What is your favorite technique or tool when working with acrylics?

I use acrylics only as a base of my oils 😊 But this technique maybe will help me to try something more since I need time when painting and acrylics dry too fast!

Rolli I, too, have mostly used acrylics for underpaintings, studies & models. Have you tried a retarder medium or the slow drying acrylics like Golden Open Acrylics? It's another way to extend the working time! :)

My favorite technique when working with acrylic paint is to mix up a very large amount of the base color of an area, so I can always add some more to the canvas in that area and then quickly paint wet into wet over that with a different tone before that base color dries. For example if one were painting an orange, if they have a very large amount of the base color of the orange mixed up and available they can always apply some more of that base color to the contours of the orange first and then paint on top of that wet paint before it dries. It gives one the option of painting into wet paint on the canvas instead of only painting on top of dry paint.

@@annawakitsch never tried at all! but the question is why do we need to paint using acrylics?

@@rolliart 😊 good point! I'll probably always prefer painting with oil paint in general, but I like to use acrylic for certain things. Sometimes I've found it useful to be able to blend the open acrylics and then dry them quickly with a hairdryer.

In retrospect, do you wish you had not removed water from the sponge at the end of the first day’s painting, or do you think it just needs occasional attention to adding or removing water?
