For such a standard aria from the soprano repertoire, it's surprising that it took well into the electrical era for there to be a hallmarked recording of it. Agostinelli's recording, though unpublished, pre-figured Margherita Grandi's well known 1948 version by nearly 40 years.

This channel is primarily about vocal emission-aural examples of basically correct singing, correct impostazione-chiaroscuro, vowel clarity, firm and centered pitch, correct vibrato action, absence of throatiness or thickness, sounds free from constriction and from the acoustic noise that accompanies it-with occasional video examples that demonstrate what the body, face, mouth, jaw, and tongue look like when used with correct impostazione-the vocal emission of the one and only Italian school.

I can't believe this recording was unpublished...Maybe because Don Carlo wasn't a popular opera at that time? Anyway, this is simply one of the best recordings of this difficult aria. Agostinelli knows how to use the different registers to make a proper effect, achieving a high level of interpretation. Not to mention the beauty and the radiance of her tone. This relatively less known soprano's rendering is a singing lesson for anyone wants to sing this aria, which is, in my opinion, the most heart-wrenching in Verdi's repertoire.

This fabuolous recording would have taken both sides of a 12 inch 78 rpm disc. Beautifully joined.

This is a voice of rare quality with a clarity of sound second to none. The voice peals out effortlessly, without seam from top to bottom. It soars above the orchestra, fulminating gloriously in all ranges. Agostinelli's technique is exemplary in all parameters. There are many recordings of this aria on a high level of interpretation; none have provided me with the thrill I experienced while listening to this phenomenal recording.

Incisione del 1910...comunque la si pensi è una voce di bellissimo timbro, ottima tecnica e per l'epoca di una modernità di canto rara. Le arcate di suono sono una delizia, e la dizione scanditissima... la ricchezza di armonici è incredibile e l'espressività un unicum con il canto...cosa sarebbe stata la sua voce con le moderne tecniche di incisione.

Amazing singer! Thank you very much for sharing this rare recording. I have never heard of Agostinelli. Her voice is beautiful and vibrant, her technique absolutely amazing!! Who today could possibly sing this difficult aria with such extraordinary ease like Agostinelli?? No one! Or perhaps only Krassimira Stoyanova.

This excellent singer had a distinguished career in the Americas including a spell at the Met. Giannina Russ recorded this around around 1912 on a Fono.

Agostinelli was one of the great sopranos only known to record collectors. It wasn't easy to obtain either her discs or cylinders. I have a number of her cylinders.

Love the octave higher ending. People would shoot you for that today, but that´s what real interpretative art is that has been lost. Brava.

We've been taught to believe Callas is über alles but it's just good-old marketing. There are plenty of singers at least as good as Callas.

Замечательная запись. Особенно подкупает та элегантная лёгкость, с какой Аделина справляется с труднейшей арией. Особенностью этого голоса мне показалась его некоторая травестийность, некоторая звонкая молодая puerilitas, заставляющая вспомнить женские роли шекспировского "Глобуса" - как будто озорной Оскар из соседней оперы Верди, переодевшись королевой Испании, решил продемонстрировать, как легко он с этой непростой ролью справится. Эта мальчишеская звонкость составляет неповторимое очарование этого замечательного голоса, но вместо с тем не всегда оптимально сочетается с женским образом, по-мальчишески слегка компрометируя его женственность. Возможно, это имеет место и в этой арии, при всех ослепительных достоинствах исполнения.
