Warming up the crankcase with a hairdryer allows it to expand and easy installation of bearings rather than forcing a bearing into a tight hole eliminates any material being shaved off inside the bearing seat is better technique in my opinion!

It really depends on the conditions your running in and how hard you've been running the engine. In most cases, there's not much to checkout. If you see fuel from around or near the front bearing, it needs a new front bearing. If it's making additional noise, it needs a rear bearing. I also offer a service to look over and check the bearings, compression, o-rings, ect. adamdrake117@gmail.com

Hi, Adam! Great video! Thanks a lot! I know that its critical to keap your piston edges sharp, trying not to touch them while maintaining. Can a zip tie damage piston edges, especially when you're applying a lot of pressure to crankshaft for removing the sleeve?
@AdamDrake
@AdamDrake 5 лет назад
No, it shouldn't cause any problems unless it's some type of super rigid zip tie. :)
@ardesignsrc

Awesome video. Do you ever clean the top of the piston off? Or remove any of the buildup on the sides of the sleeve
@AdamDrake
@AdamDrake 5 лет назад
With Flash Point fuel you don't need to do this because it's a full synthetic based fuel and burns super clean. It's not a bad idea if your running a castor based fuel and have a lot of build up, but that build up is also helping to create a seal at top dead center.

Hello Adam, Thanks for another informative vid! Quick question - is the orientation of the clips which secure the pin inside the piston important? Usually the "end" of the clip faces up from factory - does it make any difference? Do you have any tips on how to remove/install them? :)
@AdamDrake
@AdamDrake 5 лет назад
I also adjust the orientation to have the end of the clip facing up, but I'm not sure if it makes much of a difference. I usually remove the clip with a hobby knife. Yes, installing them can be a pain. Sounds like a good video idea. :)

Sometimes due to my experience I worry about the amount of force that I'm applying to certain parts, and get stuck. Then learn it's ok to apply more force than I thought to get something out, like a sleeve from a used motor. Wouldn't polishing parts make breakdowns easier, or is it just window dressing? How often would you suggest to tear the engine down to take a look at things in-depth? Do you read your glow plugs as a tuning reference to see how things are going? If so could you make a video about that? If not please explain why it may not matter to you.

Dont ask me how I know . . . Dont even attempt till you have a bearing puller. And they arent inexpensive at $100 just for the tool. Your video is good, but there is one point you're wrong. A reverse mounted piston will not run because the crank will hit the piston. The problem will not be caused by the backplate it's rather the crank that will crush the piston. There is no engine a reverse mounted piston can run, even not with a short stroke engine. And it would be good to tell that the screws are always tightened crosswise. The max torque for M2 is about 0,5Nm and M3 is about 1,5Nm with 10.9 screws, therefore I would never use a powertool...

You sir are incorrect. There are engines that will run with a backwards mounted piston... I agree in most engines the piston skirt will strike the crank stopping it from turing over. ALL engines is not correct.. I have discovered this when helping a friend with a engine that just wasn't tunable... After about half a tank i told him bring it to the bench and we pulled it part only to find the piston was backwards... Never seen it before and flipped it around and needles to first start location and with in two laps had it ripping. After that time i have seen it a few more times.
