Thanks for the breakdown Jef, sincerely appreciated. I was on the fence about what monitors to purchase next, but this video put me over to the T8V's. When I purchase them, I will use the link you provided in the description so you hopefully get a kickback from Sweetwater. Also, I really like all your other videos (namely the ones focused on Maschine, I just don't comment much because I generally watch them on my TV.
The other thing I like about them is that when I properly placed them, I hear the sound as if it's in front of me. I can really hear what's mixed to left and what's mixed to the right. But I've never been that consciously aware of the center as I am with these t8v's. Like you, I've been listening through my Yamaha HS5's forever and I'm used to the in your face punch but the t8v's are different, more subtle. It's a higher space of listening. I can only imagine what the $2,500 Adams sound like... Oh and thanks for the Noir video! Much, much needed. Spoke to the Sonokinetic folks. They're going to produce more simplified videos because they assume everyone buying their products are familiar with how to use them.
I have purchased some t7v's last year and the big big problem that i found is that they dont have punch, they sound hollow on the low mids and mids in general the low end too bummy, to me was impossible too mix a song on them... Produce music on than was realy hard and i really try ,my studio is very well treatead. I think the real problem is that the Amp on the T7V's is too weak for their size seeing that they use exactly the same amp on the T5V'S
I know what you are talking about..what helped me was that there was a knob at the back which boost the mids and highs, this helped a great deal. it's acceptable now
This is a bit of a random question Jef, but what TV are you using as a monitor? Did you have any concerns about hum or noise coming from a TV before purchasing?
I own a pair of the 5’s .they sound great. They only thing I would comment about is that they are build in China.Had to repair one that fell on the floor(animals)very cheaply build circuit board full of epoxy very hard to get to anything.Cheap plastic.Other than that great.
I'm currently using Old Version Mackie. HR824's. The low and low - mids are great, but the mid high's are not very detailed, and everything sound darker overall. How do these compare to the AH8"s? Last time I tried those they were pretty bright and "harsh" sounding. I mostly work with orchestral and cinematic music.
Thanks for the video.Does the power switch of automatically when not in use? Or is it okay to connect a power strip & control the on/off directly from the power strip rather than reaching all the way to the back panel of the speaker?
Hi Jeff, i bought a pair of these about a year ago in the uk i like them but i had nothing to compare as i was using some old Tannoy's which had no top end. learning a lot about Cubase from you please keep sharing.,any ideas on why Cubase keeps freezing up windows 10? Thanks.
@Jef, I have listened to the T5V and T7V. Do you have insight how Adam Audio is differentiating the T8V from the T7V (other than size)? Personally, the T7V was a bit too boomy for my small room studio.
They go lower, and they are louder than the others. Other than that they are very similar! I didn't;t mention the controls on the back to reduce/boost low frequencies or high frequencies, so you can tailor it a bit to your room. My room is very large, so I can't weigh in on them in a smaller room...
I had some t7’s in my cart a few times, but with a small space I was really concerned with the rear bass port being too close to the wall. Heard lots of accounts on both side as to weather it was a real concern or not, ended up buying the Kali IN-8’a instead. Front firing, with great room EQ options. Eventually I’d love to try the Adam Ax8’s though - been a fan of Adam for a long time, the Kali’s are amazing in my space though :)
@@MrMoviePhoneEx Genelec did a study and have a document out somewhere that showed that a rear firing port makes no difference compared to a front firing port near a rear wall.
Great Review. Off-topic question... What’s your opinion about working with one large monitor for music production? I’m building a new house & was gonna vertically stack two 27” monitors on the desk in my office. After watching this video I’m now having second thoughts. What say you?
Tough call! I like it a lot most of the time! I used to have 2 32" monitors PLUS a tv above that! I went down to about 35% screen real estate... makes managing windows a pain for sure. Hard on the neck... But I can work from the couch! Great for my RU-vid videos... But takes up a ton of space and causes me to have my monitors a little too far apart! Anyhow... I have a vid on it here! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9peNXAzjFlo.html
How is the midrange response? Im looking at these and the Kali Audio IN-8 for their extra mid-range driver, since I mix a lot of vocals and guitar. Will these do fine or do you think I should pay the extra $200 for a pair of IN-8s?
Hi guys im a rookie in audio . I got the Audioengine A5+ and want to upgrade to something better. I don't have a soundcard or card. Are these much better?
I'm trying to find that sweet spot with these and can't tell what is best, further or nearer. What do you think in terms of distance and spacing? I have a little more room to work with than you. Thanks!
I’d set all three controls at 0 to start. Then compensate if your system is too loud/ soft, or if you have frequency problems in your room (HF and LF) enjoy them!!
I’ve never listened to them, best to get to a brick and mortar store so you can compare! Our local music store would even let you buy both and return the ones you don’t want... always how I did these decisions in the past!
I've wanted to upgrade to some Adam monitors for a while so when I saw these come up they looked very tempting: great bass response for a small monitor and the price is definitely right. However, they're rear ported which pretty much rules them out for small rooms as you really need to leave a metre between the back of the speaker and any walls or other hard surfaces to avoid booming at the low end. Shame - I wish they could have made them a bit larger physically and front-ported them, but I guess I'll get another model.
Check the video on Adam's youtube page about speaker setup/placement. They claim that you can indeed have these monitors closer to a wall despite being rear-ported. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E9dpjdSQsXg.html
@@jefgibbons my t7vs are pretty close to my wall and don't boom like you'd expect at all. plus they have hi and low db settings on the back to tweak depending on your room size and acoustics
I have ordered one pair of Adam T8V from thomann and one of them is louder both gain knobs being at 0 db. Poor quality monitos, I will return them! 😂😂😂
It’s all about ACCURATE good bass. The rokit that’s similarly strong bass response (noticeably worse imo) but it’s the accuracy of T8Vs that really just make them the best to mix on. Anything more expensive is silly imo.
@@kevinhobbs125 thats fair, also 1st gen Rokits are 14 years old design, last 4th generation is totally different speaker, but people still bashing them as "boomy" for no reason
@@podfuk oh I don’t think they’re boomy, I’d love to mix on them especially for EDM. I just chose the adams because I work with mostly instrumental stuff and vocals and I need it ACCURATE af
Thank you for this review... I have yamaha hs-8's that i've had for 9 years... i'm due for an upgrade. Oh... and did you ever do a review on your Maschine Jam?
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Connor Tripp i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
In terms of accuracy I don't think it gets more bang for buck than Adams. I had the same experience with finding distortion in vocal tracks, etc. I had krks, tannoy, alesis Yamaha... They all pale in comparison almost like toys. Absolutely love the Adam sound. You mix on those and it translates well to almost anything. I have Adam F7s and a sub7, t8v is coming next week. Just watching this to get hyped 😁😎
Hi Jef. I am looking for a new monitor and having seen your monitors, I wonder what you think of working on a Ultrawide curved monitor. It looks great, but I wonder if it very practical to do Dorico and Cubase work on a curved screen. I also have my eyes on a Dell UltraSharp U4323QE 43" monitor. What would be your choice?
I recently purchased the Adams T5V and I love them. I'm using them with a Yamaha MG12XU mixer. I wasn't sure about buying them at first, because I didn't know much about Adams Audio. But I'm happy I bought them. I can only imagine what the T8Vs will be like. The highs and lows in my 20'x20' room are great for what I'm using them for.
This T8V monitor sounds really good, I have a pair of these and they're not expensive. Since they're so good, I decided to try Adam S3V and S5V, can't wait to get them.
@@jefgibbons I just received a pair of S3V. Sound quality noticeably is better than T8V, however S3V are a bit lacking low end. I did not play with EQ yet, I tested them with all settings flat. Within a month I should get S5V as well. :)
Controls on the back panel are real basic. Not sure if this thing has an auto power daving / auto off feature, and if it does, can it be defeated, i.e. switched off? Also, Adam Audio had somehow "forgot" to include a 1/4-inch TRS balanced input jack. How weird is that -- considering that 99% of the studio monitor controllers use 1/4-inch TRS and not XLR. So you could not even connect the T8V to the Mackie Big Knob with a standard TRS to TRS balanced cable, so disappoining. Whatever. I guess that is all that USD $300 "budget" will buy you these days.
I also had the T8V, however I liked the Presonus R80s better with a similar design. In particular, the transition from midrange to treble is much more pleasant with the Presonus. The very good tweeter of the T8V does not seem to be ideally combined with the PP woofer, I notice especially with vocals.
I had Yorkville’s and upgraded to the Adam’s about 6 month ago and love ‘em. Now my Yorkville sub isn’t cutting it. Mostly just use the Adam’s without a sub (don’t need it). Eventually, I’d like to get the matching Adam’s sub.
I always recommend the 8. If you can. It's more versatile, and you can equalize or just low a bit the bass. y have 2 krk rp8 G4 and 2 M- audio bx8. Sounds....amaaaaaaaaaaazing
Nice shirt! 😎 My old roommate got these - they sound super great. Kind of a hi-fi scooped sound but very detailed - definitely Adam precision on a budget. I went with Focal Alpha 65’s cuz they went a little extra lower for rap music but I LOVE the front to back depth on these monitors!!! 🔊 🔊
I think he had the smaller 7’s come to think of it. Make sure you check out those +2dB switches on the back! Made a huge difference for him since I think the high end might’ve been a litte hyped to start with! It was last year though so my memory’s kinda fuzzy! 😂 Enjoy!! 😎🤘
@@Boissinova Hey B! Yeah, these ones just came out so it was probably the 7s. In comparison they aren't as bright as the KRKs, they actually sound bright enough to me, but I do have a fairly treated room... Great speakers though!
See I'm leaning more towards the focal too because of them being front ported... But I can't deny that these Adams do sound decent so I just don't know
For mixing DJ in a 10m x 4m room , drumcode, techno, trap,... and connecting to pc for listening music to work on tracks, would you take those ones or, presorus e66 or presorus E8 XT ? Thx
I haven't used those monitors so I couldn't compare for you, but the low end on these guys is fantastic. I have a sub but it's been turned off since I got them! Best bet would be to get to a music store where you can test some out!
@@jefgibbons yes I think so too. But unfortunately in my town there are not a lot of choices... I like the adam audio but when I compare the characteristics, the E8 XT is more powerfull. Both seems great but I really need my room to be filled with sound and bass. Frequency range: 35 - 20000 Hz Crossover frequency: 2.2 kHz Gain control Center control (Bell EQ, 1 kHz, +/- 6 dB) Height control (Shelving filter, +/- 6 dB) Lowcut switchable at 80 or 100 Hz Acoustic space switch (-2 dB, -4dB) LF amplifier power: 75 W RF amplifier power: 65 W Maximum level: 105 dB (continuous operation) Input: XLR and jack (balanced) and RCA (unbalanced) Would you also recommand the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen to make the link between the monitors and the computer ? Pc desktop. Thx
@@jefgibbons I will sir no oroblem. I will make tests with my tracks references and will see quite fast if I need the subwoofer with them. I prepared my room today. I need 1.70 metres wide on the desk to put both speakers, and my 2 monitors. I am starting music creation as a hobby and I have a question. Do you have a good keyboard (midi) to recommand ? I am gonna use and start learning using cakewalk and will use my Denon Mc 7000 as an audio interface. My local dealer told me I could use it to make the work. There is a lot to learn 😋
