Do you ever feel like you’re in your own way? Like the only obstacle stopping you from achieving success is your own lack of self-belief? This is something pop icon and Queen front man Adam Lambert has spent a career navigating.
‪@AdamLambert‬
In this chat with Fearne, Adam opens up about how he came to understand that he has anxiety. Looking back, he’s clear that having to supress his queer identity for a long time compounded his stress, and that while becoming famous alleviated some stresses, it created many others, including a huge pressure to constantly perform at a high level. They also talk about the positive impact Adam’s personally found taking medication has had on his mental health.

Adam, I relate to your story so much. From the dizzy spells, to the health neurosis. It's more common than we think. When your body is in fight or flight mode for too long, it starts to send you signals to say, "Hey, listen, you are stressed". Anxiety is so complex, it can really creep up on you. And it manifests so differently from person to person. The mind and body connection is truly fascinating!

This is exactly what I just mentioned. My son suffered from this and vestibular migraine.

Depression and anxiety are genuine medical conditions that need treating. I’m a doctor and I take my antidepressants everyday and will happily do so forever. ❤

They’re not for everyone and certainly shouldn’t be prescribed like tictacs. Personally I’ve had terrible problems on them. If they are going to be prescribed there should also be a clear pathway to weaning off them too

@@hummingbird4934 I find a lot of people who have problems on them, did not wean on them slowly and had avoidable side effects, or, they didn’t take them every single day like clockwork, which makes you very unwell and they won’t work. You’re, right, they are not for EVERYONE. They are for people with genuinely diagnosed depression or anxiety disorders and there’s so so many to choose from if many don’t agree with you there’s always other options.

All I can say is well done Adam in being so active in trying to work out what exactly was going on. My son suffered with dizziness and vertigo called vestibular neurosis and vestibular migraine due to stress after he graduated from University 5 years ago. He was so unwell he was unable to even look at any electronic screen because of the waves of nausea it created. (Difficult having just graduated in Computer science 🙈). Now, 5 years on, we realise he has OCD. OCD can take many many forms, it's not just about checking stuff, it can also be purely obsessive in natue. Obsessive about any and everything including health, religion, etc

Just went on meds for anxiety at 72. I had a lot of his same symptoms. Wish I would’ve gone on meds sooner. Some folks have to take them their whole life and I think I’m one of those people. Hope he stays on his meds longterm now. Such a talented guy. Saw him perform with Queen. One of the best concerts ever. 💕

This could absolutely be anxiety but a lot of auto immune issues can cause this. Also, I struggled for years and finally was diagnosed with MCAS which was the source of my issues. A lot of times physical issues cause anxiety and then anxiety makes it worse or anxiety can trigger physical. These things are no joke so do not accept any doctor dismissing you as all in your head. I don’t care who they are. Find someone else.

Perfectionism is the highest form of self abuse however musicians and athletes need that quest for perfection to feed their psychosis
