Oh.. Forgot to pin a comment... 😂 Thanks for watching! So, what about some suggestions for my: - Ship Name? - Faction Name? Let me know what you think about my ideas on progression?
why not do the scrapyard survival BUT the only refinery you get from the start is the survival kit .you have to steal beg or borrow the better refineries and assemblers .... since the idea behind a survival kit is basic self contained survival .... everything else you have to relearn and reteach the computer .. tbh there are only really two options ... no progression or max progression
I agree that the hacking module is a bit overpowered and makes takeovers too easy but have you looked at Cooperative NPC Takeover? This mod let's you take over a grid once you have hacked the remote control, all flight seats/control seats/cockpits and all cryochambers. You still have to fight your way past all ship defences to be able to do that, it's not just a 'bolt-on module & fly away till it's yours' mod.
building a ship in space is really hard i think it is looking great but do not worry about looks or size of ship worry about function and defence looks do later great job well done
Yeah, for the moment defense is very low - simply because of the lack of ammo and not being able to craft it. We will see how this goes in the next episode. 😂
Very good starter build. Your shipbuilding skills are good enough. It works and looks decent enough. Rememeber, you start from scratch.... Keep it up. Thanks for uploading.
Loving the ship! It kinda gives either gunship or cargo ship vibes!! Faction could just be “Bee” I think that’d be pretty neat and definitely love the black and yellow idea! You could also name your ships after similar creatures so bee, wasp, sting those kinda things, you could also paint that ship like a bee! Black butt and black stripes where the ridges are and the rest yellow
The channel colors would go great on a ship. I just found your channel and enjoy your content. You are spot on in the flow and don't let it get boring. People like to see all aspects but not repeatedly. So skipping ahead is great at times. As far as faction name, I like The Risky Buisness. Keep up the good work!
I like the ship design. You could call it the Pushmepullyou considering its mirrored nature. I like the idea of leaning into your bee theming so maybe call it the Larvae. Something bee related is near compulsory for your faction. Could maybe use HEX though as it is the shape of the cells in a hive.
It was fun seeing this ship come together. I'm not a great ship designer either and we seem to have very different approaches, so seeing so different a style was fascinating. The insides are going to be very tight though, if you want more than just a cockpit. I was thinking similarly, in that it might need nacelles later... though with a few more right/left & up/down engines, this ship itself might make a good nacelle for a much larger ship. One to detach for closer inspection of wrecks. Or if you decide to use the AI systems, to turn the nacelles into weapons platforms independent of that larger ship. I don't have name suggestions. But for color scheme, I like the white base. Perhaps something with a bold primary accent, blue red or green. You could use an LCD (if you have access to building them) and put the channel image on the ship as a logo. I look forward to seeing this ship fly, and what you're able to salvage next.
I would use the starting ship as just that. Build a base around it from scavenged stuff so you can use it as an escape ship. Strip it back to a mobile base while building an asteroid base that you can sacrifice if things go wrong. That would give you a path that the main ship started out on.
You showed me a few things that I could be doing to better set-up my large grid starship, through the use of contour blocks and spacing of thrusters/equipment. This is really shaping up nicely. You could call your faction "The Hive", "The Honey Comb", "Bees Wax" to be working off of your channel name. Speaking about what to do with your ship (I know this is about 2 months late) perhaps using this ship as a standalone first, then repurpose it into a MAIN ship, where it would just be placed into it as a set of thrusters and/or storage (if you have the room in this new ship). Very fun episode!
You can hack the batteries. if your extremely careful you can hack until the computers are removed, then cut the battery out from the surrounding blocks and weld it and you should now own it. - Faction name "Galactic Empire" (based on the "foundation series by isaac asimov) and you did name your ship Foundation. - Ship name also from book. Deliverance.
Yeah, It is a gamble though... The only batteries I successfully been able to hack on a regular basis are the small grid ones.. So for the moment, I prefer to keep the Batteries intact until I can get power cells from somewhere else
SE It's all about making the right decisions. You don't need two tanks and two gyros. You need to get a flyable ship as quickly as possible. Then you add extra components.
You can use merge blocks to join Gyros into the build but you need to cut out the block it's going to sit on and the surrounding blocks for manoeuvring, then merge that block into the space. When I was early on in my scrapyard playthrough and I was scrambling for resources I got pretty practiced at this (in small grid) and it's become a habit to not 'waste' resources to merge a gyro. This is an interesting playthrough and a nice take on the scrapyard in space theme.
Thank you. Yeah, the problem with merging blocks, is that it does need a lot of space to maneuver, Did not feel like grinding away part of the hull, so I preferred using the welding pads for the gyro's 😊
Milestone to unlock Grind to Learn sounds good! I'd say capturing an active large grid NPC ship would be a good goal. Installations are mostly a matter of time, since the player has so much control over how to approach it. You mentioned bulkheads. On the topic of practicing ship construction, this is just some thoughts I've had. Feel free to ignore or use as you like! On many of my ships, I'll build a skeleton or frame of continuous armor blocks. Light armor if that's all I have, or heavy armor if I can afford the metal grids (ha ha) or the mass in the ship's thrust/weight budget. Then I try to mount my most important functional blocks on this skeleton/frame. It's a good place to mount gyros -- a heavy armor block is unlikely to be destroyed quickly, which prevents a loose gyro from bouncing around inside the ship like a wrecking ball. Some ships I'll make this frame more internal (smaller, fewer blocks, less mass), like just a spine and some ribs. Other ships I'll make this frame more external, like a cage on which to mount slabs of light armor. Even without armor slabs, the frame can help shelter functional blocks because it sticks out more. (Incidentally, if you are all about meta tricks, I remember some players using 10-block long lines of light armor or anything cheap, as feelers or whiskers. THis is b/c the game stops calculating pass-through collision damage after... 5 blocks? So a ship that looks like a catfish with those long whiskers could run face first into a planet and suffer zero damage other than breaking off a few of these 10-block whiskers; after the first collision, the ship has scrubbed all of its velocity off. On some ship designs that I want to be sturdier, I'll actually make solid walls of heavy armor as full bulkheads that fill in the ribs of the skeleton. On a vertically oriented ship, these bulkheads can also act as floors. They are only pierced with maybe 1 or 2 holes for conveyor lines and doors, which makes it easy to incorporate these full bulkheads into airtight compartments. These are all ideas I got from Digi or whoever made the Water mod, in one of their videos on SE water mod buoyancy. Ship spines, ribs, water/airtight compartments, etc. For aesthetics or story purposes, this method can also help you to space out a ship into equally sized sections, so that it's not just a jumbled mess of functional blocks stuck to each other (as I've said, this is my first reflex whenever I build without a plan). :D
Yeah, I think that will be the direction we are going. I am thinking of traveling to a planet/moon start collecting small grids to be able to make a small grid fighter and perhaps drones. Because I am sure I will not survive an attack by myself. And I also need a 2nd Survival kit before I attempt it. So this means the progression is well blocked behind a decent fight.
28:40 there was also a research station mod on the workshop. You could teach that station even other mod blocks if i remember correctly. Though the grind to learn 2 mod seems more convenient.
Yeah - I could do some adjustments to make it look like a ship, but I believe keeping it the shape it is now, would fit well for later to expand from it.
🐝Faction names, hive, helix, cell, apiary, nest, colony, swarm. Ship names, drone, century, worker, thorax, mandible, larva. Bees, hornets, and wasps come in the color of the rainbow. keeping with your bee theme, as you play through saving some of the cooler names for more combat ship, or other specific rolls.
I little late to the game here, but I think I recall watching Splitsie where he took control of various blocks by owning the bulk of the grid around them, which allowed him to take control. I could be completely wrong but if you add blocks one at a time to your main ship and keep the grid separate can you not tak ownership of the other modules?
You should attach your gyro on the blocks in the middle instead of the hull. right now if your hull get destroy the gyro are going to fly away inside your ship and cause dammage
I already have been recording the 3rd Episode, and the Gyro's have been moved to the bottom of the ship, they are not on the spine, just because it is too hard for now to get them into the narrow spaces (as I need to weld-plate them).
Its more of a collection of mods, which means you will need to subscribe to each of them and then add them to your World. I am still learning how to make scenarios, so that is not something I can sort out yet. Ofcourse, most of these mods will only really works on PC.
I want to repair the Foundation one day to its original look. So I want to keep the foundation out of danger as much as possible.. haha. I might even build a museum or something with the foundation in it.. 😅
