Probably one of, if not, theee most reliable vehicles ever made by toyota right here. Not just the 3rd Gen 4 runner, but the 4runner SUVs ever made. Here in Mozambique millions of people drive a 4runner its crazy.

I'm glad you cleaned the carpet. Maybe wipe down the floor pan too. The headliner will need to be cleaned too if you want the smoke smell gone.

If lower ball joints are still original, replace those with OEM only (see 3rd gen 4runner lower ball joint failures), also replace the radiator if it is still original (see pink milkshake). The brake masterpump is $2000 so don't ruin it by pressure washing it. Use OEM valve cover gaskets and Toyota FIPG for the job. I used aftermarket gasket once and it only lasted 6000 miles! OEM parts are cheap at several toyota dealers (Camelback toyota and McGeorge Toyota). For your older pickup and for this runner, you can buy OEM parts from overseas at partsouq.com. Lastly join t4r.org and document the build.

Austin, get you a floor fan to dry the carpet. Works a lot faster. It’s the round ones that companies use when cleaning carpet in the house. Plus if you have a leak on the inside (my 05 Tacoma leaks around the back sliding glass or 3rd taillight) of any vehicle you just plug it in and run it inside the car. Wanna see some more on the truck project. Look forward to more content.

if the frame looks good I would def go over it and maybe put some paint on it to prevent it from further rusting. otherwise looks like you got a steal of a deal 4runner!! looking forward to seeing more of it on the channel!

Looks pretty nice. Hope to see what you guys do to it. One thing I bought for cleaning carpet is a bissel carpet cleaner. It’s smaller then a carry-on bag. But works great and is pretty cheap too

Another Raptor paint job coming... lol gotta say great deal... gloss black Raptor would be the ticket. Along with a descent lift, custom roof rack, bumpers, lights, tires and wheels.... great project... drop in a V8 from a Sequoia... I could see the wheels turning as you were doing the walk around... 😎👍really enjoy your programs. I grew up in the Tri Cities many years ago, a lot of fun seeing someone from Washington state...

old carlot trick for cig smoke. Take a apple slice it up place on a plate and set inside the truck for a few days. It pulls the smell out..

If you put baking soda all over the carpet and let it sit then pressure wash and so on and so forth until the smell is gone. And you could also put carpet cleaner and scrub after you do the baking soda trick. It completely eliminated the cigarette smell from an old car that my dad had!!!

My 01 had saggy rear suspension bad. I wanted a simple lift to refresh the look, and allow bigger tires. But I also wanted to stay close to factory geometry to avoid UCA issues, and differential drops, etc. I went with 3rd gen specific bilstein 5100s, and coils from a 4wd FJ Cruiser ($100 off craigslist). I fit 32s without rubbing, super comfortable ride, and I get compliments on it often. Good cheap lift, if your truly looking for a budget lift that functions well.

Maybe sap on the paint. Even birch trees have this sap that's tough to get off.

As most everyone mentioned, that is my favorite year 4runner. Just a great reliable, robust rig. I had the exa6same one but mine was a 2000 model with tan leather interior sr5 trim. I loved the thing. Unfortunately I hd to get rid of it as we were relocating, but most importantly because it had one problem I just couldn't figure out. But now that i think about it,, it had to be bad brake booster. Anywyas once sold, the new owner wrecked it after a few months, then tried reposting it for sale using my picture. What shame. I'm so glad for your runner as I know it'll get the much needed attention it deserves now that you own it. Please make sure to share any problems you might run into as I might have solutions for you.

Vomit smoked in!!!! A good Ozone generator is the only way!!! And the dash needs to come out to wash all the AC passages ! Must be annoying needing to do everything inside when it’s snowing outside, still it’s looks like a cool place you live!!

Pressure washers work ok but if you invest in a hot water pressure washer with the oil burner you will be amazed what it can clean.

Just a tip Austin. The Radiator top tank is on the way out. When you see that color in the plastic, goes from black to a grey/brown, the plastic is going bad and in the summer, it will split. Not sure you can get a new top tank replaced, might need to get a whole new rad.

Since it is an auto, it is best to get a new radiator to avoid pink milkshake.

Radiator to avoid pink milkshake, and inspect LBJ for sure. I rescued an 01 sport 4wd, about two years ago. Previous owner neglected it pretty bad, mechanically and cosmetically. Its been a rewarding rescue and became my daily.

I owned a 99 Limited. It had 275,000 miles on it and ran and looked fantastic.The rear differential housing began to rust and leaked gear oil. Great truck other than that.

All the stuff on the driver rear door is spit or the remnants of whatever the previous owner was drinking. As a detailer these for the most part were from customers pouring their drinks out the window while driving.

holy crap. what elevation do you live at? gotta be 5k+ you get tons of snow. That is one of the best years for 4runner styling. They've gotten too big for my liking and black is easy to do spot repairs on.

Great choice for your next vehicle. Order some leather seat covers and seat warmers. It will make your wife happy. You may want to run an ozone machine to help eliminate any remaining smoke smell.

Love these older 4 runners. Even the gen bore this. First gen were cool too but I prefer the full steel body more. That interior was awful. Not sure why people simply don't vacuum even occasionally. Good you did the pressure wash. Even though I am a cigar smoker, I hate the smell of any kind smoke inside my car. Never smoke in any of them. Cigars are strictly an out door thing for me...or maybe at a smoke lounge at a cigar shop. As an aside, I understand cigars can keep you safe from covid. No one wants to be near you. 😉

Good choice pulling the carpet to clean it. That's what I do because it is the only way to get the gallons of coffee out of the carpet.

Be very careful tightening the valve covers on a 3.4 down. The front corner ears are prone to breaking off!. I never had much luck with gaskets from autozone. Seems like they are too thick, after snapping a few covers I started going to toyota lol

If you do exhaust, you should add sound dampening while the carpet is out. I'm planning on doing that to my 3rd gen.
