Matt Walst is actually really good live. However, after watching Saint Asonia live, Gontier is the better. I think Gontier is one the greatest male rock vocalists of his generation.
Literally just had this debate with someone using this band…it’s gross that Matt even gets to reap the benefits of Adam’s songs and talent he’ll never do them the same justice as the author just facts
@@GUNFU_U You're saying this like Matt got rid of Adam to be in the band. Of course these songs are written by Adam for HIS voice so Matt, who has a different voice and style, is going to sing it in a different way than it was intended and now they have released 3 albums with Matt, so it's not like they don't have original songs and are only exploiting Adam's past work. I can't understand all of this hate for Matt, he was chosen by the band after Adam left and he's doing his best and yet people keep whining about it. It's ok to prefer a singer more or dislike a certain style but then just ignore what doesnt cater to your taste and listen to Saint Asonia or the old TDG songs instead of complaining about something you can't change
I never said I didn’t like Matt or the songs he wrote and I do think it’s gross that he’s benefiting and playing music Adam wrote that’s all I said I didn’t shit on Matt as an artist I didn’t shit on the band I gave my opinion
That was actually the song that made me love Three Days Grace. I decided I'd rather feel pain from my trauma than try to bury it under substances or equally unhealthy habits. I became the only one out of all my friends who never developed a habit. I'm not scared of dying, but I'm not scared to live either, even if I know every day won't be a good day. Home is a crazy song to listen to when the first place I felt like nobody was going to try to hurt me was a homeless shelter. I want to live, I want to feel, and I might not win every time, but I won't be like the ones who came before me. I will live long enough to spit on their graves.
@@rosella5358I remember when i was 10, i got a PSP, and it came with a music disc. Home, was on it and the first time i heard 3DG. Along with Cold by Crossfade and a few others. That disc literally changed my life.
Well its not his song so he doesn't really have the soul to put in it lol. Of course hes just singing it, its not his song. He sings it because the fans want to hear it. Blame the fans, not Matt. Love both eras of 3DG. Dont compare them because they aren't the same lol
@@DefiantMistyou are dumb and delusional and clearly the kind of unintelligent dull person who thinks anyone can sing. Matt is garbage you could use any random guy and he would put him to shame. Matt can't sing seriously he's weak he sounds strained.
They both sound great honestly. I got to see both adam and matt perform together here in nashville on a few songs at the end of the show and man, what a treat that was! Both singers respect each other and are awesome.
@@CherriSkies no, and it's unfortunate because for a lot of us, 3DG was a massive part of our upbringing. Now it just feels like a washed up rehashing of what once was
Alterbridge as well. I also think a name change doesn't necessarily force you to have to do the previous singers songs. Velvet Revolver does GnR songs but I don't think Alterbridge has don't any Creed songs. I thing that could also be because Myles Kennedy can't even come close to Scott Stapp's voice but that's beside the point.
I don't care what anyone says, they are both incredible and Im just so grateful that I still had a chance to see 3DGs this past year twice!!! One of the best concerts I've ever been to, Matt's stage presence was out of this world❤❤❤❤
Adam was to Three Days Grace what Chester Bennington was to Linkin park. The difference was Adam left before the pressure claimed him. Adam poured his heart and soul in his music. The new guy just sings it and I feel the bad is in the same spot as Suicide Silence when Mitch Lucker died.
See I grew up with Adam too and I understand the viewpoint. All about opinions, I just gotta give some love to Matt cause You hardly see it and I honestly prefer Him. Like They came out with Adam AI singing some of Matt’s songs like So Called Life, The Mountain, Human Race Etc (also stating that cause if You prefer Adam you might think those are cool Af and ways to enjoy Matt’s songs more if You prefer Adam), And Theyre are some versions of Adams songs with Matt, Like The High Road, Chalk Outline, Riot, Etc (and If You prefer Matt in some songs vice versa to above parentheses lol). And the weird thing is I find myself listening to Matt’s versions of Adams songs over the originals and Matt’s versions of his own songs over the Adam Versions. I was shocked myself when I knew that was the opinion I have lol
It’s not that Matt just can’t hit his vocals. It’s the passion that Adam puts into his performance on stage & you can see it pouring out of him with those cleans mixed with screams. Matt just sings it like he learned the song 10 minutes ago & is trying his best to remember the lyrics.
I dont know about that my guy i remember him coming to downtown austin texas and he was basically pouring his heart out to the fanson stage it may look like not that much but its so much different in person
Yep, you hit the nail on the head. Have you seen the video of Adam saying, "I'm tired of seeing this band play karaoke versions of songs that I f'n wrote"
@@chose_this_on_the_toilet even in this performance, adam's vocals were getting fried/tired...and he still sounds better singing these songs than matt. and its cuz his voice/the band was built around this sound...even the newer 3dg songs dont sound that great with matt, better than the covers, for sure.
@@TheSinBin512 drastic comparison, matt in the 3dg band (keeping the 3dg 'sound') imo, is like putting an opera singer on metal, sometimes a few songs sound good, other times, it just doesnt 'fit'
Yea I just saw Matt live in early October, no replacing Adam sure, but it still is one hell of a show, Matt really tries and has a really good character, I think out of all the possibilities of a new lead singer, Matt is a good place to have settled
I think their new songs with Matt are really really great but of course Matt is not going to do Adam's songs better and I think Matt has shown real strength of character and humility in his willingness to sing Adam's songs knowing fans will always wish they were being sung by Adam. So, yes, of course I think Adam does it better but in concerts I think we should all show a little "Grace" (pun intended) to Matt for being willing to take the flack to keep those songs in the set!! 😊
They are both good, this song is made by Adam, composed to be performed by Adam, in front of people who want Adam sing it. No wonders that Matt's performance sounds a bit "weird" or any word you want to describe it with.
im just not use to matt yet it will grow on me one day but i just perfure adam, adam is also my favriote and half there music i listened to was adam singing. but matt is good to ill get used to matt we all will at one point
That's pretty much all the difference is; Adam wrote the song. And now, it's Matt's job to perform all these songs respectfully to the best of his ability. It's really not that Matt is bad, or untalented. Adam's part of the setlist is just always gonna sound like a cover.
Three days grace is not three days grace without Adam Gonteir. Hands down!!! I fell in love with the band when it was the OG crew as a teen in the early 2000's.❤
I think both of them are awesome! Of course Adams was the original singer and he is so talented but I've seen Three Days Grace live this past summer and I absolutely loved Matt! Honestly he put on one of the best concerts I've ever been to
I really enjoy both of these guys and I’m glad that the band has had both of them during their time. I think obviously Adam is on a very elite level of greatness. But Matt has really come on strong starting out with the band. There are some songs he absolutely owns. I would love to see them do a concert together if they haven’t already. But I really dig this band. Here’s my top 10. Curious to see if anybody else wants to list theirs: Pain Painkiller Home Mountain I hate everything about You Animal Machine Time of Dying Just like You The Good Life
IMO, Both very good just different. Adam is more gritty, raw and explosive. Matt is more consistent, clear and composed. Of course most people will favor the original that's just natural. But props to Walst, he does a great job keeping the live show going.
I've stopped listenning to TDG after Adam's departure. The name is the same, but the music are not, this is just not Three Days Grace but just another band with the same name.
Me too.... Adam was Three Days Grace.... they had to start a new band with another name and start from 0 like Adam did ...but now slowly slowly Saint Asonia will become much bigger than Three Days Grace... I truly believe
@@AceofSpades-j2hwhy do these clowns all whine about the same thing and say they don't like three days grace anymore and still comment it on every video they can find? Do you guys just not have a life? also saint asonia ever becoming bigger than three days grace is the funniest thing I've heard this year even my darkest has more listeners than them
Matt looked like a normal dude when he was in my darkest days, it looks like three days grace has made him as depressed as their music would lead you to believe they are
that's just the stage personality, off stage he looks totally like any normal dude you'd see in a grocery store!😄 very, very normal.... and adorable with his new daughter!
Exactly. Matt has some very powerful vocals on his songs. Adam put so much passion into his songs, it’s hard to picture anyone else singing them. Respect to both.
@triciac3100 yeah kind of how I felt about replacing Kevin of Evans Blue. He was the emotion and the story teller. They ditched him for the better "frontman". Hey business is business, but it can obviously suck for the fans
I hate how replacement singers are always so heavily criticized. They took the role of carrying on a band knowing they would not be the same, but try there best and continue to keep their band moving forward and putting at music for their fans. Ppl just love to hate
Adam did great with the songs he helped build, Matt does really good (I think) with the songs HE helped build, ei: I am Machine, Pain Killer are amazing!
I hate seeing people diss Matt because he knows that people don't like him as much as Adam but their new stuff still sounds badass. Yeah, it's weird to hear Matt sing older songs, but if he didn't then they'd lose a lot of their live audience.
Yeah Matt’s a great singer especially when it comes to the stuff he’s written, but I think it’s a fair criticism to point out he struggles with the songs Adam wrote.
I agree with that they’re new albums are good and Matt doesn’t sound bad at all singing older songs it’s just not the original so the older fans won’t like it as much
Adam had that distinct grit to his vocals that made the song heavy and emotional, he also had the ability to write powerful lyrics nothing against Matt but Adam was and will be 3 days grace
I heard both live, both are very good and bring different abilities to the group. I reapect why they made a switch. Wish both the best! But i will remain a fan of 3DG!!!!!
Matt Walsh to TDG fans: No matter how hard I tried, your NEVER satisfied! Adam Gontier to TDG Members: This is not my home, I think I'm better off alone!
At least with the self titled, One-X, and Life Starts Now albums, Adam wrote his own lyrics and a lot of it focused on things he experienced. Its more of singing his emotions of something he experienced than emotionally invested.
Adam just had that irreplaceable edge to his voice. He had it in every song. Matt has to try very hard to replicate it (and he does very well in songs like “so called life” and “painkiller”) but it’s not just intrinsic like it was with adam
I like both their voices, BUT I'm definitely more into and connected to Matt's voice. it's just absolutely amazing! just saw them in concert at the Moda in Portland last month...EPIC!!!!!!
Nah bro go listen to this show live at the palace. He blew his voice out here cause it was the last song and they mixed this with hey man nice shot and he lost it. The rest of the show is insane and sounds just like the live album.
Holy hell, Adam is putting his heart into doing the chorus live. Matt’s performance just feels more robotic since it isn’t his song, I’m sure he puts more into the songs he actually wrote since he doesn’t want to mess them up.
Matt's vocals aren't meant for the old songs. Adam just had the emotion that was necessary to make the lyrics feel real. Adam's vocals helped shape my teenage self so i guess I'm a little biased.
Three Days Grace is one of the only times where their replacement worked. Adam is of course great and as the original he made 3DG, but Matt carried on the legacy amazingly and fitted the band into his style which worked. Also I love Matt from My Darkest Days 💀
Adam has my favorite vocals of all time. Something about the way his voice hits.. Is unmatched. Matt is wickedly talented.. And the songs they wrote FOR him, he slays. But when they try to play the old songs, with Matt singing them... It sounds like a terrible night at a karaoke bar.
Not only I'd Adam better, their live performances are also enhanced by the fact that Adam plays rhythm guitar much more often, which prevents some of their live songs from sounding flat these days. They r both good, for the record.
The problem lies with the fact that Adam was the one who wrote the song for himself and looked for what suited him the best. He poured his emotions into it. Matt is amazing in his own way.
