I noticed you said the colors are bad, which is fine and matches all the other reviews on youtube. However, most other reviewers downloaded a custom profile list and adjusted settings in the OSD to make it clearer.
I know that this is a really late response (it's been a year since your comment) but just in case people are still thinking about getting this, I have to say that they are a lot cheaper now. I bought mine for $399 as an open-box item and at that price I really like it. It's a head-turner if nothing else. If I had paid any more for it, however, I probably wouldn't be so happy with it. The colors are pretty unexciting and for me, for lack of a better word, it lacks depth or "sharpness". I was also in touch with Acer a couple of times because my system picks it up as a Generic PnP Monitor and I wanted it to pick it up as the Z35 it is so that I could install a Light Show made specifically for it, and they told me that systems would always pick it up as a Generic Monitor, which I still don't understand (why).
The main advantage of IPS vs VA is the responsiveness. Previous generations of VA displays had terrible response times that were compensated with overdrive, leading to noticeable overshoot that materialized through pinkish blur on moving objects (the effect is also known as reverse ghosting). But recent VA panels are much better and the difference with IPS is less noticeable in this area, if noticeable at all. But IPS panels are still a tad better when it comes to color accuracy, but it's nothing major for gaming, you won't notice the difference if you're not doing color accurate work. However, VA panels have much deeper blacks than IPS ones, leading to better contrast and more details in the darker areas. Plus, you don't get IPS glow on a VA panel.
Ips can never have better blacks than va. No matter how bad the va is. Because Ips has no such thing as black, only greys. But recent VA panels are very refined, and even ghosting is sufficiently diminished, making it overall a better choice for everything other than color accuracy.
Thanks for the review.., I think I will buy an IPS panel. Every VA panel i have seen has washed out colours.., thought it was just me. HA. I can either buy the Acer Predator X34 for $1295.., or wait till the new 200Hz monitors release later this year. :)
@@adalwolf8328 ok, then buy two monitors to get the same width workflow and game immersion, with bars from bezels in the middle, I'm sure as hell not doing that.
