Its so inconvenient how GoPro doesn't have a desktop solution for the newer cameras. What professional videographer with large file videos edits on their phone?
Well here are a couple things to consider. First, professional videographers wouldn't use Quik for Desktop either...they'd use Adobe Premiere or Final Cut to edit. And in the case of adding GPS Stickers which does requires the mobile Quik app, I've never found a professional application for using GoPro GPS stickers aside from just making a fun demo video like this. On the rare occasion I might need to, I'll deal with the mobile Quik app.
@@EdRickerVlogs I am using it in a case where we want the speed data on the video for protoyping/testing review. I am pulling video into Final Cut Pro to edit down clips for showing the team but do not have the time to import all the videos to my phone, add stickers, export and then transfer from my phone to the computer for editing. I purchased the $100 telemetry software today and it seems to work very well for adding the telemetry data and exporting the video
Wow dude the shots at the beginning are so unbelievable! Good job! Btw the gps altitude reading on the gopros are indicated at above mean sea level. So you have to take your field elevation height into account.
Thanks for the tip! I thought that might be the case, but there's still too much deviation and discrepancy midflight. Still not accurate enough to be reliable.
Thanks Ed you're awesome, I actually had the gopro 5 that didn't give any sign of life last week. A week ago I bought the Hero 8 Black. Nothing went the way I was used to. I tried again and again to use Quick desktop and it didn't work. Saving the video takes a long time. I think this is a gopro joke. I found Quick desktop much better, no idea what Gopro wants to achieve with this. This video is very helpful, thanks again.
what a great video, thank you. I have a question please. my hero 7 black told me that my card was corrupt and that the speed overlay would not work. i bought a new card and now I am told gps was not turned on. IT WAS ON . any ideas? I think I need to give up on gopro....
Thanks for sharing, this is why I’m so frustrated with the GOPro dev team. Why and why you change from the Quik app to the iOS or Android app instead? I bought the new GoPro(8,9,10) and now I have to GPS telemetry on the iPhone. It seems like the GoPro dev team don’t give a shit about their customers need.
Apparently, according to someone on the GoPro public forums, the GoPro devs announced in a shareholder meeting that they would be releasing a new desktop version of the software. When? Not sure. But hopefully soon. Until then, GoPro Quik for Desktop is considered legacy software.
I just want to say THANK YOU! so much for making this video tutorial. Ive had my Hero 10 since Launch day and was really disappointed that only my Hero 5 would connect properly to the gopro software and couldn't do that with the hero 10 black. I didnt know this feature was free so i never bothered to try and learn how to use the app for the hero 10 lol. I bought a Segway Ninebot Max G2 and want to do some videos on range test with all its modes and wanted to get a Mph read on the screen. With your video i am now able to do that. Thanks again, it was very well explained.
I much preferred the more detailed versions of the speedometer and other overlays the desktop app made, can the mobile app not make them like the desktop app? I don't like the overly simplified look of the mobile app overlays.
I have a GoPro Hero 5. For some reason the desk top Quik app doesn't support overlays anymore. I have my GPS turned on, it's white and locked. When I put my footage into Quick (desktop) is says no GPS data. I can see it using the phone method so I know I have it. Seems like a pain to have to use a phone to get overlays and I don't have enough storage space on my phone. ugh. Any ideas?
I have the hero 11 black that I didnt even realize could do this. It works perfectly however neither screen works because I've crashed the rc car it was mounted to a few times lol. Still turns on though and works perfectly with the app and I typically have it in a strong case now so i wasnt in a rush to fix the screens. Is there a way to turn on the gps function through the app or do i HAVE to do it on the gopro itself?
Thanks! It's a custom built Armattan Marmotte frame with a mishmash of parts. You can see the parts I use now here: kit.co/EdRickerVlogs/dji-digital-fpv-quad-armattan-marmotte
Thanks for the video and awesome footage. I was wondering if you are aware of a way to adjust the sync of the gps data with the video? Unfortunately some of my clips are out of sync and it makes for really frustrating viewing.
Hi there! I have a GoPro 11 Black. When I add the telemetry from my Mobile Quik App the quality of the video compresses it to 1080p. Is there a way to add it to the original 4K quality?
For sure! It's pretty much 24/7 medical offices now so not really flyable these days except for a one-pack guerilla rip, but we had a good run of the place from 2018-2020 when it was being renovated inside.
I wish GoPro has a kmph option for their speed for us folks over here in Europe 😆 on another note I was thinking of getting a wing to try it out the other day, but then I remembered the barn chase videos and seeing this case as well make me think you can fly loops around a fixed wing with a modern quad. No point really, unless you are cruizing 😆
It really depends what you mean by "flying loops around". Yes a quad is more nimble, can stop on a dime, hover, whatever, but an FPV wing can be much faster for a straight line or during power loop maneuvers. Shelby definitely has to hold his speed back when I want to chase him so I don't ruin my quad LiPos. That's another reason why he needs a large sprawling location to fly and I don't. I can fly a quad around a small playground and have a good time, but he needs an entire campus lol.
It has a km/h function, for the early models you can change to metric in settings, for the newer ones ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UBjax6vgIk4.html
Interesting video. I don't own a GoPro (I have a DJI Osmo Action) and was looking for GPS tagging my footage when I ran into this. The DJI Osmo Action's mobile app does not have any feature to add those fancy stickers. As for the GoPro, I was wondering if I could edit the time/date format of the timestamp + if I could add the latitude/longitude of a place on to the video footage?
Question for all the GoPro folks: …as someone who is in need of a newer GoPro, would you say the desktop software is easier to use, or the mobile app? My current legacy camera is a hero 4; I can get really good pricing on a Hero7 silver or black secondhand (that would still support the desktop software). Looking for feedback from people who have gone deeper into this before. Trying to decide this week. Thanks in advance! 🍻
It's easier IMO to work with desktop software. Either way though, you'll need capable computing power. A cheap phone or a cheap computer will provide for a frustrating and slow experience for the app or desktop software respectively. I'd never attempt to run the GoPro software on my parents' laptop sufficient for websurfing and not much else, but it works great on my homebuild video editing PC.
gopro quik for desktop doesn't work. It asks to create account but the desktop version has been discontinued. You can't login, thus, you can't access the features of the quik anymore
So sad that now it's not that easy as it was back then. You basically can't do anything but only reels with that quik joke that is lagging as hell. Great video tho.🤟
For some reason, I cannot get this to work with any of my clips. GPS is on and is highlighted in white telling me it is activated. When I go to add the overlay, nothing happens. 🤔
Is there a way to transfer edited video on the Quik phone app to the desktop and keep the GPS data? When I transfer the file, the desktop Quik says the GPS Data is not there.
I am using the GoPro Karma drone with Hero 5 Black, but as soon as the camera is in the drone it stops recording gps or other metadata to the photos/videos. I have have read that others have the same problem. What quadcopter are you using? Thanks.
So I just went through this evolution on some 2.7K 60fps high bitrate footage from my Hero 9 and I'm not liking what the overlay exports out to. Even after tapping the gear cog on the share to local phone settings and selection the higher bit rate I have confirmed the following: Source Video HVEC mp4 is 100040kbps 59.94fps and audio 189kpbs sample rate 48khz... Exported Quick: Video 52899kbps 60.01fps and audio 127kbps sample rate 44.1khz NOT GOOD!
How do you go about customizing how the data looks? Such as changing what the speedometer looks like or adding the info on the right side at the end of the video.
If you're using a newer GoPro, you can only use the phone app to add the info which severely limits what you can do. Desktop version is for Gopro 5-6-7 and lets you add more info and move it around
great video! does yours take a while to get a gps signal? I use mine gopro 10 as a dash cam and it doesn't get speed half the time. i've heard that the satelites are overwhelmed with the russia conflict
Hi Ed, I have a quick few questions. Is it possible to do a wing chase with the DJI FPV drone? And if so have you/or will you ever do it? Awesome video by the way, I love watching you're chase videos.
Thanks! Well I did end up selling the DJI FPV drone. I wasn't flying it very much and wanted the cash. But if I ever get the opportunity again I'm sure I will!
@@EdRickerVlogs thanks for the reply my brother. I finally upgraded from a tiny whoop to a full sized fpv (DJI FPV to be exact lol) I'm loving flying and its a hobby that well worth the fun. Hope to see you in the skies one day in person.
That's because it's in the video clip itself. There is no extra data file. You can extract it if you want to using the GoPro Telemetry Extractor I refer to in the video. That's not necessary to do to use the Quik app however. It runs directly from the video clip.
Thanks so much! I don’t think I would have ever figured this out! I road cycle a lot and this is soooo cool to bring into my videos! Question is the telemetry software really with the price over this?
Greate stuff. I was able to apply the stickers on my video-clips on Quick. But when I use those clips with the telemetry data to make a whole video-film (Studio in the quick app), the telemetry is not showing. Do you know why?
A few issues come to mind when doing that. First, enabling GPS on the GoPro might mess with the clip's gyro data required for Reelsteady. That's why I normally turn GPS off if I plan to use Reelsteady. But let's say it ends up working. The next question is, will Quik export out a rendered clip with gauges that still has the gyro data baked in for Reelsteady to use next? No idea, but worth a test for sure.
Hello, you know the new version of quik by gopro. I used the app, but it closes immediately or stays in standby mode for a long time. what do you know about this? Thanks.
But I want, micro SD reader fast DL to my PC dump folder, weed out using VLC, add media to Vegas 19, create 2.7K proxies, edit/color grade, add over lay inside Vegas, done...FTW. This Quick app and phone headache is BS! BTW, what's the propulsion on that delta wing you're chasing?
@@EdRickerVlogs last time I flew a RC delta wing made of EPP foam it used a ni-cad battery, "brushed" DC motor and a front mounted prop. I was waiting for some future tech response that explained the red glow on the aft end, like a neutron emitter or something like that?
Hi Ed I have a go pro black 11 and for some strange reason, I can’t highlight and use the stickers, I’ve even attempted to subscribe to the go pro subscription and still no luck. My gps is on, so it’s a mystery. Do you have a solution, the go pro customer services is a nightmare to contact. I would appreciate a recommendation if you have one. Thanks in advance and have a great day. 😊😎
Hi, do you know for sure that you have a GPS lock? Turning GPS on is one thing, but making sure the GoPro has had time to lock onto satellites before recording is also necessary. You likely won't get a GPS lock indoors or maybe even on an overcast day outdoors.
@@EdRickerVlogs thank you, I shall have another look, however most of my filming is done with the gps signal turned on and outside. It’s a mystery to me, as my friend is able to use the feature. Have a great day and take care.
I was flying a custom Armattan Marmotte for some of it, and a custom HGLRC Sector 7 for other parts. One of the wings I was chasing was a Ritewing Spec v3 I believe. Not sure what the other one was.
So I have to add this, one by one to all the clips that GoPro automatically cuts, on one single video, then save it on my phone, and then send it to my PC ? Wow, I hate this company. They should make an PC app or some sort of a plugin for video editors like VegasPro, DaVinci that can let you transfer the video from GoPro to PC directly, add the clip to the editor and use the plugin to enable telemetry and position it anywhere. This is just frustrating, what a garbage company that never listens to customers.
Extremely slow and annoying method. Who downloads your files through WIFI and camera? I take the card out, card reader, download files, done. But doing this so Quick recognizes afterwards my files as not the original. Editing overlays through phone is annoying. I will better use my GPX/FIT file from Garmin and do this in Virb Edit, because it's WAY easier and quickier.
Seems pretty dumb that GoPro is limiting funtionality to only original clips that need to be transferred directly from your GoPro to your phone. Hard to have enough space for any real amount of footage.
No words about the fact that gopro videos are splitted in 4gigs chunks, and if you want to deal with video longer than 5 minutes all the above instructions do not have any sense
