Add LUXURY DETAILS to your Leather Craft Projects
In this video we show you how to create a double seam and sew on some leather binding by hand. These two techniques are a wonderful way to add luxurious touches to your leathercraft designs without needing any extra equipment, and they don' take a whole lot of extra time! the end result is a beautifully trimmed look similar to a big fashion house - Louis Vuitton, etc. Enjoy!

I appreciate that your stuff is actually handmade and that you don’t use machines. It irks me when leather crafters talk like their stuff is handmade when in reality they use a machine for almost every step of the process.
@stevethecatcrx1
@stevethecatcrx1 2 года назад
It should be okay to use machines for certain tasks. Especially for guys who do alot of production work. Used correctly by a skilled crafter they will only add to the quality of the work. The skills to everything by hand are necessary to understand when machines are okay though.
@sydneylmyers

@@stevethecatcrx1 I don't have a problem with using machines. My problem is when they tout their "handmade leather goods" and charge handmade prices, when the products aren't handmade. It's misleading. Even using a machine for one or two tasks like cutting or stitching would be fine. But when they use a machine for cutting, skiving, stitching, sanding, and burnishing, the only thing they're doing by hand is gluing. I personally wouldn't call that a handmade item.

Beautiful work as always Eric! I totally appreciate the effort you put into showing us how you approach the craft. I’m going to try this technique in my next project. Thank you!

Very interesting technique. it's something like a goodyear welt, but for bags. And you're right Eric, it's a great way to bulk up bags that use thinner leather for extra strength.

As always - great content! I love that you do fairly complex things with hand sewing! I don’t have nor want a machine and it’s hard finding content that doesn’t use a machine. PS - still looking forward to that Corter Pounder 😊!

Thank you very much for this tutorial, I am in the process of trying an idea for a friend and I was struggling to get the right regitity without upping the thickness of leather. I think this will work incredibly well for my project 😃 👍🏻

Can you do a video where you also go over thickness of the leather, kind of leather for the project, needle size, and thread size (brands are also helpful too if allowed on RU-vid)?

Question from a beginner. I am trying to figure when to use glue, and when not to. Does the glue do anything long term? Or is it just to assist while sewing?
@karinmacdonald6607
@karinmacdonald6607 2 года назад
I’m a relative newbie as well - I’m sure I’ll be corrected if wrong lol. My understanding is gluing mostly helps hold things in place to help with punching and stitching. It’ll also help with avoiding gaps between pieces of leather to burnish edges better. Without glue the edges beyond the stitch line can still separate even after burnishing. And I suppose it offers some additional bonding power around the seams, though I’ve made plenty of bags without gluing and they are still going strong - the edges aren’t as “together” as I mentioned earlier. Hope that helps and I wasn’t incorrect in my answer 😊
@SamuelODonnell
@SamuelODonnell 2 года назад
Hi, the glue’s only purpose is to hold things together. The stitching holds everything together. That’s not to say that a couple coats of contact cement won’t help a bit. 😀 I’ve gotten to where I prefer (other folks will differ) to glue seams, especially where there are multiple layers or tight turns involved. I’m getting more proficient with hand stitching. Though it will be awhile before I part with my machines. I hope my answer is helpful.
