That's a great solution 😍 I almost regretted having bought the 32",16 shafts Ashford table loom as I spent more time underneath the loom in order to search my shuttle than in front of it during my first (and so far last project). Now I'm ready to give it another try.
Wow, this is awesome! I just bought a 32” 16 shaft Ashford table loom, and I was already having trouble getting the shuttles through on the 24”. It just kept falling through! Thanks so much for sharing such a great solution!
Thanks so much for this. I just spent about 40mins setting this up the way you said - best 40 minutes I ever spent. It's made things so much easier and so much less frustrating.
Wow, so much easier than I imagined! And here I’ve been coaxing my boat shuttle through with every pick. I just didn’t understand how a race worked! I’m going to try to get this set up today and see if I get better and faster at this, thank you so much! Your video was perfect, it showed us exactly what we need to see.
I have a new 32 inch Ashford table loom. Had same problem with the shed. I adjusted the harnesses to the lowest possible level and can now use my boat shuttles. Love your project, hope someday I can weave something as beautiful.
Thanks Darren. Exactly what I’m hoping to do but didn’t know where to start. Love your accent too. I’m originally from north of England but live many many miles away now.
Your way is much easier than how I was planning to do it! I was going to make a new piece for the bottom of the beater bar by taking stock like you used, and route out a channel for the reed.
Wow! Darren thanks! I have the same 32" loom and the same problem and after trying about 5 different boat shuttles was beginning to lose hope. I am going to give this a go.... thanks for posting!
Darren that is a fab idea! Trying it now on my Louet Kombo - I'm weaving doublecloth with a cotton warp and on the underneath picks my shuttle keeps taking a nose dive through! Hopefully this will solve the problem :)
@@darrenbarlow2972 It works like a dream! The Kombo has the advantage that the breast beam is further back too, so it doesn't even mean I have less weaving space. The elastic bands mean I can adjust the height of the race (also to clear the head of the bolt that fastens the loom to its stand). I hope Ashford and Louet see this and take note :) Thanks from "sunny" Lancashire :D
Excellent! I’d like to do this. At what level do you set your heddles? I notice mine are too high at this point so will need adjusting. Thanks for sharing this!
Hello and thx for sharing. I mounted that shuttle bar yesterday and hoped to find any similar idea for it . I mounted it 90degree to the reed, so it’s not horizontal when shuttle supporting. How did you do? All the best.
Hi! I would like to know if the shed in the Ashford 32” loom is fine when weaving with a boat shuttle a 32” wide fabric, like you do here in the video? I have heard some people complaining that the shed in Ashford table looms are quite narrow and therefore not so good to weave with it. I’m in the process of maybe buying this loom and would be grateful to know if there are any great disadvantages with this 32” loom?
Hi, I have this exact loom for years andI love it. It has a great shed! I use boat shuttles, stick shuttles and ski shuttles, according to the warp that I am using. To my opinion, there is no disadvantage at all to the Ashford table loom. Hope this is helpful for you and good luck for your weaving!
Hi. I’ve just got a 4shaft table loom and am finding your posts invaluable. Could you please tell me which shuttle you are using? It looks to hold a lot more yarn than the slim one I’ve just bought. Thank you.
Hi. Story for the delay in replying. It a Schacht Open Bottom Boat Shuttle - 28cm, I love these shuttles. I use a power drill to wind my bobbin, rather us a drill than my hand winder because I can control the amount on put on better.
Thank you for your comment. I’ve move on to a ashford floor loom. Which I wish I’d of bought when I start weaving. The ashford Jack loom isn’t that daunting.
Ingenious solution! Maybe a video to show how you attach the shuttle race bar to the loom will be extremely helpful. Links to buy the tools will be helpful too.
