ADDING LAYERS OF MUSICALITY TO YOUR DANCING / Here is how we turn a basic piece of choreography into something really musical. We use this way of layering musicality on top of basic flows to choreograph fast (now you know how we knock out choreo in two weeks for a competition!). Starting with a basic flow is also a great way to create something highly musical without losing the original swing essence. You know when you try to be musical and end up with something quite experimental? While that can be fun in its own way if you're trying to keep your choreo still looking SWING, here's a safe process.

We would love to hear from you! What process do you use to create musical pieces of choreography?

The bloopers from this shoot are endless. I was laughing hard when editing. It was tough to slim it down. Tons of interruptions from our son, I was sick and in a really pissy mood, and Sarah was such a delight. It made for some really good moments. haha

Strangely enough I really like the very first "basic" version the most. 🤪 That shoulders and tongue! 🤗 Cool concepts overall.

Yes! Totally! Some people prefer to keep things simple! That's the beauty of layers, you can add as many you want. Simplicity also translates really well in live performances. Micro musicality works really well for people who watch your routine over and over and get to peel more layers each time! I love doing both. There are routines really simple and there are some we do that is so micro musical. Being able to do both is really satisfying.

Hey Bellz Toll! I can see that! Especially using advanced material as an example. If it helps, you can think of this concept like this: Start with a basic set of choreography that flows really well. The add musicality, layer by layer depending on how detailed you want it. Each layer will cause you to tweak footwork and such while trying to maintain the essence of the basic choreography. The last main tip was to be consistent with the quality throughout. If you make one section super nice it will out-shine the rest or cast a spotlight on the worst part of the choreo. So stay consistent in your polishing. -sarah of rhythmjuice.

Yes, this video was more about the concept than teaching the combination. It was fast for sure! You can check out the combo on our website:. Link is in our description.
