powder pins", which are dark in color but uniform in color. So pins which are too shiny have been made to look so. 6. The vast majority of chips are now laser marked or printed with a dedicated chip printer. The handwriting is clear, neither conspicuous nor blurred and difficult to erase. The refurbished chips have either the edge of the writing corroded by the cleaning agent and have a "jaggy" feeling, or the printing is blurred, different in shades, misplaced, easy to erase or too conspicuous.

According to my never ending dodgyness I'd think about - a) putting in a tiny noise-sensor module with gain almost down (every time when you strongly knock on the laptop's case you get a logic signal to turn on or off the comp) - b) putting in a reed-switch on the housing's edge (costumer can switch on/off with customized magnet-magic ..magnetized cat, ring, pen...) - c) putting in a tiny RFID-receiver and switching on/off with a little transponder (a keyfob, a card or, just for fun these transponders are even available in form of micro capsules for subcutaneous implanting - guess that would be pretty challenging) - or d) the common, dodgy things like drilling a tiny hole on the side for micro-switches (or light-sensors, triggered by a laser-pointer) ,)

wouldnt it be easier just to make new button, it can small and discrete just for turning on/off

Maybe if you can carefully remove old button, you will find silicon nipple there... so replace it with a button from a tablet or mobile phone. Only one thing if you manage to push wires... maybe poke a hole through membrane? What you think?

I put a microswitch in Kensington Lock Hole in one laptop, cause the power button on keyboard didn`t work. Now i think for reed magnet switch and magnet to start or something like this.

Sorin, just go into the bios and set the POWER ON WHEN LID OPEN to on, no need to bypass
@tafadzwamusekiwa659

Or a small hole on the case put a switch that has jumpers to the keyboard connector
