Very excited to finally be sharing the first part of my series on actioning the abundance approach. This week the topics discussed are:
1) Getting rid of small crockery and cutlery
2) Increasing portion sizes:
-Asking yourself what YOU want
-Asking yourself what you'd serve for a friend or someone else in recovery
-Seeking support from a recovery buddy
-Filling the plate
-Going large
ALSO:
-embodying your recovering core self and the person you want to be/life you want to live and ACTING in accordance with them/that
-purposefully doubling or tripling etc what you would normally have or portion.
Really excited to create this mini series and hope that you find it helpful :) If you have any other practical tips that you found helpful then please do share them below and thank you in advance for your support!
Please note: everyone's recovery journey is unique and it may be that the points I make in this video are not accessible and/or relevant to you so please, as always, take what helps and leave the rest. This is particularly apparent with reference to the topic of actioning bigger portions which may be inaccessible/inappropriate for those suffering from gastroparesis or other such GI complications: if this is the case for yourself then please prioritise the guidance from your team and what works best for your body at this time.

Thank you, I find this really reassuring. I keep telling myself “oh this MUST be big enough portion” etc and then feeling shitty afterwards when it actually didn’t really touch the sides and I’d have to go get more. Maybe “normal” portions won’t even be sufficient for a person in recovery. It just kind of feels a bit over the top sometimes, the amount I seem to need…

Thank you so much, Emily, for your thoughtfulness. I'm proud of the accomplishments I've made in recovery and acknowledge there's more work ahead of me. Your comment about what would I serve a friend, or someone else in recovery, gave me pause - I had not thought of that perspective and sincerely appreciate this new way to look at my choices and portions.

May I ask, 1)would this be also for middle-aged (older women) stuck in quasi for long-term?(gaining but with small restrictions n so many rules n OCD to some level with fear response) 2)Do u apply this even when so bloated n full after eating a lot?

Respectfully, this is for everyone; age is irrelevant. I'm 51 and have clinically diagnosed OCD, anxiety, and anorexia - not uncommon to co-occur.

Are you eating to satisfaction, or do you find you sometimes want more after a brief pause? This is how I try to action portions. Hope this helps. Sending love and encouragement to you!

I completely understand; definitely been there! I'm so happy to hear you are eating - give yourself lots of love for fueling your wonderful body! I've found, in my own experiences, that many times my fear is relieved when I DO, or ACT on, whatever the issue is. It's OK to be scared and do it anyway. It truly does get a bit easier each time. I assure you there are NO 'right' or 'wrong' foods. Trust your body and its wisdom. It will tell you when it's hungry, what it wants, and when it's satisfied. I know some days can be especially challenging and you're doing your best so keep being kind to yourself. You DESERVE recovery! @@user-bb3ni4eo5o
