Can't imagine why they made the hardy hole so big. My very old Peter Wright has a nominal 1 1/8" hardy hole, and I've ended up just making new hardy tools that fit rather than dealing with the slop of an adapter. Both ways work!

This is a great way to adapt a Hardy hole. Trying to build up tools would take forever and just make a mess of the tools.

Roy, I've got that very same anvil in 132 lb weight. I was wondering what I was going to do about that huge hardy hole in the anvil. I'd ordered up a hardy cone with a 1" shank and it is loose and sloppy. Thanks to you, Thomas, and your informative video here I can now see about making up a hardy plate to take up the space to make my hardy cone snug. Keep up the good work sir!!!!!!

Roy, you could get a short length of thick walled square tube the same OD as the hardy hole and cut v notches in one end. Then weld it to your plate for a snugger fit. I had the reverse problem going from a 30mm hardy to a 25mm. I remade all my hardies! Cheers from Western Australia.
