This installment took a while to make because I tried to go all out on it, so hopefully it was worth the wait, haha It’s been amazing to see all the theories and questions, and even fanart(!) that came about after the first one of these - I hope that these villains spark y'all's imaginations just as much! (^^)/ (And as ever, please do let me know your faves - and any suggestions for future Concept Corner Content - here in the comments! This format is super fun, so I’d really love to make more of these in future!) 💖 💖

I just noticed that each of the Jury has a 4 pointed star symbol somewhere on their design, and also that Bandy has it in Makeup so his is the only one that isn't a permanent fixture of the clothes, ALMOST LIKE HIS LOYALTY TO THE REST OF THE GROUP IS EPHEMERAL AND CAN BE WASHED AWAY! I've no clue if that was intentional but that is an amazing visual metaphor.

Oooo what if Creed was born a wizard and hated himself for it, desperately searching for ways to rid himself of his magic, and his “curse” is the result of that search, but accidentally extended beyond himself and maybe it’s slowly killing him or something and that’s why he’s so weak? So while Heartless is kept alive by his magic, Creed is being eaten from the inside by his because it needs an outlet or something?

I can imagine Lance flirting with Eira just to make him mad during fights until Eira finally embraces his sexuality and just shrugs him off with,"You don't meet my standards."

I like to imagine that the world these characters live in is all magical and then there's France just normal France

When you were talking about Lorelei's 'black swan' moment I was trying to think of ways you could do that without it making whatever was about to happen super obvious or kinda belated. And I was thinking, maybe it could be an environmental effect. She finally has her big public breakdown fighting the magicians and shatters a bunch of glass and she's so unhinged that she doesn't care about her clothing (because she strikes me as the kind of person who would at least pretend to care) and gets it stained with soot or oil or just plain dirt - showing how she's revealing herself as a villain. Then either she's defeated, or they *think* she's defeated, but she turns up later in a fully black dress.

I’d like to imagine that if all of the villains went to an interview, it would go something like this: Interviewer: “So, why did you join the Jury?” Creed: *dramatic voice* “I remember it clearly. It was a cold night in December, and a snowstorm had just hit…” (continues to info dump his traumatic backstory for half an hour) Lorelei: “I want to eliminate all evil from the world! *winky smiley sparkle shine* “ Lance: “Violence! Violence! Violence! Viole-“ Dock: “So have you ever amputated an arm? No? You’re missing out. Well, point is, the feel of the saw going through a magic-user’s flesh [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED]” Diana: “I always collect my dues. Always. Whether it be days, weeks, months, years… Every debt gets paid. No exceptions.” Bandy: “The Starbucks on the corner has a barista that puts 0.1% more whipped cream on people’s drinks than normal. I go there every day, order a drink, and take that 0.1% off to store in my fridge… soon, I’ll have a whipped cream business rivaled only by that of the Heartless gang! Therefore, by joining this group, I can get rid of my competition, fair and square…Oh, and I was bored.”

Pov: Dock stubs his toe and transfers the pain to you because you look at him

Dock is just the embodiment of the meme: “Call an ambulance! But not for me!”

Creed: help us kill these magic people Bandy: why would I? Creed: we'll pay you Bandy: lmao ok

Lance using orange is a good choice. Orange is associated with greed, but also honor. It's a bold color tied to rage. It's perfect for him

Am I the only one who loves the idea of Bandy being mute? The one character who talks through his movements and nothing but his bells make sounds

I can imagine a scene where a tired Creed approaches Lance with a collection of paperwork before apologizing because their budget was less than expected and Lance needs to take a pay cut and lance just stares in shock before saying "Wait I get paid for this?!?"

“His name is lance” Me: *raises hand* “No coronation to voltron” Me: *puts down hand*

Lance as a character is basically the embodiment of the “hoarding is good” mentality

It's funny, Lorelei is a place in Germany where I live. Legend has it that a woman sits and sings on a mountain. There is a river flowing next to the mountain and the drivers of the ships would drive on the shallows becaus of her singing and get stuck, which leads to them dying. That the character Lorelei is a dancer/singer fits the legend pretty well. It was just something that I noticed and wanted to point out. Greetings from Germany!

French guy here! I have personally never heard anybody refer to a friend as a "belami" ( or it would in two separate words: the adjective "bel", which means beautiful/handsome, and the word "ami", which means friend ) but the interesting thing is the fact that "Bel-Ami" is the name of a really famous novel by the French author Guy de Maupassant which talks about the social-climbing of an ambitious and unscrupulous seducer. So I doubt you'll ever see this comment but at least it will give some extra piece of culture to anyone reading it.

BANDY FEELS LIKE THE KIND OF PERSON TO JUST GO "Plot twist!"

Had to switch to desktop just so I could type this all out. I can just imagine a scene where Creed and Heartless are alone/Heartless was captured by the Jury, and Heartless is trying super hard to get away only to get hit by the nullify ability and immediately crashes into a wall. Creed (thinking Heartless just dazed himself) walks up to him while monologuing, only to be put off when Heartless doesn't respond. He sort of nudge-kicks Heartless over on his back and is startled to see how Heartless looks so... dead. Creed has probably seen how durable Heartless is at this point (normal shonen durability, in-universe because he is technically undead and therefore simple things like deadly impacts are decidedly less as long as he has enough surrounding magic to draw from). Maybe it's just enough for Creed to drop the nullify for a moment, only for Heartless to start absolutely speed-draining the area around him ATLA Hama style. Creed reapplies it, which essentially stops Heartless' intake (he was running on fumes beforehand) enough to regain a woozy consciousness, but can hardly move and has to be kept from drifting off several times by Creed as the witchhunter interrogates him. And this is the first time we really get to see both the extent to Heartless' draining as well as Creed's moral compass. Leaning more on how sickly Creed is, perhaps he makes the internal connection that Heartless' magic is more of a mobility aid than simple flaunting of magic. Maybe he struggles justifying taking away Heartless' magic permanently, since unlike other magic-users, it's not simply making them (heavy quotations) "normal" like it would with any other wizard, it's sentencing him to death. And so when Heartless is eventually released from the nullification (whether because his friends bust in to save him or Creed lets him go) now that Heartless is both conscious and significantly distressed by the situation (his absolute need to get away) when he is released he goes more feral/traditional zombielike, in his effort to survive because even not being able to utilize his magic in a traditional sense, he is running a net negative so even just talking to Creed gets harder and harder. --- I also like to think the first time we are introduced to Lorelei is through Alchemy, who is really good at finding all the underground magic meetups. New town, Alchemy finds the local magic scene and meets sugar sweet Lorelei, who through hypnosis and suggestion makes everyone think she is a wizard too. Alchemy drags the rest of the party there to hang out maybe gather information about whatever job they are on, only for Doppel's mirror to be the only one to see that something is *wrong* about Lorelei. Her suggestions just don't stick to him the way they do to everyone else, but his worries are pushed aside by Doppel when he brings it up to him privately. While this is influenced by Lorelei, it's also heavily a part of the two's dynamic, and so Glass (which is just what I'm going to call Doppel's reflection, since although ABD didn't say that was his name outright afaik, it's easier than continuing to call him Doppel's mirror rather than his own name, as it also feels... rather dehumanizing in a way?) just drops it. Only to be revealed as completely right when Lorelei brings in the Jury to arrest the entire underground group, where she has been acting as the inside man to get everyone's details and also to let a handful of the weaker magic users go free after hypnotizing them to tell the story that one of the other members of the group ratted them all out in order to keep herself out of suspicion so that she can keep doing this to every town she goes to. Of course, the party are set to be arrested, only to be saved by Glass. This also puts him into Lorelei's crosshairs, who much later down the line after a whole arc of Doppel and Glass learning to work together and respect each other, shatters Glass who is then reabsorbed into Doppel (they never tried that because of the fear that it would just kill Glass and leave Doppel permanently at half power). After the fight, Doppel willingly splits himself again (which is why character arc is needed, since this was originally his main goal/wish) which brings back Glass. -- I really like the idea of instead or along side of Bandy&Lance teamup is Diana and Lance. Where, when they are working at peak efficiency, Lance is sent in to drive all the witches out into Diana's traps. (This doesn't work often because Lance's desire to fight rather than capture). ABD said he is the attack dog, I imagined more of a hunting dog dynamic. -- I also like the idea of Lance fighting Alchemy. As Lance pulls out his weapons, Alchemy just keeps warping them into ineffective forms. This continues to rile up Lance because all his precious weapons are being destroyed! -- Something really fucked up I thought of also: What if Dock's the reason River has to use prosthetics? Either as backstory or during the story itself, he uses his ability to essentially shatter his own legs and then reflect it onto her body. Another option to this is if he isn't the cause, but doesn't realize her legs are prosthetics. He tries to disable her, only to disable himself. He's usually fine with the few short moments of pain before the transfer, but he is not ready for the fact that it doesn't work.

A cool idea for the villains “powers” would be that their “Curses” that have been caused by magic and that could play in why the Jury wants to destroy magic so more people don’t end up like them

My thought process when he started sketching out Diana: “Beeg womun?” “Beeg womun with _gun?”_ “Beeg *_cowgal with gun?!”_*

Bandy's introduction: he slinks into view, "Bandy Bellamis, at your service" does a really deep gentleman's bow with his arm stretched out to the side. Coming back up he moves his arm infront of Creed while doing so his glove disappears and a gift is in the palm of his hand. Love all of these characters!

Creed has my dream aesthetic I would like to politely ask him to a date to a library and read true crime as we drink tea or boba together.

Dock: Has a license to suicide. Protagonists: Haha, that’s useless. Protagonists: ... Wait, what was your power again?

Me after seeing and hearing just a tiny bit about Lance: He's probably the opposite to Eira.......they're definitely gonna be shipped together aren't they-

I'm enjoying the thought of creed nullifying all the magic and being like "you peasants are useless" And alchemy just starts beating the crap out of creed with their staff that is now just a metal pipe

Head cannon that Bandy develops the BIGGEST crush on Alchemy despite his morally grey nature, both he and they become good friends. I also imagine that he would end up betraying and or spying on the jury for Alchemy and the rest of the squad when he realizes that he personally benefits emotionally from being around them. so basically he goes from chaotic neutral to chaotic good lmao

Lorelei's black choker is a nice touch. makes people realize that hinted to her being a baddie when going back.

Lorelei fawning over Creed without realizing he doesn't feel love: 😍 Bandy: ...I'm gonna tell her. Diana: Don't you dare!

So you called Lance the "Attack Dog" and I imminently Imagined Lorelei calling him "Puppy" in a condescending tone, but with a sugary sweet voice.

I like how Dock has a old historic design to opposite River's future-istic outfit!

I ' m n o t l a t e , y o u a r e . I am just imaging Lance eating weapons now. Dragons sometimes eat their hoard right? Lance can just chill and eat some metal, while the others (Lorelei) stare at him like he's 🦆ing insane; Bandy cheering Lance on, hoping he'll choke, Dock would wonder where his new knifey went, and Diana and Creed would contemplate on how these guys were their teammates! Ah, how nice.

I like to imagine since Eira is so flustered around women, Lance is a super flirty bisexual who especially likes to make fun of eiras shyness

ABD: “People were asking if Lance was single.” Me: “So how about Bandy?”

Bandy checks off all my boxes for a favorite character: jester, cheshire cat like, trickster, morally grey, snoopy, sly bastard, bonus points for french- _what have you done._

ABD: “Morally grey!” Me: Ah, so chaotic neutral

"They're witches, they use magic, so the bad guys should beee" Scientists! "Witch hunters" Oh, oh yea that makes a bit more sense I guess.

Some ideas for the hypotetical ost of heartless: Themes: Creed: *Hushabye,* a somber song played with damaged instruments, the main is a music box *Full stop,* rendition of Hushabye for when the sitation is drastic, the bass is heavier and there's some interference noises. Lorelei: *(Heatstroke) By the coast,* a disorienting opera piece with some distant tropical elements, sometimes echoey or muffled. Doc: *Incisus,* instrumental opera rock piece, it's sometimes acompanied by a gospel-like vocal piece, but this is actually gibberish, yet consistent on it's nonsensical structure. Bandy: *Deartest mearest,* a circus like piece that shifts between a cheery pan flute tune and a paniqued synthetizer, maybe some hospital ambiance to make it creepier. Diana: *Struck'n'by* Western valley music, with the twist that as the song goes on it becomes more melancholic and distant, until it sounds like you're hearing it from another room. Lance: *Toyhouse*, Typical heroic medieval-inspired rock piece, but the guitar misses a few notes and has to catch up, it sounds incomplete. The jury (in general): *By the letter,* a militarily monotonous piece, falsely solemn.

can imagine Lance flirting with Eira in battle to throw him off, but after, like, one fight he gushes about him to the others and when they tease him about having a crush on him (while keeping it a secret from Creed and Lorelai cause god knows that won't go well) he'll play it off with him just liking having a "worthy opponent"

bruh imagine Alastor going up against river and thinking "HA! CAN'T HEAL YOURSELF NOW! WHATEVER WILL YOU DO, YOU PUNY WITCH!" And then River just knees him in the gut.

ABD just went "I'm gonna give the gays everything they want." It's me, I'm the gays.

Even though this was a year ago, the concept of Lorelai going against Hale is my FAVOURITE THING. Not only can she shatter his ice and render him without his weaponry, but she seems to be the very manipulative type that could shatter him emotionally. And I remember Hale’s whole problem with accepting his wizardry, and I can perfectly imagine Lorelai trying to sweet-talk him into joining them. Or maybe Hale spinning himself around into the horror of he could have become like them. (btw i am very in love with bandy, he’s my favourite type of villain!!)

I like the idea that the reason they hate magic is that the curses made them miserable. For example Lorelei used to hate the spotlight but her curse makes her actively seek it out as a side effect or something. The shy and quiet Lorelei becomes attention seeking and outspoken. Smug and cocky. Maybe Lance used to be generous but after the curse he had to steal, had to act on the impulse or it would become uncontrollable. The once generous and gentle Lance becomes a greedy monster. The curses corrupt the person and make life unbearable for them, pushing them out of their comfort zones and harming their minds. Doc possibly was already in a dark place, maybe hurting himself and then when the curse came along he decided to make everyone suffer the same as him. IDK something to think about. I think its a cool concept but it might just be crazy and dumb. Its not like this is whats actually going on I just thought it was cool. Sorry

Anyone notice the little star that appears on every design? On Alastor’s coat, Dock’s shirt, Lorelei’s sash and choker, Bandy’s cheeks, Diana’s boots and Lance’s tattoos on his chest. I think this might be The Jury’s logo or smtng but he didn’t mention it and I was wondering.

If Creed's ability gets rid of/nullifies magic. What would it do to Doppel's clone? Would it temporarily get rid of him or just make it so that way he's a lifeless body?

Now I just imagine bandy and alchemy aggressively flirting in the middle of a fight. Like: “You are so handsome when your no talking” “Are you mad cutie?” And things like that

imagine if when Creed uses his nullification ability it leeches color out of the surroundings and makes everything monochrome

“A mix between a vampire and a librarian” That’s the ideal character design and I want 50 more

Creed: when I take away a witch's magic, they won't be able to do anything! River, cracking her knuckles: I'm about to end this man's whole career

I could imagine Diana using Lance as some sort of hunting dog- she’d just be like “okay, I’ve been tracking these people. Go get em’ boy.” and Lance proceeds to go rampage like some dog after squirrels

lance: *breaths* eira: THIS OFFENDS ME IN A GREATLY MANNER

HEADCANON: since bandy is so flirty and self serving and Eira is newly accepting gay maybe bandy flirts as joke and notices the flustering and then uses it as a tactic but they lowkey have a thing and Eira tries to convincr bandy to be less morally gray and a little more morally gay

In the story when Lorelei goes “black swan” I think it would be heartbreaking, but she ends up breaking dopple. And then the original realizes how much he cared for his other self. So he has an entire character arc just trying to find out how to bring him back. And when dopple finally excepts it on accident he brings his other self back.

I feel like Diana is just a very tired lesbian who is done with Lance Like in general

Creed: You're supposed to be leaving for your mission. Bandy and Lance painting eachothers' nails: Not until the paint dries.

I’ve been thinking; maybe, since it’s mentioned in the third concept corner that many of the people in Eira’s backstory are named after knights of the round table, him and Lance might have known each other, whether that be as street punks or in the royal guard. Furthermore, I feel like Lance threatening Arthyr would fit them being foils in several ways, as well as provide a good excuse for Eira to join the gang

oh man, i can just imagine alchemy adoring lorelei’s act as they were growing up, never knowing that she was on the jury, and one day he gets to meet her and… well, it doesn’t go very well. maybe alchemy brings along glass and dopple to see a performance of hers and shit goes sideways fast once they introduce themselves

Imagine this: Creed getting injured to the point he can’t really walk well during a fight. Then Dock just straight-up grabs him and carries him to safety while they retreat. You can just see Creed's eyes go wide as he gets picked up suddenly by the tall man. Lorelei giving Heartless’ team glares before they just disappear. Next time we see him he has a posh walking cane (sword) and he looks really annoyed. (Feel free to picture anyone from Heartless' team seeing him and their reactions) Edit: changed crutch to posh walking cane sword because people in the replies are creative (you know who you are)

I love how Doc's power is basically just the "No... YOU" MEME.

An idea for Lorelei: There are scientific expiriments showing that if you tap a material and record the sound, if you replay it at a high enough volume, it can literally shatter the material the sound was recorded from. Maybe Lorelei can use this as an attack?

Disclaimer: I made this comment before I watched Heartless #3 and most of these are probably wrong, but it's nice to think about Fun Headcanons I have: 1. Lorelei is in love with Creed and is 100% Devoted to him. She knows that her relationship with Creed is really bad but doesn't care cause she's just that devoted and loyal 2. Due to River's legs being prosthetics Dock isn't able to damage her prosthetics with his powers! 3. Creed was born into the Jury and his Father was the founder of the Jury, and he was forced into being the next leader of the Jury. He was abused due to him having magical powers, but no one else would be able to be the next leader because his father and mother are too old to conceive another child and it was a miracle he was even born all of these things are the reason he has such a depressing mood (Creed was probably put into the group of "The Wonders" by his Father so he wouldn't have to work with him so closely)🙁 4. Diana has custom bullets that give her options of how to use them, she also has custom utility belt bags to put the bullets in! (Examples: Tracker Bullets = Basic aim icon on the bag, Exploding Bullets = Explosion icon on the bag) 5. Lorelei and Diana get paired up a lot, because while people are covering their ears due to Lorelei doing an ear-piercing screech Diana can shoot them from a distance while they're distracted 6. Dock's power actually leaves scars every time he stabs himself, so when he doesn't have his plague doctor outfit on he just has tons of scars on his body 7. When The Jury Falls Bondy is just gonna be that last one standing and is just gonna walk it off and turn into a stage or street performer 8. Each one of the villains is the leader of a section of the Jury (excluding Creed cause he's the Leader of the entire organization) Dock: Medical Field, Diana: Scouts, Lorelei: Spies, and Information (because she's putting on a facade), Lance: Guards, Bandy: Entertainment ig (I love Bandy but idk what to give him! I can't think of one rn 😭)

I like how Lance Diana and Bandy all have their nails painted because I can kinda imagine them all having a sleepover of sorts.

Lance stealing weapons is a pretty good reason for Eira to start using ice blades cause who cares if he steals some ice. Pretty late but im binge watching this series rn and loving it.

"I wanted him to look like a mix between a vampire and a librarian." Imagine if one of the main characters taunted creed upon their first meeting, saying something like "What are you, a vampire librarian? You gonna bite us? Tell us to "shush"? Ohh, I'm so scaared!"

headcanons! Creed had a friend/sibliing/crush(someone close to him, the specifics of said relationship doesn't matter) when he was young who was a magic user and one day they accidentally hurt/killed someone and they were put in magical juvie and because of propaganda and a general dislike of magic he thought that he had known and was close with a secretly bad person and that having magic makes you inherently evil. I like to think that the friends magic was a secret to everyone but Creed and Creed adored seeing his friend use their magic because the friend looked so free and happy + magic was cool to him at that time. But when their friend hurt/killed someone he decided to become a witch hunter to prevent innocent people from getting hurt. I like this backstory bc I didn't want him to have the stereotypical '____ killed my parents so now I hate them' plus I thought him having a skewed sense of justice would be super cool for him to have ++ felt very in-character of him :DD for Bandy I think he would have been an orphan that lived on the streets. There isn't much to his backstory other than 'poor orphan boy living on the streets', but it's what made his personality what it is today. He's self-serving because he lived on the streets and being a good person would either get you no where or it would get you hurt, killed, or worse. Apathy and humor became his coping mechanisms and they helped him on the streets. for Lance, I think his parents would have been apart of or ran an underground fighting ring and probably put him in it. Therefore fighting became his obsession like Dazai from Bungou Stray Dogs and death. with Lorelai I was torn on giving her a neglected backstory or a spoiled backstory but now ik (credits to @/ I girlbossed too close to the sun and now I'm gay) Lorelai has a mix of both! whenever she displayed picture perfect behavior like being polite, happy, and good she was spoiled, however, whenever she was sad, mad, and upset she got punished, making her have a dollhouse 'no one can see your bad side or else they'll hate you' vibe. I don't have any backstory idea's for Diana(I now have an idea for Dock), but I like the idea another commentor had for Dock where he had a bedridden little sister and that was why he became invested in medicine, but something went wrong and now he's insane. Idea is from commentor @. -0M3RCY0 - When Dock was young, he was a very sweet and kind kid who would never wish harm on others. One day, when he was out playing, he accidentally offended an evil witch who then cursed him to forever project his pain onto others, after that, whenever he was hurt, since he didn't have the control he now has, he accidentally hurt his friends and family. He tried his best to help everyone by isolating himself and being extra careful, until eventually he ended up hurting and accidentally killing his mother this way (who was a single mom, dad is out of the picture). He now blames witches for being the reason he killed his mom. edit: clarification and I got an idea for Docks backstory original Lorelai: I'm torn on whether or not she would have been born to parents who spoiled her rotten or verbally abusive ones, either backstory would give her a superiority complex, but I do know that she does have extremely rich parents. I'm also not sure if I should make her a psychopath or not. Whether or not she is a psychopath would depend on whether or not her parents spoiled her or verbally abused her (If they verbally abused her, she would probably be a psychopath vs. if they spoiled her she wouldn't)
