This week I share 3 wins that happened as part of my recovery process in addition to a new helpful tool to help with swelling and compression! I also discuss the research and importance of healing and dorsiflexion and why I'm deciding to slow progress towards regaining degrees of dorsiflexion.
0:00 - introduction
0:40 - exciting things happened!
0:48 - Front squat without a box!
1:15 - heavy deadlifts!
1:45 - mini bouncing calf raises on trampoline!
2:51 - Second full week in shoes - Birkenstocks!
3:37 - first week with no scar opening!

5:03 - Rubberband example of stretched achilles
5:34 - cut back mobility/dorsiflexion work
6:14 - no more night splint to sleep
6:28 - Creep method - long term stretching in plan of care
7:02 - huge difference and achilles activation not using night splint
7:20 - Calf raises with reduced bands
7:43 - tissue healing timeline with dorsiflexion
8:28 - better to heal short than heal long!
8:47 - physical therapy - balance exercises and pallof presses!
9:23 - retro walking!

Hey! You should do an update video of your current situation. Please don’t get mad, I saw your week 13 setback and immediately was thinking you were doing way too much too fast. I tore my left 2 years ago and just tore my right almost 8 weeks ago. I’m not even able to walk in a shoe yet. And yes of course everyone has a dif recovery and healing process. Do you think your experience in physio was maybe a bad thing? Like you’re so knowledgeable but I feel like that may have gave you too much confidence in what you were doing. Those toe jumps are so bad loading the tendon so quickly. Anyway please don’t be mad just from an outside perspective that’s what I thought.

Thank you for your videos! They are so informative and helpful. I am 7 weeks post-op. In physical therapy we work on full range of motion. My doctor waits until the 10-12 week mark to start walking with the boot. I've seen many videos of people walking sooner and was getting frustrated. I take PT seriously and do my exercises at home and work. I can weight bear and I'm ready for the next step. I agree with your take of doing me and not pushing things too fast. Watching your video I now understand that my doctor is waiting for me to be further along in the healing. I will trust the process!

I am sorry you are going through this injury and please remember that everyone heals on different timelines. Make sure you are not pushing dorsiflexion too much as you want to make sure you heal properly and not heal long. You got this and yes, TRUST THE PROCESS!

Thanks for your insights! Watching your earlier videos I was wondering why the focus on range of motion and pushing dorsiflecion. The whole point of the boot is to stop that. So I was interested to see how that went. I’ll keep watching future vids to see what I can learn to do and what not to do, so helpful watching people who’ve been through the same thing.

ALL HEALING PROCESS TAKES TIME. LONG TIME. I HAVE LIKE 8 INJURIES IN MY BODY, AND THE SHOULDER ONE TOOK LIKE 1 1/2 YEARS TO RECOVER. I'M AN ACTIVE MALE, I'M IN MY 50'S AND I THINK BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY . SO. TAKE THINGS AT IT'S OWN PACE. IF YOU RUSH, YOU INCREASE CHANCES TO HURT AGAIN. BUT, WHAT DO I KNOW.... :) GOOD LUCK AND RECOVER WELL PEOPLE !. DON'T TRY TO DO MORE THAN YOU WHERE ABLE TO DO BEFORE, RIGHT AFTER THE INJURY OR WHEN YOU ARE HEALING...... RIGHT ? BE CALM.......

Really interesting about healing short. I’m sure the patience will pay off!

I’m sure it will, no need to push it right now! I’d rather not have to do this again if you know what I mean!
