Acura 2019- 2023 RDX Mirror Disassembly & Replacement

The RDX got smacked by a rock on the highway and since its to damn pretty to leave broken, its time to fix that mirror!
I bought the parts from www.acurapartswarehouse.com and they came in great shape, OEM and at a great price! all in with shipping was about $90.00.

Thanks for your very detailed video on how to remove the plastic cover. Mine is not broken, yet I want to wrap the cover in gloss black vinyl. For best results I needed to know how to remove the cover.

I’m guessing your RDX doesn’t have power folding mirrors. Mine does, so I may run into a few differences.

No, my A-Spec definitely didn’t have power folding mirrors. Aside from there being a motor and gearing in the lower arm, the plastics being removed should be fairly similar. If there are any major differences, be sure to message back and let us know so anybody in the future can search through the comments and find your information.

@@Foxcraze thanks for the response. I’ve got the new pieces. I’ll make the attempt to swap out in next week or so. I’ll update once I get it done. Mine isn’t broken, just a large scratch on the red plastic cover.

Update on those with power folding mirrors. Few differences. There is a small plastic cover that comes off the underside of the mirror to reveal 3 screws on the folding gear. The one closest to the door is tough to get off with very little room to get a ratcheting Phillips head in there. (You may want to put tape on the body to prevent scratching your paint.) Once these 3 are off you can lift the mirror up to get the other screw shown in your video that is underneath and continue as you did. 👍

Great video! If I’m just trying to replace the cap which screws do I have to remove?

The whole thing has to come off sadly due to one of the cap screws being behind the glass mount and unreachable with out full disassembly.

I can't get the mirror to snap back onto the white part, it was difficult to get it. released to begin with but no. matter what pushing, it won't snap. back on and it floats up. from bottom. and I'm. afraid it will. fly off.

Hmm that’s tough, mine did that a few times before it finally snapped back in. Maybe change the angle of the white part when pressing it in will help apply more back pressure.

I use a GoPro 7 Black currently, I will be looking at getting a newer one soon though. That forward facing screen on the newer models is a nice touch that I want. Glad you found the video helpful!

Was the replacement mirror cover already painted from the warehouse parts store?

I broke a bracket on the inside part of the mirror. The part that the white part with the black tape attaches to. What part can I order to fix that?

great video...i used this to attempt to replace the auto turn actuator...which was super difficult as everything needed to come out including the mirror assemblly as there are some screws right under the mirror housing that you can't get to...just overall very tricky.. All the wires need to be cut as well as they won't slide through the motor assembly housing without it, which makes it a difficult job. I was just trying to save myself over 700 bucks. Oh well, at least I tried. Great video though. I managed to get through everything without breaking anything. They need a video on how to cut and resolder all the wiring...lol!

Thank you! As for your project the best bet would be to buy soldering heat shrink connectors. They sell them on Amazon and after you heat them up the solder inside melts to connect the wires and the heat shrink seals it all up nice and clean.

Can this process really be used on a 2022 Acura MDX mirrors? I need to replace the back cover on the passenger side and just want to be sure.

It is not exactly the same but this will give you a good comparison to how yours comes apart. Go to www.acurapartswarehouse.com/ and look up your vehicle and search “side mirror”. It will give you a broken apart view of all the pieces and the approx screw locations.

Not that I see the mirror styling changed for the 21+ MDX this might not be as helpful of a tutorial. As a result, I changed the title of the video to only cover RDX 19-23.

So if you go to acurapartswarehouse.com and look up the vehicle it will show you a diagram of the parts expanded. It look like it fairly the same process with the exception that the mirror body looks like it’s only 2 pieces and not 3. I would start with glass look at top and bottom angles and take it slow and go from there!

It does look like two instead of three as you noted but I'd be surprised if the mirror was attached differently. I'll tread with caution. :)

If the reflector wasn't broken, would one be able to snap off the top (painted) shell so easily? It looks like the reflector's screw that goes into that top part broke off thereby freeing the top part to be simply pulled off. Is that correct? Thank, super helpful video.

You are correct, it will not come off at all if the reflector isn’t broken. the entire front of the mirror housing top (blue) and bottom(black) have to come off as one piece before being able to remove the top (blue) piece from the reflector housing.
