I think the main issue is that many of these don't have basic 'modern' safety features, like ABS or airbags. That may deter them becoming hand-me-downs, or make parents shopping for a car for their kid not to consider them. But still, they'd beat walking.

I don't like throwing away things either but not everyone has the time, tools or space, my partner tried to daily an 80s Audi coupe GT. Eventually lack of certain parts availability put paid to that with the frequency things would need replacing. There's only so much you can do when living in a flat with street parking or renting a council garage where people would moan.

I think you underestimate the amount of work and money it is to do what was done in this video. It's still a great deal, considering the initial price of the car, and one hell of an awesome job. Really impressed to see what came out of it But realistically, if you did this on a more "regular setting", you'd be spending weeks and unreal amounts of money for a car that was designed to be extremely basic and cheaply assembled... I'm not entirely sure it was "worth it" for a Corsa C

Once fixed, it is reliable and does not have much costs, whereas the modern car requires a lot of maintenance with issues only the dealer can fix alongside electronic faults, poorly (over)engineered expensive mechanical components and poorly designed to be worked on by mechanics. I had exactly the same model, red, 5 doors, mine was a 1.0 12v from 98 or 99, was a world cup edition. It was imported from Germany around 2013 and it was in my family until 2018 or so. I had the same problems, throttle body was dirty, gearbox was full of oil. Otherwise besides normal service i changed one sender pump unit, one camshaft sensor. Also my rear axle broke exactly under the left side spring holder. I was doing some offroad but nothing extreme. I had to weld it back. 😁 The car it’s still on the road, my father sold the car in our city, the new owner it’s happy with her. Remember when this car managed to start at -27 C in hard Romanian winter but the idle motor was giving high rev to the engine, around 2000 rps intermitently. At least it’s was starting. Good old times. Now i have a 1.2 Corsa D from 2011. The gearbox it’s covered in oil already. 😂

I tend to forget that these are older and rare cars that need good care now. In Norway, i would reckon that every 4th car you’d see at some point would be an Opel. That was when this Corsa was new. Now these Opels are most gone, and the memory is what’s left. New Opel cars never managed to get quite the same market position. So now Opels are more rare than ever in Norway. (That’s how i experience it). So these cars are an important part of history that needs care. Love to see you do this on an Opel. My father had an old Opel Omega A. I have a special relationship towards older Opels, so i love to see you take care of one.

All things considered the Corsa B is a very reliable little car. They drive quite nice if maintained, are easy to repair and cheap to operate as well. Back in the day every second learner started in one of these. Rust is the only issue they have, really. They don't build simple cars like this anymore. So I think it's great to keep it around. Especially in this day and age. Driving this thing is way more enviromentally friendly than constructing a modern car which is way heavier, larger and contains way more plastics and electronics. Because every car nowadays needs to be a driving infotainment system with at least 150HP. What ever happend to small cars with like 45 or 60 HP, a radio and maybe a sun roof or AC.

Nice work man. Opel Corsa B is highly underrated in my opinion, almost everything can be fixed pretty fast und cheap - a perfect daily driver. And I bet it will survive longer than many modern cars...

Shouldn't we focus on repairing things that work instead of manufacturing tons of garbage that lasts for a couple of years and is impossible to fix after that? Wouldn't that be actually beneficial for the climate and humanity as a whole? I'm getting sick of modern day economy that is based on constant growth, artificial needs and at the same time, patronizing us, regular folks, for destroying the planet.

Nice mini series, I like your work. I find these new times very strange when the cars are the topic. Cars from 1995 - 2010 are different in their philosophy to modern new cars. They are functional and durable. I hate modern high tech digitalized cars with huge flat screens in cabin. I like buttons, I like analoge dials and gages, I like dashboard with real arrows I don't want screen with pictures. The engines were better too. Small, durable petrol and diesel engines, 4 pistons, simple and effective. Now we have these shitty 3 piston engines which die after 150 000 - 200 000 km. The cars are expensive to run, there are too many things in them. I am planning to buy Volvo from late 2000's, invest some money in it and drive it for some time.

Cheers from the Croatia. You're doing great stuff with this car. In my country they would say "You're an idiot wasting money on this shitbox, you could save the money and buy something better"... Some people just don't understand the enjoyment on this and how relaxing it is. Just leave me alone to do what i love till i am young and healthy.

I know is not the same car, but my father had an 1995 opel astra caravan 1.4 that have run 315.000 km without problems. Another thing i noticed is the wheels bearing never went bad even the payload sometimes was over the limit. The only thing he replaced were the brake pads, battery, wipers, oil, filters, tyres, pivots.. i mean.. it was a saving machine

I miss my Opel Corsa, it was a 99 coupé, 1.4 sport with a/c, power steering, and abs, it was only with me for 1.5 years, it caught on fire while it was parked during a morning while I was working. So glad to see someone appreciate and keep on the road this kind of cars. I miss small cars on the road, tired of egg shaped SUVs

This is nice to see. I've spent obscene amounts of money on cars others consider "throw-aways". That term is alien to me. An oil analysis on my 86 Olds Calais came back showing I was getting antifreeze in my oil and let to replacement of the head just a few years ago. Worth it? I love the car. Cheaper than a new car payment. Good work. This is the sort of car I'd walk across a show field to see.

I got a 2008 corsa d and Iam shocked to see how this engine is to mine and its 15 years older. I just recently did the water pump and serviced the gearbox. A little maintenance goes a long way with these cars. They‘ll last forever if the rust doesn‘t get them.

Shall I tell you why this is not worthless? After the age of 60 my mother got interested in cars and started driving and now she has a Corsa of this exact model and she drives it daily without any problems !

it is sad seeing people not wanting to bother to go this far with maintenance because of the value of the car, some even refuse to do frequent oil changes because of low value of one

It's not worthless! It's really nice to see otherwise forgotten cars receiving attention. These little cars may not be fast, but they are certainly suitable as daily drivers. In fact, the same Corsa B structure was used in Brazil until 2012. Really nice work!

Good stuff! Alot of these procedures I've done on my own 5D B Corsa :) We have a different engine though; you have a twincam, mine is the sleepy ol' C14NZ (8 valve) :) I've also tried very hard to find a gasket set for my throttle body but it seems they've completely vanished, been thinking of buying cork sheet and making custom gaskets since one of them on my throttle body is sweating a bit as it is so it's in need of a replacement. Also kinda wanna replace the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm but those aswell are none existant :| People call these cars trash but they're actually very fun to drive around town because they're so agile and responsive, you can take corners very fast where bigger cars need to slow down significantly. With the lack of ANY modern systems, you're in direct contact with the road (no power steering, no traction control, etc). Due to their lack of power you can actually rev up and pedal it while still going within the speed limits LOL. Someone said it very well "it's alot more fun to drive a slow car fast, than to drive a fast car slow" and this is a very meaningful thing to consider if you wanna avoid speeding tickets several times a year or getting your license revoked. Nothing's gonna change my mind, old and simple hatchbacks such as this Corsa are FUN. They are not fast or comfortable, but they are fun :)

Old cars are relatively easy to repair...word is slowly getting around in supposedly rich countries like Germany...there is too much trouble with modern cars. I drive a 12 year old Dacia Lodgy and am so impressed by the low costs for maintenance and repairs.

Hose on a plastic tube should be fixed only with spring loaded clamps because of plastic shrinkage during cold temperatures which leads to loosing clamping force on a regular screw clamp.

I just poured $7,000 in repairs into a 2007 Lexus LS460L with 190,000 miles… if you like the car, why not? I paused before giving the OK for them to do the work and thought about what car I could get for $7,000 WITH those repairs made to it… I couldn’t think of any. I especially couldn’t think of any car that is $7,000 that makes me that happy WITH those repairs done to it.

en grej som många inte vet är att de klassiska metalbandet som slangklemma har ett visst moment i sig, för att skydda motorn så kan dem åka av vid vissa tryck. VS skruv slangklemman sitter fast och slangen och i värsta fall andra grejer går sönder.
