🇦🇺Why do kids have to have extra curricular activities . When I grew up (1970’s) that was riding your bike or going to a friends place to go-cart and my kids was the same (1990’s-2000). Kids expect so much or parents are keeping up with the Jones’s. Why? Climb a tree, make a tree house, make forts, fish, hunt, swim, play with the animals, soccer nets, basketball hoop, garden. Why spend hours driving kids to sporting or other organised events. I truely don’t understand. Know wonder people don’t have time, kids need to be bored to learn to use their imagination and invent stuff.
I didn't have extra curricular activities, with the exception of girl scouts when I was a kid, but my kids (80s/90s kids) had one outside school activity each, and I was a single mother raising my two kids on my own. In my opinion, kids who have an outside activity learn important skills, such as teamwork, overcoming setbacks, learning new skills, putting themselves outside of their comfort zones, which helps to create a more well rounded kid who will have developed skills that will serve them well in their adult lives, no matter what they choose to do as an adult. Kids don't choose the lifestyle the parents have chosen, such as homesteading, why should they be held back from one or two activities (money permitting) just because you choose to be a homesteader? If you can offer your children the opportunity (time and money permitting) then you really owe it to your kids to give them the opportunity.
@@ramblinrosecottage5983 🇦🇺Thanks for the reply. That might be true for some. But it’s the parents life ( yes the one they chose) I see lots of parents try to accommodate their children, especially if there are several kids to the detriment of having tea together, family time, talking to each other, constant take always. Not all families do this, I understand that. But if the parents choose Homesteading then maybe choosing activities that can be arranged with multiple families ie camping, hunting ( rifle, bow), fishing. Instead of try to get this kid over here and another over there. Especially these day where games may not be local ( sports ground or school) but need to travel 1/2 to 1 hour away. Just saying family time is important, don’t underestimate how important. Group activities and learning to loose well is important, that’s why you have PE at school (physical Education). When kids become teenagers that’s a little different to young kids as well.
We feel your pain. We've been raising animals for 20 plus years. Started with 2 goats. Ended up with 28. Started with 2 pigs. Ended up with 19. Started with 2 rabbits ended up with 60. You live and learn. We now have 1 pig a few horses and probably 40 different birds. From chicken to Guinea to turckeys. And a big garden.
All of it is so very true. We are reevaluating our homestead as spring is approaching. Now is our time for doing it, that way we will be in a better mindset when spring arrives. We have a business on our homestead (a fiber mill) and in the past I have felt my stress level rise as spring approaches. My word for 2024 is “easier”. Meaning, I am taking a look at the things we do and reevaluating them. Do we still need to do them and if so how do we make them easier. If we don’t need them how do we move past that item/thing, and then doing just that moving on from it. This year we are cutting the garden in half and planting only the things we really like to grow, no experimenting with new seeds or crops we normally don’t eat. I have seen that those experimental crops take up time and resources that we just don’t want to give. I guess another way of looking at it is streamlining and now is a wonderful time to get your head around that idea.
I sold breads, cakes, cookies to earn money to buy my seed start trays, compost (before I made our own). I sold plant starts to buy chicken supplies, chickens. It's grown from there.
Oh wow, guys you hit it out of the park!! This video should be mandatory for us all, with our lives the way we live them and how we approach new things and ideas. Thank you so much for taking the time to deal with some of the challenges. Love you guys too, Liz
I just expand my garden with a few new items I never planted before each year to figure out the pros and cons . Before I did that I went to the grocery store and walked the aisles to figure out what were some of the most expensive things I purchased or used lots of. I now grow a good size garden which can produce a lot. At Christmas I purchased an 18 qt nesco to help process my tomato juice and sauce without it taking me a week. My goal is to plant more medicinal herbs and possibly have a tea garden next year. Its a lot of work but I took last year off of gardening and this winter food didnt taste the same.
You two are such solid people. I love how God has you so well matched up in your diverse gifting and you allow each other to shine in using them. I rememver back when you started. Goodness the flood of memories, the laughing over some things. The pallets were gold for you back then, and helped a lot of folks too. Love ypu guys. ~Patty~
Yes!!! As we get older, as our kids get older, we have to pivot. Great video. Our channel is documenting what that "getting older" looks like. Almost done homeschooling our kiddos. Soon it will be just us. Thanks for talking about this.
I love your laughter and smiles. That alone is the cure to all. God is all about simplicity and patience, and faith. Nothing comes easy but it does become easy when we live in our faith and we listen to the silent whisper within and allow it to guide us. Love you bunches!
This was an absolute wonderful video. A good reminder for those of us that garden etc. to take stock of what we are doing and not take on too much. And to be open to changing things to suit our limitations. Thanks for the reminders and pep talk! 👍🏻😊❤️
16:00 “Just because it’s cute doesn’t mean it will stay alive. You have to keep it alive.” 😂 so true and also Jen you had me dead laughing!! Yes! Please keep the animals alive!
The only way to receive abundance is to give it to God. Release the time schedule worry and the almighty dollar and give it to God. Everything will come naturally without worrying about stress, time, and fear. Let go of that and you will be abundant and have longer days without much effort.
I don't believe in our governmental schooling system and even online home schooling. We need to somehow become free of the opposite information. We need to be teaching our children through our own practice of natural survival and our faith. Neither governmental systems include any of that, rather than the opposite to distract us from our inner guidance that has always been available, and we have never been alone. We need to go back to listening within. We don't need to go back into the dark ages. We have knowledge within without limitation. We could be further advanced in free energy and so much more if we stopped worshiping another God, which is outside of ourselves, telling us how to live.
Just recently started watching your videos and find them very informative and quick and easy to understand and not to lengthy. Thank you for sharing your experience. Also on a side note... really like Jen's tea mug. LOL 😊
