Great video. However, instead of updating the path for all users manually would it not make more sense to use Group Policy to map the location? IE: New GPO In 'User Configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings' and select 'Drive Maps' - then add the FQDN\%username%
This is great information, but it is still pretty manual instead of automatic, looking at it from the outside. How can you take it another step further. Rather than having to go into the properties of the selected user and manually placing the destination for creation, to it actually doing this folder creation upon creation of the user and populates folders in the share associated with a group that the user is a part of? I've seen it before but would like to learn how to do it myself. They say its a batch file of some sort, but I would like to know, if so, where to place the batch file to run automatically for this purpose without having to manually place anything for reference, clicking on a batch file to do so, and without editing the batch file. This is definitely a step to getting closer to what I've been looking for.
Yeah I know I am replying to an old thread but if you haven sorted this out yet try using Group Policy (GPO) to automatically map the 'Home Drive' for all Domain Users. 1. From the Server Manager, select 'Tools > Group Policy Management'. 2. On the left hand side of the Group Policy Management console right click on the domain and select 'Create GPO in this domain, and link it here'. 3. Give your new GPO a descriptive name such as: 'U_Map Home Folder' then click on 'OK'. 4. Now right click on your newly created GPO and select 'Edit'. 5. Navigate to 'User Configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings' and select 'Drive Maps'. 6. Right click in the 'Drive Maps' section and select 'New > Mapped Drive'. 7. Under the 'General' tab set the following: Action: Update Location: \\YOUR FQDN HERE\Home_Folder$\%username% Reconnect: TICKED Label as: My Home Folder Drive Letter: H 8. Select 'Show this drive' in the 'Hide/Show this drive' section. 9. Under the 'Common' tab, tick 'Run in logged-on user's security contect (user policy option)'. 10. Click 'Apply' and 'OK'. 11. Close the 'Group Policy Management Editor' and the main 'Group Policy Management' window. Hope this helps
What about if you have afile server different from the DC and you want to create home folders for all the DC users in a share located on the file server?
