I was really happy to see this update today, although I was actually hoping to see it yesterday. I made some epic changes to my tank and was excited to tell you about them. Now you might say "What do I care what you've done with your tank?", but the reason I was excited to tell you was that it was something I learned from you that I incorporated into my tank. In the last month or two I have been seriously losing the algae battle, to the point that I was thinking that it was time to pack it in. Well between you and another RU-vid aquarist, I figured it was time to tear it down, and use what I have learned from the two of you. So yesterday I was able to get my hand on some aquarium sand, and I got some dirt from my back yard. I then took out all the old scungey gravel, cleaned the tank thoroughly, put the soil in as I've seen you do, and then covered it all with sand. l bought a bunch of new plants (and plan to get a few more) along with some water lettuce. I got to say, it's looking really good and I am hoping that the dirted tank set up will produce really healthy plants, and that the sand will keep the algae from returning. Long and the short of it is, thanks for the helpful advice and thanks for making these videos. It's always great to see what you are doing :)

Of course i care lol. Never say that again :D well done. Glad it's worked out. Remember, key reasons for algae...too much light and too many nutrients. Feed every other day and reduce light intensity if the algae comes back.

@@MDFishTanks thanks. I had already reduced feeding, but the battle had already been lost. With the new set up I will continue on the current feeding pattern. I will definitely monitor the lighting as well. I took out a lot of the hardscape, and now have a bit more room for some more plants, which I plan to buy in a week or two. Thanks again for the advice :)

Dean Eden Hey Dean! Yeah I done something like that a few weeks ago, but my reason was all my Cory’s habrosus died but now I have a more beautiful tank because at the beginning I didn’t know nothing about aquascaping lol. I used the Discus tank as a example and it’s looking amazing!

@@meesl6278 thanks, yes, I agree. The sand I bought is a really beautiful white sand and it just looks so much brighter and cleaner than the old gravel I had. Really hoping it helps to keep my old algae nemesis away too. Hoping your tank works out too :)

Dean Eden Hi, be careful- white sand reflects the light maybe cause algae and some fishes/shrimps prefer dark ground. Which animals do you have?

If you wanna see rummunose tetras best schooling, keep them in a tank full of rummies only. They don't do good schooling when they're in a tank with others species

Its more a of predator presence thing. In the discus tank, they see George as a potential threat. That's why they school so much. Also, in my experience, when they are calm, they will kind of stay together, but they wont go darting around as a school. :) Same goes for Cardinals. Put a single Angel fish in there and they will school perfectly.

I love the rainbow river. Dont break it down please. Maybe get another tank and have 2 peninsula style tanks. Then you could show the massive difference on how tanks although similar shape and size can look very different. Sorry about the rant. Love your work and videos!

hi someone help me, i have made a blunder.. I take full responsibility for this but basically, i got a tropical fish tank.. i never cycled it or anything i just let the fish in straight away i got 2 baby angel fish and 4 rummy nose tetra.. i never done any research the 4 tetras have died my 2 angels are left im trying to research alot just now. any advice..no hate please :)

Duck weed is a great treat for your fish once in awhile. At lest my goldfish and koi like it. They go crazy over it.A small pad not to much, or you will end up with too much.

And I got some shrimps that are ALWAYS sticking together in one place and never want to leave the other one. I am going to do a quick research on how you guys call these over there in GB. Edit: Ah found it. It is called Atyopsis moluccensis or Bamboo Shrimp? It has these super cute fans holding them into the "air", you know.

Hi MD! First off i just want to say how much of an inspiration your channel is for me! Watching your videos got me into aquascaping compared to awhile back all I did was try to find fake plants that looked real to put in my aquarium. But getting more into the hobby and actually seeing plants grow its very pleasing to see. But I'm currently fighting with cyanobacteria. My question is out of all your planted tanks have you ever had this bacteria in your tanks? If so how do you treat effectively? Thanks MD love yah and keep up with the great content!
