Matt gave Adam a chance to rock out on Compsure during the last show of the tour at the Theater of Living Arts in Philly. Back stage passes for the win! What an awesome night, unreal.
It's good because Adam and Matt use the exact same setup and they have the exact same style. I love this video beause it shows that no matter how big your band gets, you always remember your friends
Ive been watching adam and matt when I first heard them around 07/08. I've seen so many people fight over this. Here's what I believe. Matt Greiner is great and has a good style that everyone thought was amazing. A lot of kids copied his set up, style, and signature head bobbing (including me). Obviously Adam looked up to Matt and did what most of us did. You're a fool if you say alot of TIJs sound wasnt inspired by them looking up to ABR. Nothing wrong with that all. Plus theyre good friends, same hometown etc. Simple fact of the matter is that whether Matt really gave Adam lessons or not; the student has now become the teacher. Adams technique has improved to near robotic perfection, all while (until recently) doing stick flips flawlessly in time, thus spawning a new generation of kids wanting to be like him now (Luke Holland and etc). Sure Matt is still a legend and writes great drum parts, but in terms of TECHNIQUE, Adam simply just got better. And any experienced drummer knows that technique rules all. Just watch ANY video of them playing and compare. Adam adopted Matts straight posture but got rid of the stiffness; he always looks more comfortable. And the fact that they have more or less the exact setup should show who commands and moves around the kit with ease and fluidity. This s probably the longest RU-vid comment Ive ever written, but I love these drummers ad their bands, and Im tired of seeing people argue haha. Fact is, Adam Gray wanted to be Matt Greiner so bad, that he eventually became better. He outGreinered Matt Greiner and is now a legend on his own. Ive played drums for 16 years and Ive followed both bands since 07/08 as they were and still are my favorite bands, so please dont be mean amd say I dont know what im talking about. Just my two cents. Here comes the hate.
+John Abueg I agree. Adam looks more relaxed and in control while playing. He is loose and his swivel foot technique is impressive. He seems to play effortlessly due to his technique. Matt is more stiff, resembles a robot at times. Both are amazing drummers but I would take Adam
you said it very well - the student becomes the teacher. there is nothing wrong with this, as a community of fans and fellow drummers (myself included), nobody should be arguing over who is "better" or deserves more credit....they're both amazing behind the set... plain and simple.
When he was 15 he wrote Luke the Duke of Funky Town with his band at the time Oceans Will Part. You try and track drums like that. That shit is made dope.
Dude you're an inspiration to alot of people including me so fuck the haters. If I remember corretcly you started off making superb RU-vid videos and grew on from there so as a musician I can respect that ALOT.
exactly people who just hate on other people they dont know, adam is a beast hes a great drummer, and matt is an amazing drummer as well, they are my influences at the moment and they should be for any drummer that wants to be GOOD. of course always practice with 1 pedal as well.
Who would have ever thought such amazing drummers would come from my home town. And I mean not just amazing but world class amazing! Throw Grant McFarland in there too for good measure
having spectated luke's progress over the last 4-5 years, i can honestly say his success has gotten to his head. it's no coincidence a lot of people seem to feel that way. some might call it jealousy, which is BS as there are hundreds of better drummers out there who i don't feel this way about.
Exactly bro. ive been following you since i was 16. youve taught me alot by watching my videos, id be no wheres without you. id love to chat about some stuff sometimes or have you watch my videos idk. im also self taught and i was teaching at 14. we are prodigys i just need to show the world my talent :)
Luke, Just know that I'm always going to look up to what you are able to do. Nothing you have ever done has been disappointing. And if anything, I would kill to meet you. You're my idol when it comes to drums. Don't ever let "them" tell you otherwise.
Am I the only one that noticed that he kind of lost tempo at about 2:30. Maybe it was just my computer lagging. Regardless , still one of my favorite drummers. So amazing man.
how come these two guys are so similar? does anyone know if they were taught the same or grew up together or something? theyre identical! this guy is flawless!
Honestly, I wouldn't consider this bragging. People hate on Luke on a DAILY basis just because he's successful. Nobody wants to put in the work he did to become as well known. They think he's just a guy who has a good bag of tricks. It's not like he covers simple songs; They're pretty complex songs. And if someone were to come at me and question all the work I've ever done, I would list my accomplishments too just in case someone would dare think I didn't WORK MY ASS OFF to get where I was.
Depends on the drummer's preference. Most drummers want a similar sounding bass drum, and it's difficult to tune a double kick to sound identical, which is again what most double kick players want.
Are you serious? @LukeHollandDrums is an amazing drummer the videos of him of his own recording and of him in his band are absolutely amazing! i would give an arm and a leg to be able to play half as good as he is, In my books by all means Luke has all rights to brag as much as he likes, he has tried hard for years, has become acknowledged and is now drumming for a professional band, if you ask me, Luke Holland is someone we should look up to and aspire to be. Not someone to criticize!
what bell is that she hit? i see mentioned it was the ice bell, but isnt that typically on his ride? and it didnt sound like the 7" he usually uses, is it the 9" or the radia cup by chance?
If I remember correctly, he was trying to defend the fact that he was filling for Adam when he was 15, and all this other stuff about how he's the greatest RU-vid drummer, or whatever.
Flawless performance. everything was perfect. although i noticed he didnt do the double quad bass drum strokes at 2:25. dont blame him though, matt is a beast. good job!
Adam signed a truckload of endorsements deals lately ! That's why he might not be playing Vic Firth's anymore ! I know he endorses Sabian and Seven Drumworks now !
