As a retired firefighter that inspected their facility from the beginning, they're the most compliant/detail oriented business I've encountered. Though not a pilot I'd trust in them. Felt compelled to share....

I have a set of Lightspeed Zulu for several years. I have wore the other brand and I have never regretted buying the Lightspeed brand!

A marketing idea for Teresa/Lightspeed: Get some sample "rental headsets" out to the flight schools. I would have loved to sample Lightspeed when I was in the market to buy. My school just has cheap rental headsets and due to Covid 19, my instructor was unwilling to let me try out his Bose headset so I was left to "follow in his footsteps" and bought what he has.

Like some traded in Zulu 2’s, upgraded and refurbished. That’s an idea….. My flight school has some RAs and a couple other passives, but no ANR. This might just lead to something.

Fantastic interview Dan and Theresa! I already bought the Bose A20 (because that's what my instructor has and they are great) but if I had seen this interview earlier perhaps I would have ventured for a Lightspeed product. I really like that Lightspeed was a first in many features. Very impressive company and nice flight bag as well :)

She and I got our pilot's license the same year. Very cool on the helmet setup, I know some pilots who are going to love that setup. that signal is keep it in tight, ok I am kidding 😂 have no idea either lol

I love my Lightspeed Zulu headset! It has been phenomenal for the last 4 years. However, because my airline doesn't allow non TSO headsets on the flight deck I won't be buying another Zulu. Though, my wife will inherit my Zulus. I will always recommend Lightspeed for GA or commercial operations that TSO authorization isn't necessary. Great company and products, but only wish they were TSO authorized!

I am a student pilot and been flying for about a year with the Tangos and I love them!!!!! Do they still make that? I haven’t heard much talk about them anymore!! Great video!!!!!!!

I use a cheap Amazon set. When I pass my check ride I plan on buying a nice ANR set and keeping the other as a spare. Thoughts on ANR for future regular passengers (spouse and kids) vs passive? Does it matter as much for them?

Bryan Turner and I did an unscientific test of various headsets in a video a couple years ago. IMO, non- ANR headsets can lead to hearing damage in loud pistons.

Light speed makes a good headset but not as good as Headsets Inc. I have owned mine for over 20 years and never had a problem. And a great company to deal with!

Love my Sierras… As a student pilot, there is no way I could justify $1000 headset. Turns out, I didn’t need to. My former CFI also tried them and now recommends them as her first choice for students… they use the “other guys” personally. Thanks for the insight into the Lightspeed family.

I have had my Zulu 3 since last year very early on in my training. Their email newsletter has usually some decent content in it btw is something else that stands out. It hasn't got a unsubscribe from me yet which says a lot. Sometimes content that would only relate to the states but a lot of stuff good for me in Australia.

Having volunteered some time as a flagman at AirVenture I can tell you that it can be hard to read those signs sometimes. You really need to hold it up and not just have it sit on the dash.

I like Lightspeed products, I have one of their bags but saying there is only one other competitor to Lightspeed on headsets is somewhat misleading, I’m assuming the reference is to Bose but there is also David Clarks, they make awesome headsets also!

Yeah it's like Sodas. Sure there are other companies out there like Dr Pepper and RC, but really, two companies have the lion's share of the market. And thats what the aviation headset market is right now.

@@TakingOff I kind of agree, yet David Clarke are a big player in several markets, their ANR/ANC is just a bit later to market. My perception is that DC equipment is stronger/harder wearing relatively speaking re ANR/ANC. In the UK that's important as shipping repair items back to the states is no fun.

What's support like for countries outside of the USA? They look great products. I'm confused, isn't the role of a headset to communicate AND to protect one's hearing? Surely those requirements are 50/50?

Not sure on the Intl answer... but probably a legal liability thing here in the US that you don't want to say "protects hearing" even though it does.

They have very good support here in Australia if that helps. Friends have had their Zulu fixed very quickly. Experience might be different elsewhere though.

Honestly the cost to make any quality headset is just way over priced. Their profit margins are just ridiculous. That goes for all manufactures with a “name”.... That has no reflection on you Dan. Your just reporting the information.

I will say I've had three different $99 headsets in Lola for pax, and every one of them has fallen apart after a very short time. So yes, there are headsets over-priced, but my Sierras have lasted years longer than the cheap ones. Worth the money.
