Competitive longbow shooters are extremely uncommon, especially among females.

A slight movement can turn your yellow into black from that distance.

It's simply a name of a category or a style of shooting in World archery. It is a wooden bow, with a D profile when stringed, but may be deflex reflex when unstrung. The bows are shot from the shelf. String may not touch a limb on any other place than string nocks, when strung. Only wooden arrows are allowed, fletched with feathers. No sights or marks on the riser are allowed. Mediterranean grip or under grip are allowed, but on the latter, finger must touch the arrow. You are right that technically this are flatbows, but it is called longbow class. Longbows go in primitive bow class, if I remember correctly, but I'm not sure as some regulations changes happened recently.

They're shooting 20 yards and the arrow leaves the bow so quickly it would just be an on-screen blur for a split second. Filming the archers up close gives a far better look at their technique which is what determines the impact point of the arrow. A better analogy for what you're proposing would be if only the batter and the catcher were in picture, with no clue as to how the ball ended up with them.

Yeah this is kind of sad. I've been shooting traditional for 4 months and I could have beat both of them.

@@MrFreeGman no, you couldn't. it's easy to say that on a chair, in front of a keyboard...now, try to do it at an event like that, with all the pressure a gold medal match gives you, in front of that crowd.

Not always I have both a longbow with a shelf and ones without. Personally I prefer to shoot historical off the hand.

Hi Lia S. It has largely to do with the lack of optical and mechanical aids in this style of shooting . There are no clickers or draw stops to ensure a consistent length of arrow is drawn every time, nor are there any fine tunable sights to help line up the shots. The archer has to largely rely on trained instinct instead. Holding too long without a draw check will result in arrow creep and the tendency to flinch (target panic is more easily developed in this style). To compensate the archer has to develop a rapid shot cycle. Most primitive hunters shot very fast (although the bows they used, not being made with modern laminates of fibreglass or carbon, could break if held at the draw for too long). In addition heavy hunting bows and the war bows of old could just not be physically held at fully draw for any length of time. All those medieval war films showing mass ranks of archers drawing and holding the draw until being ordered to shoot are just nonsense. In actual fact holding onto the draw for any length of time is a very modern thing facilitated by gadgets, modern materials (making the bows more efficient for less draw weight) and in the case of compounds, weight let off.

Try it its not as easy as you think ,if it were everyone in archery would be a world class archer.

Your local archery range and tournament is a good start. Your state will also have indoor state championship and find a regional national indoor championship near you.

@@timsterrett2417 I've been shooting longbow for over 50 years. At 18 meter,(less than 60 feet) they should at least stay inside the blue or better. I can.

She is not string walking. She is shooting three fingers under, which is perfectly legal in the longbow division as long as the index finger is no further from the nock of the arrow than 2 mm (1/12" or something like that). It does give a smaller gap between the tip of the arrow and the target, but at 20 yards you're still a fair bit away from being able to aim point-on. I suppose you could theoretically get there with a really weak bow and a really long and heavy arrow, but that would introduce a bunch of other disadvantages.

I've shot competition long bow for decades three under is just as or.more.common that spit. I shoot three under with a tap myself.
