Hey SerpaSquad! I hope you all enjoyed seeing this tank now and the fish I chose. Let me know what you think! Also, if you have suggestions on a few other fish I could add let me know. Lastly, what should I do with the empty 150 cube aquarium? The possibilities are endless! If you missed the build series, be sure to check out the link below. It outlines the entire process! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1qcXxc8rWQ4.html
For the 150g, you could do a saltwater community reef tank. If you dont wanna go the saltwater route try a freshwater potato puffer fish or fire eel. They are pretty personable and would make a great addition to the tank.
my dream with this kind of tank would be a paludarium, with an island in the middle of the tank with waterfall and river and nanofish swiming around 360*.
Design for viewing from all sides! If anyone is up to the challenge of hiding the filtration system with a center scape (or terrarium equipment) it's you!
You in the cabinet cracked me up lol you should do a shallow brackish mangrove tank with archer fish and crabs or go full salt and keep it a shallow/tide pool tank and keep the mangroves. Idk why but something about the height of that tank says mangroves to me.
I was picturing the same with the addition of bumble gobies and mudskippers. I like the idea of crabs too. Not many folks have done tidal tanks to simulate low and high tide. I figure it would be cool if Tanner could set it up with fiddle crabs being able to burrow in sand. I was going to build a tidal tank but ran out of room to build one.
I would love to see you do a reef with corals in the cube. Never had a salt water tank but would love to learn more about its challenges. Thanks for your inspiration and enthusiasm.
Stripe necked musks in a southern US "hillstream" habitat would be great in that 150. Keep some rainbow shiners and madtoms with them. Maybe a smaller species of sunfish that doesn't mind a little flow as well. Longears, orange spotted, etc.
Thanks for letting us watch your fish/ critters.. I’ve enjoyed watching fish in tanks ever since I had endless nights rocking sickly twins in front of one. Now I’m too old and crippled to care for one, but you tubers to the rescue! Thank you.
Would love to see a salt water experience out of one of those tanks! Thank you for all that you have done. Great work!!!! *commented, liked and subscribed*
A graduated Neutral Density filter on the lens, dark at the top, will even out the light. Add too, a polarising filter and you can reduce many of the reflections
A brackish mangrove setup for the 150 would be really cool. There are lots of great fish you could fit in there like mono angels, scats, or archerfish.
"I don"t really care about keeping fish that are exotic or expensive. If I like the fish, then that is why I keep it." Best advice I have ever heard about fish keeping! keep fish that bring you joy not what others say you should keep of my 8 tanks that have fish in them my all time favorite is my sunfish (blue gill/perch) i love its personality
I would love to see you turn that empty tank into a peninsula vivarium like the one Justin Grimm used to have. Something like that would be absolutely beautiful and the fact you can see 3 different angles means you could have an awesome centrepiece with lots of epiphytes. You could even possibly get a lizard or dart frogs! It would be really cool.
I am deeply amazed that a three-year setup is in no way considered long-term. In my books, three-years is definitely long term, but what do I know, really. Tanner, your patience is out of this world.
Idea for the tank: instead of a peninsula I would love to see some type of hill in one corner, which would allow you to build a cave underneath that is only visible from one side (and theoretically the back)
Paludariums are the solution to the " I can't really decide if I want my terrarium or my aquarium " problem. The larger it is, the more stable and self-sustaining it will be. I've had in mind, everything from - a jelly jar, - to something a bit bigger; the room in your house, where one side is devoted to 18 by 8 1/2 ft. And of course it need not be only fish. It can get kinda crazy though. They're beautiful. They build some real show pieces I seen abroad. Go at it not just as an aquarist; but as an artist, ecologist, plant-freak, and everything that turns-you-on. Your finished product will reward you very well.
Tanner: "I was very excited to get those fish into the new setup." (Fish hide behind rocks) Announcer: "The fish, however, were _not_ as excited." Looks amazing, as always. I have a 50 gallon that I've been putting off setting up, wishing I had half your inspiration to design something special. I'd at least like to plant part of it.
The 350 looks even more beautiful now that it is stocked! 😍 Not sure if you want to get into salt water aquariums, but a coral middle would look beautiful from all sides... Or maybe some sort of a "mountain scape" - be it aquarium or terrarium.
Hey Tanner, really love how the tank looks. You can get a graduated ND filter for your lens. That will reduce the exposure on the overexposed areas and allow you to balance the image a little easier.
This is my favourite so far. The natural lighting really makes those dollars look so cool and at home. I’d love to see your take on a reef tank with the 150. Something completely new that I can only imagine you’ll use your outside of the box thinking to completely change how we scape reefs.
I find it amazing! The look in the water is so natural, like nature! If it were to me I would change the fish selection to bright and colorful ones due to not having enough light in the water so they could be easier to film and make it more attractive, but hey, as it is is SPECTACULAR.
Hey Tanner! I love your videos. You inspired me to rescape some of my aquariums and I started an isopod colony. All because of you! My fish and isopods are thriving. Thanks for all the videos! Greetings from Austria. I almost forgot: It's an amazing video as usual!
A paludarium with multiple waterstreams and little ponds would be awesome. Or a reeftank with corals would also fit perfectly in this and would make a nice contrast to all the freshwater setups.
That 350 gallon is certainly the most incredible piece of nature I have ever seen behind glass, great work! Also, concerning the cube tank, I think that a bonsai tree, especially an aquatic one like a cypress, would look great on an island. It could be stocked with cricket frogs, least killifish and cajun dwarf crayfish to mimic a southern swamp.
This looks like a setup you would see in a museum!! So gorgeous and feels like a piece of nature put right into your animal room... you can tell how happy the fish are too :)
Seriously, I am always impressed by your setups, but this one is especially mindblowing. Looks like you cut out a cube of nature somewhere and put it in your room !!!!
Hi Tanner, the paludarium looks so lush and grown in, I can't believe it's so newly set up. With the lighting challenge, I think the best way to film it is to set up some diffuse or ambient room lights for the purpose of filming the water, while dimming down the overhead lamps temporarily. As long as it doesn't spook the fish, of course.
I’d LOVE to see what you’d do with a reef aquarium... your creativity and attention to detail would make a reef tank incredible and as always stir my own creativity. Love the 350. It’s awesome but a touch of colour in the fish stocking would be nice - to me! It’s your baby so you do you!
A black ghost night fish would look amazing in that tank and probably be very happy because it's so dimly lit! They're a beautiful fish with lots of personality👻
Speaking on the 150, you had a post recently saying you had a desire to keep turtles again, the 150 would be perfect for a musk turtle paludarium. You making a palu for a turtle would be a dream come true for a lot of us.
The coolest for me is the dark cave-like lightning. Everything else ofc looks great, love the plants, and the stock. As you yourself said, I'm the type of person who doesn't like mixing too much. I'd likely try to purchase a few more congo tetras as I absolutely adore schooling fish.
You should do a series where you look at and give advice to your subscribers terrariums! I’d love to get some advice from you and Itd be super fun to watch
Tanner, one thing I have found works well to help with exposure issues while shooting tanks is to get some light diffusing fabric and layer it a few times under the lights, which helps to make them a little less intense. You could also get some little LED panels to put on either side of the water feature, just for filming. (Both the fabric and the LED panels would only be used during filming, and would be absent most of the time)
Incredible tank setup. It's absolute gorgeous. The stock in the tank fits the overall environment really well and they compliment each other. It's beautiful overall. Great work as always.
The Silver Dollars seem to really enjoy the extra space and the Congo Tetras really add to this setup real nicely! A mangrove-reef (with small fish only) combo or a Mangrove with Macroalgae (with Seahorses) combo aquarium would look fantastic in the 150 gal cub set up! I think this addition would complement your gallery real well, as well as balance out/ add a nice contrast to the Paludarium. However, I look forward to any decisions that you end up with. You inspire me everyday!
Love the channel! Keep up the work. I think a saltwater reef tank would be really cool to see for the 150. I’d love to see how your artistic capabilities portray with the coral live rock anemones and livestock you add. Can’t wait to see how it turns out.
I would LIVE to see a saltwater Hawaiian 🌺 themed tank with a small volcano in the middle , we’re building a coffee table fish tank but I think we’re going with fresh water and a more mangrove look to the set up, but it’s not feasible for our tank Love your 350 setup!! So calming! I dig the more natural setups for sure, even though darker viewing, it’s more like actual nature
Iove how you build your takes with the needs of the inhabitants in mind. I would add a small school (6-8) neon tetras or cardinal tetras just for that pop of color. They are originally from the Amazon river so I think they would do well in that tank & show up nicely against the dark background.
You should definitely make the 150 a full blown peninsula reef tank, it would look awesome! I have many planted tank but if I’m honest reef tanks are much more interesting than any planted tanks, the diversity of fish, invertebrates, corals, anemones and the natural interactions you get to watch in a reef tank is just incredible.
This tank is awesome! It looks really good. I love the way the wood is in there. And the way the silver dollars swim in and out of the crevices. Looks like the fish love it to. Great job!
The 350 tank looks amazing. Almost something you would see at a public aquarium. Even though you said that it’s not a South American theme, I still imagine it to be so - well except from the Gurami fishes that are native to Pakistan and India I believe. To me the 350 looks like some slow moving backwaters or tributary of a main South American river system The 150 tank I love to see a heavily planted jungle style aquarium with leaf litter, driftwood and dark substrate filled with one of my fav little fishes - the Ember Tetra fish
We want a live stream of the 350 Gallon Paludarium!! Also, perforated wooden acoustic panels can fit onto the front of the doors you have! I don't really like the cube against a wall with other stuff. I feel like it'd end up in a corner in my house which is kind of sad. It should be loved from all angles. I'd love to see you do something fun with the cube like a LIVING COFFEE TABLE! We can't wait for the next video! :)
The coolest idea I've seen done with large cubic/cylinder tanks is creating a large centerpiece, surrounding it with an artificial current, and then filling the tank with tons of small schooling fish that you can watch swim with each other in circles.
The 150 would look cool with a big stump in the centre, partially submerged in water with fishies. I also liked the idea of a salt water tank! I’m excited to see what you do.
I really like the 350. It's cool to see your visions become reality. For the 150 I'd like to see a very heavily planted background with ~200 count school of nano fish. It would be very interesting for you to get a small school of egg scatterers and raise the hole generation of fry to be the huge nano school.
Great job! The nuanced light really gives it a natural look and you can tell that the fish feel very much at home this way. If I could critique the tank as a whole...maybe the planted area could have bit more variation of color? A dream tank for anybody in the hobby, so well done.
The way that red or other light shines through the underneath is awesome! Everything about it looks so natural that it soothing to look at. Makes me wanna set one up. On what you'll do with the empty tank I'd go saltwater with a giant nepthia with a couple fish blennies and what not. I know you like the freshwater though so maybe a brackish set up lol.
