Probably to just protect them and see them succeed. It's obvious that they hate that Elio has them doing stereotype villain stuff, but SAM think's it's necessary, even if it hurts him and the MC's relationship in the end. They clearly hate themselves for doing whatever Elio had them do in the first place, and whatever they've done before that
I didn't wanted to believe that Sam was Firefly, I had hope that I could hace Firefly and a cool ass flame power ranger wich is also a terrorist with biomechanical upgrades called Sam, but now I have Firefly inside a cool ass flame power ranger armor wich is also insane but you know...
