Adele... you've left us speechless!! Come hang and bring your tissues! Love youuuu Chapters 0:00 hello! 1:56 watch 9:10 thoughts (so many) Adele - To Be Loved • Adele - To Be Loved
I hear you when you say, "If you don't write music, don't do music," but there are countless exceptions to that rule. Whitney Houston is probably #1 on that list. She is arguably the greatest female vocalist of all time and didn't write her songs. Being able to take a song someone else wrote and not only sing it, but make you FEEL IT is a whole other kind of talent and she had it in spades! Kelly Clarkson writes about 60% of her songs but she FEELS every single one of them and makes the audience FEEL every word. Some singer-songwriters are better writers than vocalists or performers. You don't need a voice like Adele or Whitney to move people and make them FEEL what you're singing. There are plenty of singer-songwriters with average vocal talent who are brilliant and can still make you feel like your heart has been ripped out of your chest, but there are just as many who don't have that gift. Those folks are better off writing songs for other artists to sing. Writing and singing your own songs at the level of success of someone like Adele is a specific talent & gift, but so is the ability to take someone else's song and sing it as if you wrote it. There have always been amazing artists with the ability to take songs written by others and sing them better than anyone else ever could because they have a gift that allows them to connect to the lyrics and the purpose of the song so deeply and genuinely that you'd never guess that they didn't write it or live it themselves.
i think the singer writing the song is too important, and i also prefer listening to songs that that are not many songwriters. But if we look at I Look To You (the song) and when you discover that Whitney Houston didn't wrote the song at all is kinda crazy, because it seems like the song was made by her.
