I didn't even watch the video now (seen it before). But the title "Achieving total failure" took a whole new meaning in my life as sudden, abrupt change just recently. Namely I failed. Just got to live with it now.

My constant complaint, “Why does nothing work anymore?!” takes on a new meaning. Learning that failure is actually essential for enlightenment is the most salient truth you could have shown to me this morning, Adya. Infinite gratitude. 🙏🙏🙏

How is the spiritual awakening going

I've been coming back to this talk multiple times during the past few weeks. Fantastic perspective and I gain new insight in 'letting go' each time I listen. I've been working on absorbing Letting Go by David Hawkins. This talk is in the same vein, different perspective. The letting go or surrendering has played a large role in my life looking back. (I was't consciously doing so at the time) When I surrender the 'need' for certain things to happen or not happen, the thing I've been seeking appears in it's own special way. The way I currently understand surrender is to letting the mind relax when the thought comes. For example, if you desperately want a great relationship or significant other, write down exactly what you're looking for. Be crystal clear in your mind of the relationship you want to have. Then let go. Close the notebook and forget about it. Let go of the tension you feel in your mind, think of the mind like a hand grabbing/gripping, when your mind is grabbing on to a though, visualize the hand opening up and letting go of what you're desperately wanting, as vapor disappears in an instant. One day, you'll look back having forgotten what you were desperately wanting, to notice you have all of it. Interesting how these things work. It's very similar to the philosophy of Judo. The gentle way. (Although when you see olympians, it's very far from gentle) The paradox of life. Gotta love it.

It's especially tricky if the thing you want is essential, i.e. if you cannot just close your notebook because it is a constantly twisting knife in your side. And with that pain it is difficult to get anything done either.

What if those things you wished for only come to be once they have become irrelevant or even undesirable in the new context? The best I can draw from that, as a subjective interpretation of meaning, is to not entertain such wishes or examine what was unwise about them. There is that smug popculture saying that if people get what they wish for, they are disappointed. That stems from in-the-box thinking where people who achieve such wished things tend to do unwise things to achieve them, basically playing into the system's laws. Opposed to this stands, for example, the 'rebel' Willy Wonka, who said: _'You know what happened to the boy who suddenly got everything he ever wanted? .... He lived happily ever after.'_ - This is arguably actually more spiritually wise because, apart from generally contrasting the perceived-contrasting self-help wisdom itself, it points at a state of complete contentment with nothing further to strive for, which scares the agitated, fear-driven egoic mind. Naturally one of those wishes is to be happy. That should be implied, and whether it is depends on how we choose to perceive. - Also, are we AFRAID that following such a path could turn out disappointing? Would you pursue it anyway? Could you embrace the role? Here is another counter-self-help-babble iconoclasm: _Money doesn't corrupt the character. It amplifies it._ Take one person who worked their ass off to become a millionaire and contrast them to another person who was gifted that million without having to compromise like that with the status quo. Now imagine the latter person is not afraid of that influence; is aware it might not be clear-cut, that there might still be strings attached, isn't expecting perfection.

Adya says it. This is pure gold. It is also a huge paradox! The seeking for realization, is what prevents it. That which is "sought" is always already present (as Reality, Consciousness, Beingness or whatever word one prefers) So seeking = turning away from That.

Good news, you can learn. Life is a gift even so it does not seem to be so for a while and we fall into a routine. Start looking and learning. Just try without any motive or any search. Just do it if you feel like it.

I could not agree more. That is my experience as well and I recognize myself in every single word. Yet what are yogis doing through discipline, then? Aren't they trying to achieve self realization?
@Nothingness000
@Nothingness000 Год назад
My understanding is that the yogic discipline is in the early stages of spirituality. Surrender as described by Adyashanti is at the higher stages.
@bhaktimaddalena-nakedlife
@bhaktimaddalena-nakedlife Год назад
@@Nothingness000 maybe it is the difference between what is referred to as "progressive path" and "direct path": in the latter the highest form is surrender, as also pointed out by Ramana Maharshi. I, for my part, have found myself in this one, whereas discipline was never my cup of tea and resulted in a superego wanting to become something. Many blessings for your path and cheers to our "blissful failures" 😉.

I don't care anymore. I am a disaster. I am not afraid of dying, I am afraid of living, because it is a disaster, yet I am not suicidal ? I see no purpose in this though. Nearly all of my waking hours are spent answering to others that I do not respect, i.e. A "job" .. what a waist of life

Working with Adyas teachings I am now in a place where the day in and day trials of what I once believed to be "me" and the opinions and actions of those around me are of pretty much of no interest or concern to me. I live from this other place and all my energy and attention goes to this other reality and the learnings that come with it. I have no interest in how others behave or act or judge the ego structure I once experienced as me. It's not being blissed out or anything. It's about finally seeing and then gently settling into this other way of being in the world. No demands of or expectations of it. Adya nails it. It works and it is real. I've been on the other side for over a year watching the dumpster fire that is considered normal being and happy to be somewhere else.

Thank you Joe. I have witnessed this myself to a large degree, and this particular message from Adyashanti (whom I respect very much) is particularly straight on. It is very good to here this from another (i.e. you) Yet, I have had difficulty joining this paradigm we speak of with a monetary means by which I can substantiate my "physical" livelyhood along side these so many others whom have absolutely no idea of that which we speak. Perhaps I have yet to fully shift my sense of security? There is that small bit that remains stuck in the old "frame of mind" ?

I reached that point where there’s no where to go and nothing to do. It has caused me great depression. I can’t see the success of it. I’m only sleeping, eating.. the basics. Where’s the success?
@Dowlphin

So you have goals? Because success is tied to goals. If you have no goals, success would actually become irrelevant, which can be a load off. (I have goals. It sucks.)

Nowhere to go, nothing to do. Just resting in and as the fullness of Life....OR ... If the mind gets hold of it, the experience of fear and lack which in turn will most often lead to seeking and avoiding in one form or another. Self inquiry is the practice or the art of letting go of the latter and returning to one's true identity thus breaking identification with a limited sense of self, the source of all suffering.

Question. It is clear that the chase of liberation is not the problem, as we all got into delusion before starting the search. So, why would there be a shift when that subsides? I suspect that here he refers not to that craving but to general sense of feeling better somewhere in the future, but even if that subsides, why would that release one from buying the lie of separation? Since it all ties back to a sense of a self, wouldn't investigating that and seeing that it can't be found repeatedly, be a more sensible path? On the other hand all of this is another attempt to conceptualize, just thought.

Thank you so much for posting this. Nisargadatta speaks about this and so does Jean Klein, not to mention JK Krishnamurti book, Freedom from the Known. It's great to hear a modern "teacher" speaking about this from the same POV just using different words. The "end of the mind" and stepping into the unknown, just giving up completely and 100% surrendering any attempt or expectation that the mind will ever get this because it absolutely literally can't. A conceptual object can only appear in the non-conceptual space, (objects in awareness are reliant upon space/awareness) so using a conceptual object like the Mind is like a dog chasing it's tail. It will never ever figure it out, have to go one step further and see it's limitations and once it's seen then surrender happens on it's own. Thanks again, love to listen to nondual pointings.

@ 0:10 "be at that place: nowhere to go, nothing to do." That reminded me of the Beatles, "You Never Give Me Your Money." That song cycles from depression, frustration & nirvana. It was written when their manager started Apple records, and their careers became a business brand. Net worth was on paper; the artists were frustrated with all the entanglements & explanations (mismatched goals between riches and doing what they love). Then it switches to the frustrating early days (playing music for love; struggling to work other jobs to make ends meet). Then switches to how they treasured those "magic moments," "nowhere to go." That's when it was all worthwhile (who they were, being). Then switches to a different way of looking at the present moment: "one sweet dream came true today." They could go anywhere, do what they one, nowhere to to. In a very luxurious way. The luxury got in the way of what had been important to them. But, it actually enabled more of what they would have valued back when they were simplier, less "brand." I always think of that song, "oh that magic feeling... no where to go... One sweet dream... came true... today!"

We are unable to naturally 'Awaken' because our minds are made neurotic by the foods we eat today. Since around the time we humans created "Agriculture" we began consuming carbohydrates...and that was the beginning of our descent towards ill health and diseases. The consumption of carbohydrates causes the human body to no longer produce vital ketones. Try eating ONLY meat, eggs, salt and water for at least six weeks (to allow the transition from carb burning to fat burning) and be amazed at your miraculous health transformations. You will discover what they mean when a carnivore-diet person talks about "Carnivore Calm" or "Carnivore Zen"...a kind of Awakening in itself, which can then lead to Enlightenment.
