At times college can be a scam. They promise you education, but can't promise you success. When we see motivational film, speech or someone famous talking about how they made it big through hardships, it's the people that made it. What about those that don't, but keep trying over n over again and never made it? Those people just don't get mention. The world can be very cruel. I wonder, if a supporting character has many scenes would they get pay as much or almost the same as the two main leads?
@Carmel Navarro you mean a poor actress?? Not bad. Acting can be fun. Doesn’t matter if you’re just a secondary lead or a minor support character. Sometimes the support character left the most mystery and charm. Sometimes I wish Ten Miles of Peach Blossom has more in-depth characters. I am truly intrigued by the demon princess. There was so much potential. Then the demon prince and the crazy cousin. If only the crazy cousin was more 3D - or maybe she’s more mentally insane than we think. Who knows. U know, if You have a phone cam you can be an actor today!! It will just take time for you to build up a following!! Maybe a lot of times.
college isn’t a scam what you pointed out is very true but life is more of the “scam” here lmao obviously hard work doesn’t equal success but it’s not just college. success isn’t fair the ent industry isn’t fair and effort will never be relative to success. college will help you so much because if you don’t go to an acting college you’ll like 95% fail at your acting career. to be successful you have to take the risks. the successful people originally took the same risks as the people who couldn’t so be respectful to everyone’s hard work and success
@@liable4642 college can be a scam depending on the narrative. But a lot of youth indeed did go to college believing or they were told it was the ticket to a higher paying job and did not understand the consequences of their student loan or that there r several other factors involve to achieve the higher paying job. That’s why people call it a scam. Either way, how someone view a college degree or the advantage the degree will offer depends on their personal goal/career.
Thank you for making this video. I have wondered about the topic for a long time, trying to research with my low level of Chinese >< PS. I also studied archutecture! Your explaination really illustrate the picture! Haha
Whattt? You are a landscape architect by education?! :o i knew those amazing illustations and visual/graphics skills had to come from somewhere! :) i totall agree on the gsd bit! -.- currently i am an arch. major lookin at grad school admits..i LOVE your high quality content (pretty much being an oddball for loving far east asian ent, esp c-dramas, my new love! Devoured most of your content silently, but your comment on the exclusivity of certain schools in producing big-names in a profession brought me out to comment here! Keep up the great work!...ily! Do not know if you’ll ever see this, but just happy it’ll exist on your comment section! :)
AvenueX I was just going to ask you if it has any actor or actresses who did not go to one of those prestigious academies that you mentioned, but ended up being a top-notch class actor or actresses but coming down to the end of the end of the video you did make mention of 3. So thanks very much.
I feel so bad seeing those students in the video! I believe the only way to get into TV screen is to look extremely beautiful and also have connections. Even though you're beautiful, no connection then you're nowhere. Or, if you have connection but you look terrible and you play an important role then you'll get yell at! In fact, actress Gao Yuan Yuan was one person who was just asked up front to play the big famous role as Zhou Zhi Ruo in HSDS because of how beautiful she looks (see what I mean, good looks and connection). Don't know how things are changing recently, but I heard Li Xin Ai was asked upfront as well to star as Li Chang Le in "THE PRINCESS WEIYOUNG" but Li Xin Ai is ugly in my opinion though. Some best directors did not go to school too because it wastes time while they use all that time to learn how camera tricks work, then they already became professionals. Art school doesn't make any sense, maybe if they go to school to learn how to turn art into business then that would make more sense? A long time ago, when Zhao Wei and all her crews from HZGG explained how they marketed themselves, it did sounded like going to school was a very "CLEAN" way to get in the industry. Because they would meet other students to have connections and help each other get notice out there. It sounded like very very hard work, and they were so determined! But I don't know about today. Today almost everybody just competing on who looks more like plastic dolls, even the men are turning into barbie dolls. Currently actress Zhao Liying (really big actress today) is the only person making bold claims getting into TV screen without education and connection. I wonder what you guys think about the topic, it's pretty controversial and interesting. So, the question is: Is that really possible? Would that work if anyone else try too? Without connection? Hm...Quite honestly that sounds very sketchy and I say don't fall for it. If the Chinese media keeps saying somebody is the "best", most of the times they might be the worse. They are just branding people for a reason, not for your benefit, sorry. If you analyze it carefully, Zhao Liying filmed in quite a few small productions such as "LOVE KILL 9 RIVERS 2008" and "THE AMATEUR IMPERIAL BODYGUARD 2010". Although those were small productions, the roles are considered (or extremely close to) "main roles" already. So, by no means can that be "no connection." And, if you compared that to other well known actresses today, they'd play many many more small roles than what Zhao Liying did. If Zhao Liying has 0 connections, other actors would have -0 connections. Besides, what's more interesting, after Zhao Liying finally starred into the bigger productions like "MY FAIR PRINCESS 2011" (notice the looks between 2011 vs 2010? Wink-wink, good looks mean good roles), "CUO DIAN YUAN YANG", "LEGEND OF LUZHEN", "BOSS & ME", of course they were definitely "bigger productions" but still not exactly dramas that are considered good or "good enough" at all. However, for unknown reasons, Zhao Liying was already nominated for a Grand Emmy award (in China, the Golden Eagle award equivalent to it) when she was not well known yet. It can be said the connections she got was very good within the first 2-3 years, and then solid after 2-3 more years later (she started around 2006 I believe). Compared to students, the school road is much harder and riskier. It is really about that "special connection". When "THE JOURNEY OF FLOWER" came out in 2015, that was finally Zhao Liying's biggest hit drama. In my opinion, it has good CGI & good Costumes & good OST. Story wise, it is so childish and does not break my record, however it did break China's record which isn't a surprise because of what magically happened in 2014's huge award. Obviously there was this one other drama with good CGI & Costumes & OST but childish storyline known as "NOVOLAND: THE CASTLE IN THE SKY 2015", but it wasn't as popular as TJOF. But if you ask what is the difference between that and TJOF then there is "not much difference." But another interesting thing again, though all of those roles must add up together to get Zhao Liying where she is today, they came through the help of her first manager He Ru. She decided not to credit him or thanks him. But just continue to spread the story of her using her own self effort only. She changed managers since then and any bad news about her are to be from her "old agency" spreading rumors because they are angry at her. Or, that people just hate her poor village and no education background (not exactly true, other stars with poor and no education backgrounds are well liked). It was very crazy. Also crazy that many fans are protecting her regardless if they actually believe her at all, because of the way she's branding herself, it is a brand they wish that will truly exist, and if they can just help cooperate to make it true, maybe it will become true to everyone in the future? That's why some Zhao Liying dramas are very below average but the popularity is always the highest (not just high, highest). So, in conclusion, Zhao Liying came into the industry without education but I wouldn't say no connection. And a lesson, if you have man power or tons of super, super-crazy fans following you, then you are marketable and can be super star.
Thank you for this video! I am from Ireland and have a certificate in fine art and 3 certificates for Acting for Camera from the Gaiety School of Acting. 🙂 Would there be any Acting Schools in Shanghai or Beijing that would be interested in taking on an adult student?
Scarlett Moira I think they all do. I’m planning to do the same as well but the prices and the procedure is quite complicTed. You can find those details on their official website!
Canada, acting in china, is you need to know how to cry , get drunk, faint , fall on carpet flower , beeing carried on someone back, how, to hold a sword and how to died. It is stupid to talk about copie whrite because it is the same thing over and over. I watch it since two years for only the beautiful actors, costume , music production, the re hands , the lips and surely that delicous food that make me water in my mouth. Stay all safe.
More actors and actresses probably come from dancing and singing and beauty contests so not many of them are good in acting when they are just starting out. I prefer to watch dramas with veteran actors and actresses.
Does the forgien student's need to pass the gaokao exam too or not . or it is just the chinese exam AND DANCE AND SINGING AND ACTING SKILL'S exam . please answer me fast
Can I join the Acting Academy while pursuing another degree? Is it possible to become involved in acting by joining an acting academy and studying as a foreign student? If it was impossible to join that, the time could have been used for another degree.
The best advice I can give is, first learn Chinese, I can't guarantee you that you'll succeed, but I'm also currently trying to master my Mandarin and Cantonese so I have another chance in Hong Kong.

For Chinese : I am a foreign actress and I would like to be an actor in China But I'm afraid I can't as a foreigner Is there a law in China that a foreigner can not play in Chinese movies and TV series? it is possible? Or no matter how hard I try, I can only play a Support Role?
not necessarily, recently these exams are so strictly monitored by the 纪委 it's not really possible to cheat the exam process, but if an applicant is from a family with influential pulls in the industry, it's not unreasonable for them to get an easier pass
You can learn Chinese by any app it's really not that difficult I am learning Chinese right now yes it might be hurt when you start first time but as you get used to it. It is easy

An Indian person can act in Chinese drama ? Can I? I don't know nothing about that but I like Chinese drama and I like to act in Chinese. Can I do that I am from India
No, but you do need your high school graduation papers, hsk 5 certificate etc. The necessary papers you need to give to be able to participate in 艺考 are all listed on their website. Good luck!!
Tricky English thing: *Performance Art* is different from *the Performing Arts*... I think you meant to say these are the top academies for the Performing Arts. It implies acting as well as other arts on the stage such as music. I appreciate your video, Thank you.
I am indian but i love Chinese drama and films so i wanted to became a chinese actress ..please tell me is that possible.. I really need your help! Please
i am not an expert tho but i am an indian as well... but as far as i have studied entering any film industry is extremely tough...specially in film industries of korea, china , japan , thailand...even if you pass out from film schools or performing arts school there is no guarantee that the person can become a successful actor that too in other country. there is no straight shot way of entering in any film industry actually like becoming a doctor or teacher. i hope that helped :)
